Cardinals cut QB Brian Hoyer     -- Mon May 13 5:45 pm --

Stanton and Lindley will backup Carson Palmer
The Arizona Cardinals on Monday cut quarterback Brian Hoyer, who had been tendered at a second-round level, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: With the acquisition of Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton, Hoyer became expendable. Ryan Lindley is currently the teams third string QB. Hoyer played in two games last season, throwing for 330 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions.
Carson Palmer traded to Arizona     -- Tue Apr 2 2:29 pm --

Signs a new two-year deal
Quarterback Carson Palmer was traded from the Oakland Raiders to the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday in a deal that includes the swap of 2013 draft picks and a conditional pick in 2014. Palmer, 33, also agreed to a new contract with the Cardinals. The team did not disclose terms of the quarterback's deal, but league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that the restructured contract is for two years and worth $16 million. It also gives the Cardinals an out after one year if the situation does not work out. Palmer was due to make $13 million this season. (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: The Cardinals sent a sixth-round pick (176th overall) to the Raiders in exchange for Oakland's seventh-round pick (219th overall). The Raiders will receive for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2014 draft if Palmer starts 13 games for Arizona in 2013. This isn't a long-term solution at the position but Palmer is QB2 with upside given the open style of offense Bruce Arians like to run.
Matt Flynn traded to Oakland     -- Mon Apr 1 11:10 am --

For 2 undisclosed draft picks
The Oakland Raiders have an agreement in principle to acquire quarterback Matt Flynn from the Seattle Seahawks for two draft picks -- one in the 2014 draft and a conditional pick in 2015, according to league sources. (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: Word on the street is the Raiders are also trying to trade Carson Palmer to the Cardinals which would pave the way for Flynn to start for Oakland in 2013. Flynn's is scheduled to make $5.25 million in base salary this season.
Speculation on Flynn trade continues     -- Fri Mar 29 10:00 pm --

Oakland likely landing spot for Seahawks QB
The Seahawks are nearing an agreement to trade their backup quarterback (Matt Flynn) to the Raiders. There was no announcement nor confirmation from either team, and the deal may not be finalized until next week. (Seattle Times)

FF Today's Take: The Seahawks have been shopping Flynn's services and various media reports have speculated that the QB will end up in Oakland very soon. The Raiders are expected to part ways with Carson Palmer unless he accepts a pay cut. Palmer is set to make $13 million this season.
Raiders likely to deal number 3 pick     -- Fri Mar 1 10:00 pm --

Oakland looking at every angle heading into the draft
This time of year, of course Geno Smith interests the Raiders. They're also contemplating pass-rushing outside linebacker Jarvis Jones. And run-stuffing defensive tackles Star Lotulelei and Sharrif Floyd. And burner receiver Marquise Goodwin. And offensive tackles Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher. Linebacker Manti Te'o? Sure, why not? Put it this way - the Raiders are doing their due diligence and looking at every conceivable possibility. But as one NFL source told me at the Senior Bowl, the Raiders' most likely and logical move is to trade down from the No. 3 spot. ... [Showing] "interest" in Smith could be akin to general manager Reggie McKenzie building up interest, and thus, trade value, in said No. 3 pick. (CSN Bay Area)

FF Today's Take: The Raiders have a number of pressing needs. Though Carson Palmer put together a solid year, he's a good-but-not-great 33-year-old quarterback on a team that is still at least a couple years away from being a contender. There have been rumors abound that Oakland will give Terrelle Pryor a shot next season, but the Raiders may opt to go a different route and take a chance on Geno Smith in this year's draft.
