2024 Outlook
Depth Chart
Last season's number-one overall pick struggled mightily during his rookie season. But can you really blame him? Just about every positional unit within the Panthers' offense was awful. Bryce Young was set up for failure last season.

The offensive line was among the worst in the league. Young was sacked 62 times, second-most in the league. Outside of Adam Thielen, Carolina's WR core did nothing to ease Young into his NFL career. Panthers' wide receivers ranked 31st in terms of separation created on their routes. Among 153 qualified pass catchers, D.J. Chark ranked 143rd in ESPN's Open Score Metric while Jonathan Mingo ranked 152nd. These guys did anything but help their rookie QB.

Carolina took steps to improve the cast around their QB who they hope to be the face of their franchise. They made significant additions to the offensive line, traded for Diontae Johnson, and added Xavier Legette in Round 1 of the NFL draft. They also added "QB whisperer" Dave Canales as their new head coach.

All of these changes are promising in regards to Young taking a step forward in year 2. However, the fantasy community doesn't want much to do with him and he is being drafted as the QB25.

Given his essentially free price, I don't mind taking a shot on Young as your QB2 in hopes he takes a leap under Canales with new weapons. However, my expectations aren't high and middling QB2 production would be a win.

Injury Diontae Johnson, Adam Thielen ruled out for Week 8
Panthers thin at WR
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 25, 12:34 pm

Carolina Panthers
The #Panthers ruled out WRs Diontae Johnson (rib) and WR Adam Thielen (hamstring), while QB Andy Dalton (right thumb) is doubtful. So it'll be Bryce Young throwing to backup receivers on Sunday in Denver. (Tom Pelissero on X)

FFToday's Take: Welcome back to the starting lineup Bryce Young! Without Johnson and Thielen, the Panthers will roll out a receiving corps of Xavier Legette, Jalen Coker and Jonathan Mingo. All of these guys can be avoided in a bad matchup against the Broncos defense.

Panthers bench Bryce Young
Andy Dalton set to start for foreseeable future
By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 16, 6:30 pm

Carolina Panthers
Sources: The #Panthers are benching former No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young and starting veteran Andy Dalton beginning this week. Coach Dave Canales has repeatedly said “Bryce is our quarterback.” But with the season quickly slipping away, Canales decided to make a change. (NFL Network - Tom Pelissero)

FFToday's Take: While there have been more issues than bad quarterback play, the Panthers have been a rough watch through two weeks. Canales seems to have little confidence in opening up the playbook for Young and Young appears to have lost confidence in himself. Dalton may not be a miracle worker, but there is a decent chance he will breathe some life into the offense and Diontae Johnson in particular. Expect Dalton to lean heavily on Johnson and Adam Thielen immediately, starting in Week 3 against the Raiders.
