Bucs likely parting ways with Winslow-- Mon May 21 6:00 pm -- Could be nearing deal with ex-Colt Dallas Clark
Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Kellen Winslow, for whom the Bucs yielded a second- and fifth-round pick in 2009, has been told by HC Greg Schiano that the Bucs are attempting to trade him.
Winslow, appearing on SiriusXM NFL Radio this morning, said Schiano told him the Bucs are moving in a different direction. A factor in the decision, Winslow said, was his decision to do his offseason work elsewhere, something he has often done during his tenure with the team.
Scout.com is now reporting the Bucs signed ex-Colt Dallas Clark.(Tampa Bay Times)
FF Today's Take:Schiano is a no-nonsense coach and has little tolerance for players unwilling to play by his rules, so Winslow will most likely be released in the coming days. Clark figures to sign around the veteran's minimum and probably wouldn't be much more than a 15-20 play/game TE in the Bucs' new run-heavy offense. Winslow could resurface in Carolina with Rob Chudzinski - his former OC in Cleveland - if he is released, but Clark's days as a fantasy contributor are likely over.
Dallas Clark visits with Patriots-- Fri May 18 7:20 pm -- Former Pro Bowl TE continues to test free agent waters
Free-agent tight end Dallas Clark visited the New England Patriots on Tuesday, according to a league source. Clark, 32, has played nine seasons in the NFL, all with the Indianapolis Colts. He was released by the Colts on March 7. Originally the 24th pick in the 2003 NFL draft, Clark has 427 catches for 4,887 yards and 46 touchdowns in his career, including a career-best 100 receptions for 1,106 yards in 2009.(ESPN)
FF Today's Take:Due to a hard-nosed style of play and the slew of injuries that mounted as a result, Clark has been reduced to a fraction of his old self. His days as a reliable fantasy contributor appear to be a distant memory.
Avery hoping to resurrect career in Indy-- Sat Apr 7 8:20 pm -- Speedster hoping to put injury woes behind him
The book on new Colts WR Donnie Avery is he’s fast. When the Colts lost Pierre Garcon in free agency to Washington, they needed a burner who could go deep and stretch the field. A former second-round pick, he showed promise with 100 catches in two seasons with St. Louis. Then he blew out his right knee in a preseason game before the 2010 season. His right ACL was surgically repaired, but the Rams evidently didn’t see the same promise in a guy who once ran a 4.27 40-yard dash at his pre-draft pro day. Avery eventually landed in Tennessee but he couldn’t supplant the young receivers the Titans were playing.(Indianapolis Star)
FF Today's Take:With wide receiver Pierre Garcon and tight ends Dallas Clark and Jacob Tamme leaving through free agency, there will be a lot more football to go around in Indianapolis next season. Avery could be a nice low-risk, medium-reward option in the late rounds of 2012 fantasy drafts.
TE Tamme to be reunited with Manning-- Fri Mar 23 6:30 pm -- Broncos ink Jacob Tamme, Joel Dreessen to deals
The Denver Broncos keep adding offensive personnel for Peyton Manning as they agreed to terms Friday with tight ends Jacob Tamme and Joel Dreessen. Tamme will be reuniting with Manning in Denver after spending four seasons with the Colts, who drafted him in 2008 out of Kentucky. Tamme’s best season was 2010, when he started eight games and set career highs with 67 catches for 631 yards with four touchdowns. Last season, Dreessen caught 28 passes for 353 yards and six scores for the Texans.(Yahoo Sports)
FF Today's Take:The Broncos' offense is really starting to take shape. In Indianapolis, Manning always liked to throw the ball to his tight ends, whether it was Marcus Pollard, Dallas Clark or Jacob Tamme. Tamme's stock just rose dramatically, and Dreessen could become one of the Broncos' primary red zone targets.
Colts cut Addai, Clark-- Fri Mar 9 10:00 pm -- The rebuilding has begun
FF Today's Take:The Colts are in total rebuilding mode and save close to $15 million in 2012 salary with the release of LB Gary Brackett, RB Joseph Addai, TE Dallas Clark and S Melvin Bullitt.
Indy listening to offers for Freeney-- Fri Mar 9 2:00 pm -- Colts could have new look on offense and defense in 2012
The Indianapolis Colts are fielding telephone calls from teams interested in trading for perennial Pro Bowl defensive end Dwight Freeney, according to league sources. The Colts do not necessarily want to part ways with Freeney, but they need the salary-cap space and Freeney has a $19 million cap number this season and is unwilling to restructure his contract, according to sources. Freeney might not be the only Colt for sale. Tight end Dallas Clark ($8 million) and linebacker Gary Brackett ($7.4 million) also have high cap numbers.(ESPN)
FF Today's Take:Recently hired general manager Ryan Grigson has waited little time putting his own personal stamp on the Indianapolis Colts. It will be interesting to see if Robert Mathis can be as productive as a pass rusher without an equally threatening sack specialist drawing blocking support from the right side of the defensive line.
