2011 Outlook
Depth Chart
Unable to come to terms with the Seahawks on a new contract, Hasselbeck found a willing suitor in Tennessee. With the Titans, Hasselbeck will keep the starting quarterback job warm until rookie first-round pick Jake Locker is ready to take over. Hasselbeck is coming off a trying season in Seattle, where he put up the worst production of his career (when healthy for the majority of the season), throwing for 2,998 yards with 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. In 2011, look for him to retain the starter’s job as long as he is healthy and productive and the Titans remain in playoff contention. With his 34 touchdown passes and 44 interceptions over the last three years, and his having missed time due to injury in each of those seasons, and with the Titans not expected to challenge for a playoff spot, his time as Tennessee’s starting quarterback figures to be a short one. Furthermore, the team’s crop of receivers and tight ends hardly inspires confidence. If he can somehow overcome all of that, he may be suitable as your QB2. Otherwise, hands off.
Comment:Hasselbeck could be a sneaky fantasy play as long as the Titans remain competitive this season. Once the year is lost, rookie Jake Locker will get his shot.
FF Today's Take:Hasselbeck will start but don't be surprised to see Jake Locker in the game at some point. With the Titans out of a playoff race, Hasselbeck will certainly be on a short leash.
Matt Hasselbeck practices in full-- Tue Dec 20 7:30 pm -- Titans veteran QB expects to start Sunday
FF Today's Take:Hasselbeck appears to be holding off Jake Locker for the time being. Coach Mike Munchak has said all along that if healthy, Hasselbeck is his starter. Bet on Hasselbeck being on a short leash against the Colts however.
Munchak won't name starting QB -- Mon Dec 19 12:10 pm -- Hasselbeck bothered by calf injury
It's only a matter of time until the Jake Locker era begins in Tennessee, but for now the Titans are giving their fans only glimpses of their future franchise quarterback. Starter Matt Hasselbeck, who played through a calf injury Sunday, was pulled in favor of the rookie halfway through the fourth quarter of the Titans' loss to the Indianapolis Colts after struggling to generate much offense against the fifth-worst defense in the NFL. Locker promptly drove the Titans for a touchdown on his first series, causing some to wonder why coach Mike Muchack didn't go to the bullpen earlier.(NFL.com)
FF Today's Take:Jake Locker has looked like the better quarterback in recent weeks but starter Matt Hasselbeck has been dealing with injuries. The Titans face the Jaguars in Week 16 so whoever gets the nod should be in line for a decent fantasy outing.
Jake Locker practices in full-- Thu Dec 15 8:20 pm -- Titans rookie hopes to play this week
FF Today's Take:Locker is practicing as if he will play but it all depends on Matt Hasselbeck. If Hasselbeck practices Friday, he will start and Locker will be on the bench. Monitor this situation closely if you intend on using either this week.
Matt Hasselbeck limited in practice-- Thu Dec 15 8:05 pm -- Titans QB status up in the air for Sunday
FF Today's Take:Although Hasselbeck said that he felt "pretty good", he is not sure if he'll play on Sunday after being limited in practice Thursday. This situation is far from determined. Keep tabs if you are reliant on Hasselbeck or Jake locker this week.
Hasselbeck strains calf-- Sun Dec 11 6:00 pm -- MRI on Monday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Matt Hasselbeck managed to return for one play after rookie Jake Locker had the wind knocked out of him. The Titans veteran quarterback completed a pass, then hopped gingerly back to the sideline.(titansonline.com)
FF Today's Take:Depending on the results of the MRI, rookie quarterback Jake Locker may be charged with the task of helping the Titans get into the playoffs. If so, Locker will present fantasy owners with a worthy option in week 15 against the Colts.
Matt Hasselbeck back at practice-- Thu Nov 24 7:35 pm -- Titans QB expects to start Sunday
FF Today's Take:Hasselbeck looked like he was in danger of missing this week but Thursday's news is positive for the veteran QB. Expect typically average numbers for Hasselbeck on Sunday against the Buccaneers.
Matt Hasselbeck expected to start Sunday-- Tue Nov 22 6:20 pm -- Titans QB to rest early this week and maybe start versus Bucs
Matt Hasselbeck will take it easy the next few days with his injured throwing arm. By the end of the week, however, the Titans believe their veteran quarterback will be back on the field practicing. Barring complications, they expect he will start Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers at LP Field.
(Nashville Tennessean)
FF Today's Take:This situation requires serious monitoring. The Titans don't expect much from Hasselbeck until the end of the week but any hint of a setback will thrust Jake Locker into the starting role. Check the late week practice report but be prepared to make alternate plans if Hasselbeck can't go.
Hasselbeck sprains right elbow-- Mon Nov 21 12:05 am -- Week 12 status in doubt
Tennessee quarterback Matt Hasselbeck left Sunday's game against the Falcons with a sprained right elbow.
Rookie Jake Locker took over for Hasselbeck late in the third quarter. There was no immediate update from the Titans on the severity of Hasselbeck's injury.
Hasselbeck completed 13 of 25 passes for 124 yards with an interception before leaving with the Falcons leading the Titans, 23-3.(AP)
FF Today's Take:Hasselbeck's right arm was bent awkwardly on a completion to Nate Washington on the first drive of the second half and was seen on the sidelines with a large icepack on the arm. Locker threw for two scores in a failed comeback attempt and would be the starter in Week 12 vs. the Bucs if Hasselbeck cannot make it back in time. HC Mike Munchak made it very clear in a post-game presser there was no quarterback controversy.
