Well, I told you last year “those of you out there looking for a return to glory for LT in New York, you can think again.” And this year, I’m telling those of you out there expecting a repeat of last year’s return to glory, you can think again. LT was great last season, having a renaissance year with 914 rushing yards, a healthy 4.2 yards per carry, 52 receptions for 355 yards, and six total touchdowns. That placed him as the 18th-ranked fantasy back and provided excellent value to his owners, most of whom grabbed him with a low-round draft pick. That’s the good news. The bad news is that it was a tale of two seasons for LT as he basically hit a brick wall late in the year. He scored just one touchdown in his final nine games and averaged a measly 6.7 points per game in his last five games. From Week 6 on, he averaged only 3.3 yards per carry. At 31, LT is headed for backup status; but in a Jets offense that loves to run, he ranks as an upper-tier backup in 12- and 14-team leagues as well as a nice option in flex leagues.
LT contemplating retirement-- Fri Jan 6 11:00 pm -- Future hall of famer set to enter free agency
Don't ask LaDainian Tomlinson what's next. The 32-year-old back is set to become a free agent after two seasons with the Jets, where he played an integral role in the team's 2010 playoff run, only to watch the effort implode around him this year en route to a disappointing 8-8 season. Is it a wrap for the almost-certain Hall of Fame back? "I mean, man, that's a good question, honestly. I don't know as of now. I honestly don't," Tomlinson told San Diego's XEPRS-AM this week, via SportsRadioInterviews.com. "I am contemplating retirement. (NFL.com)
FF Today's Take:Tomlinson's best days are long behind him but given his competitive nature, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the veteran running back return for another season.
LaDainian Tomlinson practices in full-- Thu Dec 29 8:55 pm -- Jets RB to play in what could be his last game Sunday
LaDainian Tomlinson (quad) was upgraded to full participation in Jets practice Thursday.
FF Today's Take:LT will suit up on Sunday for sure in what could reasonably be his last NFL game. Bravo LT - it`s been fun to watch you over the years!
S-Jax nearing milestone-- Wed Dec 21 5:35 pm -- Rams RB needs 34 yards to join elite company
St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson is on the verge of a milestone. With just 34 more yards rushing he will become the seventh player in NFL history to gain 1,000 yards in seven or more consecutive seasons. Only Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, Curtis Martin, Thurman Thomas, Eric Dickerson and LaDainian Tomlinson have done it.(ESPN)
FF Today's Take:Jackson isn't often mentioned in the same class of stud fantasy running backs like Arian Foster, Adrian Peterson and now LeSean McCoy, but it's hard not to like his consistency.
Greene has torn tendon in finger-- Mon Dec 19 6:40 pm -- Expected to play vs. Giants
FF Today's Take:The Eagles' early advantage in Week 15 forced Greene to play more of a bit role in the Jets' blowout loss. If Greene were to suffer a setback, LaDainian Tomlinson would likely assume the feature back role since Joe McKnight was diagnosed with a separated right shoulder. However, owners should expect 20 or more touches for Greene vs. the Giants while LT grabs 8-10.
LaDainian Tomlinson practices in full-- Thu Dec 8 6:10 pm -- Jets RB on track to start this week
FF Today's Take:LT, barring any setback appears ready to assume his regular role in the Jets offense this week against the Chiefs. However, Shonn Greene is still in line for the lions share of the carries.
Will Jets lean on Shonn Greene?-- Mon Dec 5 1:48 am -- McKnight and Tomlinson nicked up
LANDOVER, Md. — Jets running back and kick returner Joe McKnight said he suffered a hyperextended right elbow late in the third quarter of the Jets’ 34-19 win against the Redskins Sunday. LaDainian Tomlinson, who missed the past two games with a left MCL injury, re-aggravated it in the first quarter but was able to return to the game after halftime. He did not have any tests at the stadium.(Star-Ledger)
FF Today's Take:Shonn Greene received a season-high 22 carries on Sunday and may see more games with 20 or more carries down the stretch now that both backup running backs are dealing with injuries.
LaDainian Tomlinson practices Thursday-- Thu Dec 1 6:15 pm -- Jets RB looks good to go for Sunday
FF Today's Take:LT practiced Wednesday and Thursday and appears ready to resume action this week. He will be confined to mostly third down duties as per usual and is not usable this week in Fantasy.
Jets list Tomlinson as questionable-- Fri Nov 25 4:40 pm -- As RB continues to recover from knee injury
New York Jets running back LaDainian Tomlinson and wide receiver Jeremy Kerley are questionable for the team's game against the Buffalo Bills because of injuries. Neither player practiced Friday as they recover from sore left knees that have sidelined them since they were injured against New England nearly two weeks ago. Coach Rex Ryan says Tomlinson is probably closer to doubtful than being able to play, while Kerley will likely be a game-time decision.
(SI)
FF Today's Take:With Tomlinson out, Joe McKnight will serve as Shonn Greene's backup this Sunday. He performed well, particularly as a receiver out of the backfield last week when Greene left the game with a rib injury. We're not ready to say that there's a running back controversy in New York but if Greene stumbles a few more times down the stretch, look for McKnight to take on an expanded role.
Shonn Greene returns to practice-- Tue Nov 22 6:35 pm -- Jets RB on track to start this week
FF Today's Take:Greene looks like a go this weekend which is good news for the Jets who appear as though they will be without LaDainian Tomlinson again this week. Joe McKnight will likely take over LT's snaps with Greene playing his normal role. Greene is an intriguing RB2 this week against Buffalo.
LT ruled out for Thursday night game-- Wed Nov 16 6:30 pm -- With a sprained MCL
The New York Jets will be without running back LaDainian Tomlinson for Thursday night's game in Denver against the Broncos, the team announced Wednesday afternoon. Tomlinson currently is bothered by a sprained MCL in his left knee. He suffered the injury on his final carry during the Jets' 37-16 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday night, and did not practice this week. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take:With Tomlinson out, starting running back Shonn Greene could see a few more carries than usual. Greene has a favorable match-up Thursday facing the Broncos who gave up 134 rushing yards to the Kansas City Chiefs last weekend.
