|Sammy Watkins headed to Kansas City|
3 years, $30M guaranteed
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Mar 13, 8:30 am
|Final terms of the #Chiefs expected deal for WR Sammy Watkins: 3 years, $48M with $30M fully guaranteed at signing, sources say. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Watkins and Allen Robinson, two of the biggest free agent options, are reportedly off the market. New GM Brett Veach stated earlier this off-season he wanted to get more speed at the wideout position. Staying true to his word, Watkins delivers just that and should fit in nicely with strong-armed Patrick Mahomes. Watkins had dealt with a foot injury for a good portion of his career, but just like Robinson, he's just 24 years old and still has productive years left provided he can stay healthy.
|Alex Smith headed to Washington|
Redskins agree on 4-year extension with Smith
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Jan 30, 9:00 pm
|The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to trade quarterback Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins, league sources confirmed to ESPN's Field Yates.
Smith and the Redskins reached an agreement on a four-year contract extension, sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter. The deal cannot be completed until the new league year begins March 14. It is expected to be for a second-round pick and possibly more, according to a source. (ESPN)|
FFToday's Take: Our first big transaction of the 2018 season has been leaked. The deal can't be made official until the league year begins on March 14th. The Redskins have been employing Kirk Cousins on the franchise tag the last two years. Smith had his best season as a pro last year, throwing for 4042 yards, 26 TDs and 5 INTs. Patrick Mahomes will take over the starting quarterback job in Kansas City.
|Patrick Mahomes to start for KC|
Chiefs will go with rookie QB in Week 17
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Dec 27, 12:45 pm
|Patrick Mahomes will indeed start at quarterback for the Chiefs on Sunday against the Denver Broncos. (ESPN)|
FFToday's Take: With the Chiefs locked into the No.4 seed in the AFC, many of the starters including Alex Smith will get some rest in Week 17. Head coach Andy Reid didn't specifically name players but it's likely Kareem Hunt, Travis Kelce and other frontline players won't see their normal workload. The matchup isn't ideal but Mahomes is an intriguing option on Draftkings ($4700) and Fanduel ($6000).
