OAK acquires RB Goodson from CAR-- Fri Mar 30 8:20 pm -- Former Aggie to back up McFadden
Carolina Panthers running back Mike Goodson said he has been traded to the Oakland Raiders on Friday. Goodson was placed on injured reserve in November after suffering a hamstring injury.
He had 103 carries in 2010, with 452 yards and three touchdowns. He also served a good option as a receiver, catching 40 passes for 310 yards in 2010. The Raiders will likely use Goodson as a backup to starter Darren McFadden. McFadden's former running mate, Michael Bush, recently signed a long-term deal with the Chicago Bears.(NFL.com)
FF Today's Take:Given McFadden's injury woes and Oakland's tremendous success running the football this past season, Goodson will rank among the most important handcuffs in 2012 if he earns the number two spot on the Raiders' running back depth chart.
RB Marion Barber retires-- Fri Mar 23 6:20 pm -- Following a seven year career
The addition of Michael Bush to the Chicago Bears' backfield seemed to spell the end for Marion Barber. But maybe Barber knew the end was coming long before any personnel decisions were made.
Barber, 28, has decided to retire, the Bears announced Friday. He was due a base salary of $1.9 million for 2012 and had a cap figure of $2.25 million. His decision saves the Bears $2 million in cap space. The reason behind Barber's decision is unknown, although he dealt with a nagging calf injury all of last season. He finished the year with 422 yards on 114 carries with six touchdowns.(Chicago Tribune)
FF Today's Take:The bruising back played a physical style of game that resulted in a lot of successful goal line carries but also a lot of wear and tear on his body, cutting his career to just seven seasons.
Bears sign RB Michael Bush-- Thu Mar 22 11:55 am -- Four-year contract, $7 million guaranteed
Free-agent running back Michael Bush agreed to a four-year contract with the Chicago Bears which could pay him $14 million, the Chicago Tribune reported Thursday. Matt Forte is Chicago's franchise player and wants a new contract. He has not signed his franchise tender and Bush provides insurance in case he Forte decides to wait for a new contract.(Bay Area News Group)
FF Today's Take:Bush provides insurance in case Forte's contract talks hit a snag and also gives the Bears solid depth in the backfield. Forte will remain the focus of the Bears offense but he could lose short-yardage and goaline work to the bigger Bush.
