2018 Outlook
Depth Chart
The Jets used the third overall pick of the 2018 NFL draft to select USC quarterback Sam Darnold, a highly touted young quarterback who presumably will be the face of the franchise for the next decade. At 6'4, 225 pounds, Darnold has the prototypical size and arm strength to be a star quarterback in the NFL. As a redshirt freshman in 2016, Darnold completed 67% of his passes, with 3086 passing yards and 31 touchdowns in 13 games for the Trojans. As a sophomore last season, Darnold completed only 63% of his throws and threw four more interceptions, but he logged nearly 1000 more passing yards and increased his yards per attempt.

The Jets will likely begin the season with McCown under center as Darnold continues to get acclimated to the NFL. There is no doubt that the job will eventually be his at some point in the near future, but fantasy owners in single quarterback leagues should wait to pull the trigger until Darnold proves to be a viable fantasy asset.

Injury Sam Darnold likely to miss Week 10
Sprained foot
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Nov 7, 1:00 pm

New York Jets
New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold is not expected to play Sunday after spraining his right foot last Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, according to a league source. The injury is considered week-to-week, the source said. After facing the Buffalo Bills, the Jets have their bye week, followed by a home game against the New England Patriots. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Darnold was seen in a walking boot meaning Josh McCown will start against the Bills this week. The Jets have one 300-yard passing game through nine weeks and while the move to McCown might be a slight upgrade, he should only be considered in two-QB leagues.

Injury Robby Anderson doubtful, Jets thin at WR
Kearse and Roberts could start
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 26, 1:30 pm

New York Jets
Robby Anderson, Trumaine Johnson and Spencer Long all listed as doubtful for Sunday. WRs could be Jermaine Kearse, Andre Roberts, Rishard Matthews, Charone Peake and Deontay Burnett. Oh, boy. (Rich Cimini on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: It appears Anderson will miss this game with a sprained ankle leaving the Jets extremely thin at the wide receiver position. Kearse, Roberts and newly signed Matthews could be the top three wideouts for rookie Sam Darnold against the Bears. Kearse would be the most viable fantasy asset but doesn't come with a lot of conviction.

Sam Darnold solid in Jets debut
Rookie throws for 198-2-1 in rout of Lions
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Sep 11, 8:16 am

New York Jets
Jets rookie QB Sam Darnold completed 16 of 21 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns, but the most telling number was this: He had only four incomplete passes after the pick-six on his first throw. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Darnold stayed in constant contact with backup and mentor Josh McCown during the game, with both players soaking up the success after the opening snafu. Darnold is worth adding in 12-team leagues as a fantasy backup, and is a must-own in dynasty leagues.

Sam Darnold gets the Week 1 starting nod
Rookie beat out Josh McCown
By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 3, 6:10 pm

New York Jets
Jets are officially naming QB Sam Darnold as the starter, per sources.

FFToday's Take: The Jets believe they have their franchise quarterback and aren't going to wait to see if he is ready for the challenge. The No. 3 overall pick completed 64.4 percent of his passes in the preseason, but his 5.4 yards per attempt is not the stuff of legend. Darnold is obviously a strong dynasty hold, but he should only be considered as a bye-week fill-in as a rookie.
