| James Conner unlikely to play Week 16|
High ankle sprain
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Dec 19, 4:00 pm
|James Conner made his first Pro Bowl but don't look for him to play Sunday for the Steelers in New Orleans. That high ankle sprain is going to take more time to heal. (Ed Bouchette on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Conner missed practice on Wednesday and it's looking unlikely that he plays this week against the Saints. That means Jaylen Samuels will once again fill in at running back and be viable RB2 play in Week 16.
| James Conner unlikely to play|
Should be good to go Week 16
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Dec 15, 2:35 pm
|On our NFL GameDay Kickoff show: #Steelers RB James Conner, listed as questionable with an ankle injury, is unlikely to play vs. the #Patriots, source said. He should be good to go Week 16, though. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Conner got in a limited practice Friday but is headed for the inactive list on Sunday against the Patriots. That will give Jaylen Samuels more run as the Steelers lead running back who will likely be limited in rushing attempts but should see 4-7 targets in the passing game. Samuels is a viable RB2 in PPR leagues.

RB remained out of practice Thursday with ankle injury
By: Doug Orth | Thu Dec 13, 7:25 pm
|With RB James Conner still not practicing, Steelers OC Randy Fichtner said he does not believe Conner needs to practice to play Sunday vs the Patriots: "He's played a LOT." (Aditi Kinkhabwala on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Expect this to go right down to 90 minutes prior to the 4:25 ET kickoff on Sunday. Jaylen Samuels filled in nicely for fantasy owners in PPR leagues last week, but it is clear the Steelers don't trust him to handle a very heavy load in the running game. It's entirely possible Pittsburgh keeps him active and has him share the load with Samuels in what is a highly impactful game to its playoff chances. For now, consider Conner a very risky RB2 option.

Coach admits Conner has a sprained ankle
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Dec 4, 11:20 am
|Mike Tomlin: James Conner injury more significant than thought. He's out this week with an ankle injury. With James Conner out, rookie Jaylen Samuels should be starting RB this week. Mike Tomlin, running back by committee "is our intention" as we sit there. Tomlin on James Conner: "I don't know if you'd describe it as a high ankle sprain, it's an ankle sprain" (Ed Bouchette on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Tomlin originally said that Conner had a contusion and the injury wasn't serious. If you watched the tape, it was pretty clear that Conner suffered a sprained ankle. The fact that he's already been ruled out means its somewhat of a significant injury. It appears the Steelers may use a RBBC with Samuels and Stevan Ridley likely to get the bulk of the work against the Raiders.
| James Conner injury not considered major|
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Dec 3, 10:00 am
|On #Steelers RB James Conner: My understanding is the injury is not to his ankle and not considered major at all. Coach Mike Tomlin called it a contusion and it seems like he'll be OK, based on early impressions. How much it swells will be telling. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: If you watch the video it seems to indicate a sprained ankle so it's safe to wonder if Tomlin is downplaying the injury. We should get more information over the next couple days and Conner will undoubtedly be at the very least limited in practice this week. Jaylen Samuels and Stevan Ridley are next up on the depth chart. The Steelers have a juicy matchup against the Raiders.
| James Conner expected to practice Wednesday|
Steelers bell cow RB shaking off head injury from Week 10
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Nov 13, 12:45 pm
|James Conner is expected to practice Wednesday per Aditi Kinkhabwala (@AKinkhabwala) on Twitter: "James Conner still in concussion protocol, but Mike Tomlin said he’ll be given an opportunity to practice tomorrow and that that should “lay those discussions to bed.” #Steelers (Translation: he needs to do some physical work to get out of the protocol, Wed is 1st day he can)" (Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Conner looks like he'll most likely suit up for Week 11, but Stevan Ridley and Jaylen Samuels are possible additions if it looks like he takes a step back in the protocol.

Rookie RB lauded by Mike Tomlin
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Nov 13, 12:41 pm
|Joe Rutter (@tribjoerutter) on Mike Tomlin's thoughts regarding Jaylen Samuels on Twitter: Tomlin on Samuels: "I like his arrow, it's continually pointing up. ... He's met that point of the challenge." (Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: We mentioned Samuels as a possible deep-league waiver wire addition, since he's getting some passing down work and Le'Veon Bell looks like he's holding out for the entirety of 2018. Now we have confirmation that the coaches feel like Samuels could be getting more snaps as the team moves on with its current options (including lead back James Conner, dealing with a concussion, and Stevan Ridley.
|Bell not expected to report by Tuesday's deadline|
Will miss out on $14.5 million if he sits out the entire season
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Nov 11, 7:30 am
|Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell is unlikely to report to the team by Tuesday's deadline, which would make him ineligible to play the rest of this season, league sources told ESPN.
Even as the Steelers brace to lose their marquee running back for the entire season, Bell's camp continues to maintain its cone of silence and repeatedly has declined to address with reporters his plans for the coming week. (ESPN)|
FFToday's Take: If Bell doesn't report by Tuesday at 4PM Eastern he will miss out on a total of $14.5 million this season. James Conner appears to be locked into the starting running back role in Pittsburgh for the foreseeable future. The Steelers could use the transition tag on him next year or let him hit free agency.
|No change on Le'Veon Bell front|
Must report by Nov. 13 in order to play in 2018
By: Doug Orth | Mon Nov 5, 4:55 pm
|Steelers have not had contact with Le'Veon Bell this week, so barring new development in next few days, team doesn't expect Bell to report for Thursday night game against Carolina. All eyes on the Nov. 13 deadline.
(ESPN - Jeremy Fowler)|
FFToday's Take: Owners who have held Bell this long and are still in the playoff race might as well keep holding, although it's looking less and less likely he will contribute before December - if even then. James Conner has earned the right to split carries at the very least even if Bell chooses to report, and one could argue there is no reason to bump him as the starter even if Bell does come back.
