2018 Outlook
Depth Chart
For the 2017 season, Winston finished as a mid-range QB2, but on a per game basis, he just was one spot outside of the QB1 range at QB13. Winston has improved his scoring consistency each year of his three-year career. He finished as a top 12 quarterback 31.25% of the time in 2015, 37.5% in 2016, and 46% of the time in 2017. If he can continue to improve his consistency, then he'll likely be considered a surefire QB1 entering 2019.

The overwhelming reason why Winston is a late-round to undrafted QB option is because he's suspended for the first three games of the 2018 season. And that's a good reason to leave Winston for the waiver wire during your draft, but fantasy owners should be quick to consider Winston following Week 3 as a solid streaming option. Paired with a streaming option in the first few weeks, drafters could find themselves with a top 12 QB at an inexpensive price. At first glance, the Buccaneers schedule appears difficult for Winston upon his return, but apparent strength of schedule is difficult to accurately project. He's likely a spot play, but if Winston continues his improvement, he could have plenty of value in 2018.

Jameis Winston regains starting job
Replaces Ryan Fitzpatrick
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 1, 5:40 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter just said that yes, Jameis Winston will be the starting quarterback against the Atlanta Falcons. (ESPN - Jenna Laine)

FFToday's Take: The Bucs will have the bye week to get reacclimated to Winston, who will see his first action in Week 6 against an injury-ravaged Falcons defense. Winston did his best to mimic a usual workweek during his three-game absence, although only time will tell if he's ready to go from mistake-prone gunslinger to a solid NFL starter. He has the supporting cast to be a fantasy QB1, but owners would be wise to treat him as nothing more than a matchup-based starter going forward.

Injury O.J. Howard out 2-4 weeks
Sprained MCL
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Oct 1, 11:45 am

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end O.J. Howard sprained his MCL and is expected to miss two to four weeks, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Howard injured his left knee late in the first half of Sunday's 48-10 loss to the Bears. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Howard has been a low-end TE1 option with 222 yards and 1 TD through four games. His absence will allow Jameis Winston favorite, Cameron Brate, to see increased opportunities. The Bucs have a bye in Week 5.

Ryan Fitzpatrick expected to start Week 4
Winston returns from suspension
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Sep 29, 11:22 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to start Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback against the Chicago Bears on Sunday despite quarterback Jameis Winston returning from his three-game suspension, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Saturday. The Buccaneers will reassess their quarterback situation during next week's bye, before determining whether Fitzpatrick or Winston will start Oct. 14 at Atlanta, the sources said. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Fitzpatrick has thrown for over 400 yards in each of Tampa's first three games. However, it seems inevitable that he'll come crashing down to earth and Winston will be the starter at some point. For the time being, Fitzpatrick gets a difficult matchup on the road against Kahlil Mack and the Bears.

Jameis Winston returns to practice
Ryan Fitzgerald likely to keep starting job despite MNF loss
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Sep 25, 9:55 am

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
It seems unlikely, especially given his second-half rally, that Koetter would give Ryan Fitzpatrick the hook after leading the Bucs to a 2-1 start and nearly rallying to beat the Steelers. "Of course, we love Jameis,'' Koetter said. "Jameis is a member of our team and anxious to get him back. He'll be great in our locker room. And I know Jameis, whatever role he ends up in, I know Jameis will embrace that role and give it everything he's got.'' (Tampa Bay Times)

FFToday's Take: Jameis Winston has been a headache for fantasy owners in the past, and this offense seems a lot more potent with Fitzpatrick at the helm. Expect Winston to back up the veteran until something earth-shattering happens.

Ryan Fitzpatrick expected to start Week 1
Bucs QB worked with first team today
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Jul 26, 9:30 am

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Head Coach Dirk Koetter says Ryan Fitzpatrick is the planned starter to open the season, if nothing crazy happens. Fitzpatrick worked with the 1st-team today, Jameis Winston worked with all 3 groups. (Scott Smith on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: With Jameis Winston suspended for the first three games, the assumption was that Fitzpatrick would get the call to start the season, but there was some discussion floating around that perhaps Ryan Griffin could push Fitz for the starting job. For now, it's Fitzpatrick's job to lose. The Bucs face the Saints, Eagles and Steelers to start the season.
