2014 Outlook
Depth Chart
It's strange to look at quarterback rankings from 2013 and see a double-digit number next to Aaron Rodgers's name. He still finished tied for fourth in FPts/G. A broken collarbone sunk his stats and nearly the Packers' season before he came back in heroic fashion to save their season in week 17 against Chicago. Rodgers has remained at the top of nearly every important fantasy quarterback stat for the past six years and he's always in the running for first quarterback off the board. Will Rodgers pick right up where he left off and continue to make Green Bay's offense a fantasy factory?

Let's not be silly, if Rodgers is your starting quarterback, your roster will be in great hands. Coaches and players lie, but numbers usually don't. If Rodgers had played the full season, he would have finished 2013 with roughly 4,500 yards, 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Those numbers would have put him in the low end of the top 10 and approached his career starter lows.

There are a few factors to consider before making that all-important quarterback selection, though. First, the emergence of Eddie Lacy. The rookie runner carried the ball 285 times and 11 scores last year and proved to be the reliable and efficient running back the Packers have been looking for since Ryan Grant in 2009. Grant's numbers from that year are eerily similar to those of Lacy last year: 1,100 yards with 11 touchdowns. Rodgers in 2009: 4,400-30-7, very close to his 16-game projection for 2013. Another factor to consider is the change in player personnel. In consecutive offseasons Rodgers has lost familiar veteran pass catchers in Greg Jennings, James Jones and Jermichael Finley. Their talent will be easy to replace, as Rodgers makes the players around him better. Working with younger receivers in Randall Cobb and Jarrett Boykin and a potential rookie tight end could affect his consistency, especially early in the year. The bottom line here is that Rodgers is one of the league's best, but baring major injury to the running back corps, he won't be asked to carry this team like in 2011 and 2012. Expect numbers to be closer to that of mere mortals, but still good enough to make him a top QB1 selection.

Comment: With a healthy running game, a return to the fantasy top five is in the cards for Rodgers.

Injury Aaron Rodgers, Lacy limited on Thursday
McCarthy being cautious with RB
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Jan 15, 12:15 pm

Green Bay Packers
(On Aaron Rodgers) Participated in the second half of practice. Passed under pressure and did two team periods. Just getting ready to play. (On Eddie Lacy) His knee is sore. I was just being conservative, so I pulled him in the middle of practice. He'll be ready to go. Coach was just nervous. (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)

FFToday's Take: Rodgers was officially listed as limited on Thursday and while he's in no danger of missing this week's game, his mobility is going to be limited. Lacy's knee isn't a great concern at the moment as it sounds like coach was being overly cautious by holding out the Packers starting running back on Thursday.

Injury Rodgers has "slight tear" in calf muscle
Packers QB expects to play Sunday in divisional round
By: Doug Orth | Thu Jan 8, 5:20 pm

Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers' calf muscle has a slight tear in it in addition to being significantly strained, according to league sources. The injury is not expected to prevent Rodgers from playing in Sunday's divisional round playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys, but it could affect how mobile and effective he is. "There's no question he will play, but there's also no question he will not be 100 percent," said one doctor familiar with the injury. "The question is whether he'll be 95 percent or 50 percent." (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: This should not come as much of a surprise to anyone that has been tracking this story for the last couple of weeks. Rodgers was limited to team drills on Thursday and Green Bay will not practice again until Saturday, making him a very questionable play in playoff leagues or daily-fantasy formats. Rodgers is more than capable of beating a lot of teams solely as a pocket quarterback, but his injury is one that could give out on him at any time, just like it did in Week 17. Matt Flynn is the next man up.

Injury Rodgers misses practice Wednesday, calf strain
Packers QB may practice Thursday
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Jan 7, 5:49 pm

Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Aaron Rodgers might practice on Thursday, but either way, his quarterback will play on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. The better question might be how Rodgers' strained left calf might limit him in Sunday's NFC divisional playoff game at Lambeau Field. "I'm going on Sunday," Rodgers said Wednesday. "It's just a matter of how." (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Hmmm, this doesn't inspire a lot confidence for those wanting to gamble on Rodgers in playoff or daily league formats. Rodgers was limited during the Lions victory after re-injuring his calf back in Week 17. He's going to suit up on Sunday and start unless there is a setback this week but the risk of re-injury will be significant.
