| Eifert to have back surgery, out for the year|
Third surgical procedure on his back in his career
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Oct 11, 7:00 pm
|Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert has opted to have season-ending surgery on his back, a league source said.
Eifert made the decision after consulting with Dr. Robert Watkins on Wednesday in Los Angeles. He is scheduled to undergo micro disk surgery Thursday and is expected to be out four to six months, the source said. (ESPN)|
FFToday's Take: Eifert's injury-prone label won't go away. He will have played in only 10 games during the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Eifert is in the final year of his contract with the Bengals, meaning it's likely the Bengals will move on from the talented tight end. Tyler Kroft will continue fill the starters role.

No back surgery needed at this time

FFToday's Take: Another year, another season in which Eifert doesn't come close to playing 16 games. Owners in deeper leagues should probably hold him, but all others may want to cut ties. His absence means more snaps for C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Kroft, but neither one of those figure to be a fantasy factor either. As a result, look for the offense to lean toward A.J. Green even more as the focal point in the passing game.

FFToday's Take: Same story, different year for Eifert. He's struggled to stay healthy during his five-year career, playing in only 10 games the last two seasons. The Bengals will roll with C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Kroft at tight end this week but neither are fantasy options.

Knee, back injuries

FFToday's Take: Eifert injured his knee and back in Week 2 and is getting off to a bad start in Week 3. Tyler Kroft would likely start Sunday if Eifert sits. Eifert owners should be looking for other options.
