Lions draft WR recovering from ACL tear-- Fri Apr 27 8:50 pm -- Detroit selects Ryan Broles in round two
The Detroit Lions' decision to use a second-round draft pick on Oklahoma State receiver Ryan Broyles is one we probably shouldn't examine too thoroughly until we've had a chance to hear from all concerned parties. The fact is that Broyles tore an anterior cruciate ligament five months ago and hasn't fully recovered. He didn't work out at the NFL scouting combine but did get on the field for his Pro Day. The Lions are relatively deep at receiver with Calvin Johnson, Nate Burleson and Titus Young.(ESPN)
FF Today's Take:Broyles is one of those high-risk high-reward picks. Prior to the injury, he demonstrated shiftiness and a top gear that few others can match.
Mike Wallace to hold out for new deal-- Wed Apr 11 11:30 pm -- Steelers star WR won't sign franchise tender
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace was slapped with the franchise tag last month, so he’s not going anywhere — but according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, he has no interest in signing his tender. If Wallace signed, he’d be agreeing to remain a Steeler for one year and $2.7 million; understandably, he’d much rather work out a long-term deal to earn far, far more than that. The Detroit Lions recently signed Calvin Johnson for seven years and $132 million, and the Arizona Cardinals inked Larry Fitzgerald last year for eight years and $120 million. Wallace thinks he’s in that elite class, and he might be right.(SI)
FF Today's Take:Wallace might be the fastest player in the NFL. With his world class speed, he is a big play threat every time he is on the field. He's earned a big paycheck so expect the Steelers to reward their prized receiver.
Megatron gets 7-year extension-- Wed Mar 14 10:50 am -- News conference coming at 1 p.m. ET
The Detroit Lions signed star receiver Calvin Johnson agreed to a seven-year extension Wednesday, the team announced on its Twitter account.
The extension puts Johnson under contract with the Lions until the 2019 season. The team is holding a news conference at 1 p.m. ET.(ESPN)
FF Today's Take:The deal is reportedly a $132 million extension that includes $60 million guaranteed. Calvin Johnson remains one of fantasy's most dominant wide receivers.
