2011 Outlook
Depth Chart
When the Bills pulled the chute on the Trent Edwards era after two games last season, they handed the reins over to the unheralded Fitzpatrick. Prior to 2010, Fitzpatrick had little success filling in for an injured Carson Palmer in Cincinnati in 2008 and for Edwards in 2009. However, the Bills’ moribund passing attack came alive with Fitzpatrick under center for 13 games (he sat out Week 17), and he finished the year with career highs in passing yards (3,000) and touchdowns (23). He is also an underrated threat rushing the ball, finishing the year with 269 yards on the ground (he had 304 in 2008). He also finished as the 17th-rated quarterback but was ninth overall in quarterbacks with ten or more starts. Bills management showed their faith in him by not using a pick in the draft to acquire a young talent at the position, which means he will be the team’s starter in 2011, barring injury. Consider Fitzpatrick an upper-tier backup in 2011 and a player you can feel reasonably comfortable using as your starter if you want to employ the strategy of using a late pick (or few auction dollars) on the position.

Fitzpatrick given vote of confidence     -- Mon Dec 12 10:00 pm --

HC Gailey stands behind QB as long-term starter
There's no question, Buffalo Bills coach Chan Gailey would prefer Ryan Fitzpatrick to be playing with more consistency after the quarterback endured one of the worst outings his career. Gailey came to Fitzpatrick's defense on Monday after the quarterback continued to take the brunt of the criticism a day after he went 13 of 34 for 176 yards passing and two interceptions in a 37-10 loss at San Diego. "None, zero: I have no questions about him," Gailey said. "We've all seen him do it. We know he can do it...If that was my biggest problem, I wouldn't have any problems." (AP)

FF Today's Take: Fitzpatrick has earned a reputation in fantasy for being a fast starter and slow finisher, due mostly to a lack of arm strength that gets exposed in the cold, windy Buffalo winters. One of his biggest problems this season, however, have been a lack of healthy receivers and the loss of Fred Jackson. Fitzpatrick will remain a QB2 for fantasy purposes over the next two weeks against Miami and Denver.
Injury Bills WRs overcoming injuries     -- Fri Nov 18 8:00 pm --

Johnson questionable, Nelson probable for Sunday
Buffalo Bills receiver Steve Johnson should be ready to play in Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins, but is still being listed as questionable because of a shoulder injury. Receiver David Nelson (ankle) is probable, but left tackle Demetrius Bell (shoulder) and defensive end/linebacker Spencer Johnson (calf) are both questionable. (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: The Dolphins have played well of late while the Bills continue to struggle. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has thrown five interceptions over the past two games, and will need Johnson and Nelson at their best to right the ship this weekend.
Injury Bills' WR Johnson misses practice     -- Wed Nov 16 6:00 pm --

With ailing left shoulder injury
Stevie Johnson is concerned about his injured left shoulder, leaving the Buffalo Bills' top receiver in jeopardy of missing this weekend's game in Miami. Bills coach Chan Gailey said Johnson will be held out of practice Wednesday, and hopes the receiver can work on a limited basis over the next two days. Johnson told reporters before practice that he's getting daily treatment, but added he's not 100 percent confident his shoulder will be strong enough to play. (NFL.com)

FF Today's Take: Johnson, who has dealt with a groin injury, the flu and now a shoulder tweak this season, has just one touchdown since week four, while fellow wideout David Nelson has three. With Nelson's size, he is a favorite target of quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick's when the Bills get in the red zone.
