|Patriots release WR Malcolm Mitchell|
Knee still an issue
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Aug 6, 1:33 pm
|Patriots have released WR Malcolm Mitchell. Really flashed as a rookie but has battled injury problems (Jason La Canfora on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Mitchell played 12 games in his rookie season but has battled knee issues ever since. The Patriots attempted to trade the third-year wide receiver but couldn't get a deal done. The wide receiver depth chart is still in flux with Chris Hogan, Julian Edelman, Kenny Britt, Eric Decker, Cordarrelle Patterson and Phillip Dorsett all vying for targets.
|Patriots sign Eric Decker|
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Aug 2, 11:25 am
|Patriots expected to sign former Titans’, Jets’ and Broncos’ WR Eric Decker to a one-year deal, per sources.
And it’s neither here nor there, but is there now a better looking QB-WR combo in the NFL than Tom Brady and Decker? (Adam Schefter on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Jordan Matthews suffered a hamstring injury in last Sunday's practice and the Patriots felt the need to bring in another wideout into a crowded group. Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, Phillip Dorsett, Cordarrelle Patterson, Eric Decker, Kenny Britt and Malcolm Mitchell fill up the top of the depth chart. He's a late-round dart throw in redraft leagues.
| Patriots release Jordan Matthews |
Suffered significant hamstring injury
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Aug 1, 1:00 pm
|According to a league source, the #Patriots have released WR Jordan Matthews. He had suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday’s practice. (Jim McBride on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Reports surfaced that Matthews had suffered a significant hamstring injury and would likely miss most of training camp. The Patriots ultimately decided to cut the wide receiver who was working in a rotation opposite Chris Hogan. With Matthews released and Julian Edelman scheduled to miss the first 4 games of the season, the door is open for Kenny Britt, Malcolm Mitchell and Phillip Dorsett to earn more opportunities.
