After finishing as a top-five fantasy quarterback in 2009, Romo gave his owners high expectations entering 2010 that were dashed with a broken clavicle that ended his season in Week 6 and also put the team’s playoffs hopes to bed. That’s the bad news. The good news is that Romo was having a solid campaign before he was injured, averaging 21.3 points per game, a very slight decline from the 22.3 points per game he averaged from 2007 through 2009. Although there are questions along the offensive line, the Cowboys figure to return all of their key passing weapons from a year ago and are expecting major improvement from 2009 first-round pick Dez Bryant. Add it all up and Romo is a solid bet to finish with 4,200 yards and close to 30 touchdowns. That should be enough to finish just outside of the big six at quarterback.
Nicks, Manningham, Romo to play on SNF-- Sun Jan 1 7:35 pm -- Injured players set to square off for division title
Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham and DE Osi Umenyiora all will dress for and play in tonight's game. Umenyiora missed the last four games with an ankle injury. Manningham missed last week's game and several during the second half with a knee injury. And Nicks missed some practices last week with a hamstring injury.
Likewise, Tony Romo, who bruised his throwing hand last weekend in the loss to Philadelphia, will start the game. NT Jay Ratliff and LBs DeMarcus Ware and Sean Lee also are active in spite of injuries that limited them during the week.
(ESPN)
FF Today's Take:For fantasy purposes, the only notable inactive is TE Jake Ballard. With Cowboys-Giants a win-or-go-home game, expect all the key players to play the full game. Nicks is a no-brainer fantasy option while Manningham is a dicey bet at best. In what figures to be a high-scoring affair, Romo should be fine as he was not wearing a glove during warmups.
Romo to play at "full strength"-- Fri Dec 30 8:00 pm -- According to owner Jerry Jones
While Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett has used the term "hopeful" when describing Tony Romo's availability for Sunday's game against the New York Giants, owner and general manager Jerry Jones is more emphatic. Romo was limited in practice Friday for the third straight day, but he is officially listed as probable on the injury report. "He's going to be playing at full strength," Jones said on KRLD-FM Friday morning. As he did on Thursday, Romo had his hand in a wrap for Friday's practice. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take:While it's unlikely that Romo will be at full health like Jones is claiming, it's at least encouraging that he has been practicing. Feel free to roll him this week, as he's one of the only top tier quarterbacks actually playing in a meaningful game.
Tony Romo limited in practice-- Thu Dec 29 5:58 pm -- Cowboys QB practices with wrap on hand
Tony Romo (hand) was limited for the second straight day Thursday.
(ESPN Dallas)
FF Today's Take:Romo wore a wrap on his hand in Thursday's practice after not using one on Wednesday. Romo, however, reiterated that he would play Sunday against the New York Giants, with the winner claiming the NFC East title and a playoff spot. Romo will start Sunday but with his injury, he is certainly a risk to Fantasy owners. Expect OK numbers from Romo this week.
Tony Romo to practice-- Wed Dec 28 12:16 pm -- Bruised throwing hand
IRVING, Texas -- Tony Romo will practice Wednesday despite a bruised right hand, according to a source, further signaling that the Dallas Cowboys quarterback will be ready to play in Sunday's game against the New York Giants.(ESPNDallas.com)
FF Today's Take:Romo has played through injuries throughout most of the season and he is already practicing this week. With a playoff berth on the line, Dallas will lean on Romo even if he is less than 100 percent. Fantasy owners should continue to monitor how his hand feels following practice over the next few days.
Romo expected to go in Week 17-- Sun Dec 25 11:50 pm -- Bruised hand
Tony Romo banged his throwing hand against the helmet of Eagles defensive end Jason Babin during Saturday’s ultimately meaningless loss to Philadelphia. The hand swelled up to almost cartoonish proportions, and concerns swirled regarding his availability for next Sunday night’s win-and-in, lose-and-hit-the-road-Jack regular-season finale against the Giants.
All indications continue to be that Romo suffered no structural damage, that the swelling is expected to go down, and that Romo will be able to play.
(Pro Football Talk)
FF Today's Take:The Cowboys' quarterback was diagnosed with a bruised hand that looked much worse than it ended up being. For those of you in leagues that use Week 17 as part of your championship, Romo has a strong matchup vs. the Giants and should be one of the top plays at his position. Stephen McGee, who replaced the starter against Philly, would get the start again in the event Romo has a setback later this week.
Asante Samuel out for Eagles-- Fri Dec 23 8:15 pm -- CB plagued by hamstring injury
The Philadelphia Eagles will have to find a way to cover the Cowboys' trio of explosive wideouts without one of their top cornerbacks as Asante Samuel will miss Saturday's game with an injured hamstring. Samuel hurt his hamstring during the Eagles win over the New York Jets last Sunday, and Eagles coach Andy Reid said Samuel re-aggravated the injury during practice Tuesday. Samuel then sat out practice Wednesday and Thursday, sealing his fate for Saturday's game.(NFL.com)
FF Today's Take:The Eagles loss of Samuel in their secondary provides a boost to the stocks of opposing quarterback Tony Romo and wide receivers Dez Bryant, Miles Austin and Laurent Robinson this week.
Miles Austin to return this week?-- Tue Dec 6 6:18 pm -- Cowboys WR on track to start in Week 14
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he expects Miles Austin to return to practice Wednesday, adding that the receiver should be "full go" this week as the team prepares to face the New York Giants on Sunday.(Dallas Morning News)
FF Today's Take:Finally some good news on Austin. Barring setback, he should suit up and provide yet another solid target for Tony Romo this week against the Giants. Austin should be considered a WR2 for Sunday night's contest.
