2011 Outlook
Depth Chart
After a wasted 2010 season in which a holdout, suspension, and injuries caused him to miss 11 games, Jackson is back in San Diego as the Chargers’ franchise player. That means he should be good for 16 games, barring injury, and there’s a decent chance that Jackson emerges as an upper-tier WR1 in 2011. When both players are healthy, the Chargers offense runs through Jackson and tight end Antonio Gates, who are quarterback Philip Rivers’ preferred options in the passing game. Jackson has been a touchdown machine for the Chargers with 19 scores in his last 36 games, and the team is expecting him to become a more consistent threat in 2011. The fantasy knock on Jackson has been that he doesn’t catch a lot of balls, reaching a career-high of 68 in 2009. Look for that to change this year as he attempts to earn himself the lucrative long-term contract he’s been after for the past few seasons. Add it all up and a breakout season might just be in the cards, with Jackson establishing himself as one of the top receivers in the league.

Jackson and team wants WR back in San Diego
Chargers WR Vincent Jackson wants to remain in San Diego, and it’s sounding more and more like the Chargers want to keep the free agent to be. “The way he performed this year speaks to how valuable he is to our team,” Chargers coach Norv Turner told me. “From a coaching standpoint, I’d love to have him here. When you look at his production, his average per catch separates him from a lot of guys. “ (National Football Post)

FF Today's Take: In fantasy, Jackson was either awesome or awful for most of the season. However, his role figures to increase going forward if Antonio Gates' foot continues to hamper him, which is highly likely. GM A.J. Smith has declined to extend Jackson for a while now as the receiver continued to deal with off-field problems, but may be far enough removed from them now to give the team more peace of mind in handing him a long-term deal.
Colston, Nicks hitting free agency?     -- Sun Jan 15 8:25 pm --

Saints likely to franchise Brees
Drew Brees is a free agent, but we know he’s not going anywhere this offseason. So the Saints essentially have two options. They can strike a deal quickly with Brees or they can place the franchise tag on him to retain his rights while continuing to work on a long-term deal, like the Colts did with Peyton Manning last year. G Carl Nicks and WR Marques Colston are both headed for free agency. Florio has explained previously Colston won’t take a hometown discount. (Pro Football Talk)

FF Today's Take: If the Saints cannot lock up Colston and Nicks, it goes without saying that New Orleans' offense would take a steep hit at a time it needs to be putting all of its resources into the defense. Nicks would likely be the hottest free-agent commodity available on the offensive line while Colston could easily be the top receiver available if Vincent Jackson, Dwayne Bowe and Wes Welker all get the franchise tag or re-sign with their teams.
Injury Vincent Jackson expected to play     -- Sat Dec 31 7:00 am --

Chargers wideout returns to practice Friday
Wide receiver Vincent Jackson returned to practice after missing two days with the groin injury that limited him in last Saturday's game. He is expected to play Sunday at Oakland. (San Diego Union-Tribune)

FF Today's Take: Playing gimpy last week Jackson turned in a two-catch, 41-yard performance. He's a dicey WR2 this week against the Raiders.
Injury Vincent Jackson to miss Week 17?     -- Thu Dec 29 6:55 pm --

Groin injury could keep Chargers WR out against Raiders

FF Today's Take: The Chargers are hopeful that Jackson plays this week but are realistically a little worried about his status. His situation will be updated Friday so be sure to check back if you are depending on Jackson this week.
Injury Vincent Jackson no sure bet to play     -- Fri Dec 23 3:25 pm --

Groin injury not responding well
Wide receiver Vincent Jackson's groin has not responded as well as the Chargers hoped or believed it would, and there is mounting concern he will miss Saturday's game against the Lions. (San Diego Union Tribune)

FF Today's Take: Jackson is listed as Questionable and will be a gametime decision. Vincent Brown would start if Jackson doesn't play. Check the Inactives before San Diego's late game on Saturday to make sure Jackson is a go.
Injury Vincent Jackson misses practice again     -- Thu Dec 22 6:30 pm --

Groin injury threatens Chargers WRs availability this week

FF Today's Take: Missing two straight days of practice is certainly concerning. But specualtion is that Jackson is just being cautious ahead of the Chargers Week 16 showdown with the Lions. Stay tuned for any developments!
