2017 Outlook
Depth Chart
On the plus side, McCown averaged just over one point per game less than Carson Wentz in five games last season, including an impressive 341-yard, two-touchdown game Week 8 against the Jets. McCown is too injury prone, the team will likely give young signal callers Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg chances to play, marginalizing McCown's value even further. A journeyman veteran quarterback tasked with leading a team that is in full-blown lose for a top draft pick mode; Josh McCown should be rostered in only two-QB and large formats, as he does not have the skill position players or offensive scheme to put up top 12 points in standard leagues.

Jeremey Kerley returning to New York
Signs 1-year deal after being released by 49ers
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Sep 6, 1:00 am

New York Jets
Two months after criticizing the team's former offensive coordinator, wide receiver Jeremy Kerley is reuniting with the New York Jets. Kerley, 28, released Saturday by the San Francisco 49ers, signed a one-year contract to play for the team that drafted him in 2011. (ESPN.com)

FFToday's Take: None of the Jets' receivers offer significant upside heading into 2017, however, the recently signed Jeremy Kerley should have a pulse in deeper PPR formats. He should lay claim to the slot role in New York and be a frequent target for QB Josh McCown. Conversely, Robby Anderson and Jermaine Kearse are even riskier fantasy plays week-to-week as they split fewer targets.

Jets will name starting QB next week
HC Todd Bowles knows who it is, but won't say yet
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Aug 22, 10:40 am

New York Jets
Coach Todd Bowles announced he would make his decision next Monday, after watching film of the team's third preseason game against the Giants. It's currently between Christian Hackenberg, who flopped in his surprise start on Saturday, and veteran Josh McCown. "I have my own thoughts, but it’s a coach’s decision out of all of us," Bowles said Monday, but keeping those thoughts to himself. "We’ll discuss it after the game and we’ll come up with the best starter." (New York Post)

FFToday's Take: Considering veteran Josh McCown has received a majority of the first-team reps in practice - and has led the scoring-challenged offense to its only touchdown in two preseason games - it would be a stunner if the 38-year-old isn’t named the starter over youngsters Hackenberg and Bryce Petty.

Christian Hackenberg getting reps with 1st unit
QB competition brewing as Jets look to settle on best option
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Aug 8, 10:35 am

New York Jets
Though veteran Josh McCown still spent most of Monday’s practice with the first team, 22-year-old Christian Hackenberg received his most reps with the top unit in training camp. Hackenberg, who took 21 overall reps, had six opportunities with the first team, and overall, went 10-of-21 with one touchdown. (New York Post)

FFToday's Take: This means there could be a real QB competition brewing in New Jersey. Mike Maccagnan said yesterday on Michael Kay's radio show that the team is not tanking, but the jury's still out on how effective either the journeyman McCown or the very raw Hackenberg will be without the requisite offensive weapons. WR Quincy Enunwa was just lost for the season with bulging disk in his neck. None of the Jets QBs are worth more than desperation wire fodder.
