2018 Outlook
Depth Chart
After an up and down rookie season, Carson Wentz exploded onto the fantasy football landscape in 2017 with 33 touchdowns and only seven interceptions before suffering a season-ending ACL tear in Week 14 against the Los Angeles Rams. With at least two touchdowns in 12 of his 14 games, Wentz posted the fifth highest TD% (7.5) by a quarterback in their second season in NFL history, behind Hall of Fame players Dan Marino, Kurt Warner, and Johnny Unitas. Ironically, the player with the highest TD% in their sophomore season is Nick Foles, the quarterback who took over for Wentz last season and led the Eagles to their first Super Bowl.

When you consider the fact that Sid Luckman's 7.9% TD rate is the highest in NFL history and future first ballot hall of famer Tom Brady owns a career TD rate of 5.5%, a negative regression for Wentz is likely in 2018. It should also be noted that although Wentz posted impressive touchdown numbers in 2017, his completion percentage dipped down to just over 60% from 62% as a rookie, suggesting that his success throwing touchdowns at a high rate is an outlier.

Questions surrounding his ability to return to form from his severe knee injury also hurts the draft value of Wentz heading into 2018. As a quarterback who excels at moving both inside and outside the pocket, the inability to evade would-be tacklers and extending plays could hurt Wentz's overall value in 2018. However, Wentz is surrounded by a collection of talented wide receivers and running backs, and Doug Pederson's stellar offensive scheme should help Wentz finish as a top 12 QB this season.

Injury Wentz cleared for 11-on-11 work
No plan to play in pre-season games
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Aug 18, 1:00 pm

Philadelphia Eagles
Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz will resume 11-on-11 drills once the team returns to practice on Sunday, according to an ESPN report. As of now there is no plan for Wentz, who is still recovering from a torn ACL he suffered last December, to play in the preseason. The final step towards Wentz playing in Week 1 is to be cleared for contact. (NJ.com)

FFToday's Take: This is the next step as Wentz eyes the season opener on September 6th. He's by no means a lock to begin the season as the Eagles starting quarterback. Even if he does, he'll undoubtedly won't feel 100% comfortable. Wentz is being over-drafted at his current ADP of 7.06 (QB6) in redraft leagues.

Injury Carson Wentz (knee) still questionable for Week 1
Eagles QB says ‘It’s going to be close’
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Aug 14, 9:51 am

Philadelphia Eagles
In the most telling part of Carson Wentz’s interview on WIP this morning before the final training camp practice of the summer, Wentz was asked by Angelo Cataldi how important it would be for him to start the season: "I obviously would love to be out there. That’s been my goal all offseason ever since the injury. It’s going to be close. It’s going to be close. I’m still eyeing that date. At the end of the day, it’s not just my decision. There’s coaches and doctors that really have the final say. I really like where I’m at and time will tell here." (NBC Sports)

FFToday's Take: If you're planning on drafting Wentz as your starting fantasy QB, you probably need to make other plans for Week 1.

Browns trade WR Corey Coleman to Bills
Making room for Dez Bryant?
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Aug 5, 8:16 pm

Cleveland Browns
Cleveland is trading former first-round pick WR Corey Coleman to the Buffalo Bills for a draft pick, per source. Coleman was the player the Browns selected after trading the No. 2 overall pick to Philadelphia so the Eagles could draft Carson Wentz. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The Browns are expected to get Josh Gordon back in camp sometime soon but you have to wonder if this move doesn't clear a path for the signing of Dez Bryant. The Bills are desperate for offensive playmakers so depending on the compensation returned, this seems like a good gamble on a former first round 2016 pick.

Injury Wentz could start camp on active PUP list
Could come off list at any time
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Jul 25, 6:00 am

Philadelphia Eagles
The #Eagles report and have their physicals today, including rehabbing QB Carson Wentz. The most likely, cautious scenario is that Wentz lands on the PUP list, sources say, though he could come off at any time. It would not be an indication that he’ll start the season on PUP. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: If Wentz beings camp on the PUP list he won't be practicing with the team. Since tearing his ACL in Week 13 last season, Wentz' rehab hasn't had any setbacks but it won't be surprising if the team takes a cautious approach and/or he simply isn't ready to practice in full. If you've assumed Wentz will be ready Week 1, you need to re-adjust your thinking.
