2017 Outlook
Depth Chart
He wasn't spectacular in his first season as a starter, but Trevor Siemian was also rarely the reason that his team lost games. Current reports indicate that 2016 first round NFL Draft pick Paxton Lynch has shown some signs of improvement in OTA's and minicamp and certainly his upside is believed to be higher than that of Siemian, but it's Siemian who has been the more consistent of the two. With an 18-to-10 touchdown-to-interception ratio and 3,401 passing yards in 14 starts, Siemian produced enough numbers in 2016 that will likely make the Broncos signal caller at least to start the season. The presence of Lynch should be a concern for fantasy owners, but the generally mediocre fantasy production from Siemian should be the primary reason that he goes undrafted in most leagues. Not much has changed in the Denver offense that should lead fantasy owners to believe that there will be a substantial improvement in the Denver passing game this season.

News From The Past 90 Days
Trevor Siemian named the starting QB in Denver
Paxton Lynch to remain backup for second straight year
By: Doug Orth | Mon Aug 21, 9:30 pm

Denver Broncos
Trevor Siemian won the Denver Broncos' quarterback battle with his steady play. Broncos HC Vance Joseph named Siemian his starting quarterback at a news conference Monday, saying Siemian was the "clear-cut winner" in his duel with Paxton Lynch. (NFL.com - Kevin Patra)

FFToday's Take: Lynch was considered a project as a first-round pick in 2016 and he remains raw despite making strides this offseason. Siemian's "win" is good news for Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders, as the former seventh-round pick is a steady veteran who can move the offense and won't often put the Broncos' vaunted defense into too many unfavorable positions. Siemian is a middling QB2 for fantasy purposes.

Struggles continue for Paxton Lynch
rawness and inexperience shines against 49ers
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Aug 20, 7:30 am

Denver Broncos
With a start against the 49ers on Saturday, Paxton Lynch faced the biggest test of his young NFL career in trying to secure the Broncos’ starting quarterback job. His persistent struggles in reading and reacting to the defense were scattered throughout. His flash of potential was obvious. But so, too, were his rawness and inexperience. (Denver Post)

FFToday's Take: Trevor Siemian entered late in 2nd quarter and led the Broncos on a TD-drive. The Broncos have giving Lynch every opportunity to win the starting QB job but he's not taking advantage. The Broncos haven't put a timetable on naming a starting quarterback but unless Lynch does something overly impress in the next week and a half, the Job is going to be Siemian's.

Siemian getting comfortable in McCoy's offense
QBs likely to split first team reps during preseason
By: Jake Gordon | Tue Aug 8, 7:00 pm

Denver Broncos
Trevor Siemian has been here before, looking ahead to a preseason game in his college town of Chicago, awaiting his first live opportunity to audition for the Broncos’ starting job. He knows the routine, knows the inherent pressure and has shown a knack for managing both. But recently, something changed for him as he took more repetitions and saw more time in Mike McCoy‘s system. As the offense got more complex in practice, Siemian appeared to hit his stride. “I can’t tell exactly when, but probably a week or so I just kind of felt a little more comfortable, like things were clicking for me and I got a big-picture thought of how we’re trying to attack scheme and defenses,” Siemian said Tuesday. Thursday, in the Broncos’ preseason opener against the Bears, Siemian will start and play approximately a quarter and a half before handing the keys to Paxton Lynch. In the Broncos’ second preseason game against the 49ers in Santa Clara, Calif., Lynch will start and Siemian will likely take over in the second quarter. (DenverPost.com)

FFToday's Take: Quarterbacks Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch are battling for the starting job in Denver and how they play over the next two weeks will be a key factor in who wins the job. Neither guy is being drafted as a QB1 despite the presence of playmakers Demaryius Thomas and newcomer Jamaal Charles lining up in this offense. The winner of this battle has enough upside to be a borderline fantasy starter and makes for a quality QB2 to target on draft day.
