2018 Outlook
Depth Chart
One of the more polarizing players in fantasy last season, Jay Ajayi rushed for 408 yards and one rushing touchdown in seven games for the Eagles after joining the team midseason via trade with the Dolphins. Although limited to just 70 carries in a crowded backfield that included the now departed LeGarrette Blount, Ajayi did make the most of his time with the Eagles, posting an impressive 5.8 yard per carry average.

Now that Blount has moved on to the Lions and the Eagles have yet to add another bruising RB to the backfield, Ajayi looks poised to take over as the primary first and second down back for an Eagles team that finished third last season in total points scored.

The main knock against Ajayi and the reason why he is not considered a second or third round pick in most experts' eyes is the fact that head coach Doug Pederson prefers to use multiple RBs out of the backfield. Corey Clement looked impressive at times last season, and veteran Darren Sproles looks to return to the team as the primary receiving down option.

The lack of clear touches will make many owners shy away from Ajayi in drafts this summer. However, should he continue to fall in ADP, Ajayi could end up being a great value, especially in standard scoring formats.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Jay Ajayi out for the year, torn ACL
Placed in IR
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Oct 8, 5:00 pm

Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles placed lead running back Jay Ajayi on injured reserve Monday, a major blow to an offense that has struggled to score points over the first five games of the season. Ajayi tore his ACL Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: The Eagles are thin at running back with Ajayi (IR), Darren Sproles (hamstring) and Corey Clement (quad) all battling injuries. Wendall Smallwood and Josh Adams are the only true healthy running backs on the roster. Unless a free agent is signed, Smallwood should see a spike in usage moving forward.

Injury Sproles out, Ajayi good to go
Ajayi playing through fracture in back
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 28, 10:33 am

Philadelphia Eagles
Doug Pederson: Darren Sproles just isn’t ready yet. Jay Ajayi is good to go. The fracture in his back can be played through. Sounds bad but he’ll be OK. #Eagles (Jeff McLance on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The Eagles will be back to their usual three-man rotation of Ajayi, Corey Clement and Wendell Smallwood. It will be difficult to trust Ajayi given his injury, not to mention the Titans have yet to give up a touchdown to a running back.

Injury Ajayi, Sproles Out; Clement questionable
Clement new addition to injury report
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 21, 1:55 pm

Philadelphia Eagles
#Eagles Injury Report for the Colts game: OUT: RB Jay Ajayi (back), RB Darren Sproles (hamstring). QUESTIONABLE: RB Corey Clement (quadricep), LB Kamu Grugier-Hill (groin), WR Alshon Jeffery (shoulder), T Jason Peters (quadricep). RB Corey Clement (quad) is a new addition to the injury report. Must have injured himself during Friday’s practice. Left the locker room before media showed. #Eagles may have to make a roster move if Ajayi, Sproles and Clement are out. (Jeff McLance on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The Eagles are having issues at RB. Ajayi missed practice all week as did Darren Sproles but now Clement, who was inline for 15-18 touches this week, has popped up on the injury report with a quad issue. It appears Clement should be able to play this week but this new injury takes the shine off his fantasy upside.

Injury Tweet: Good chance Jay Ajayi (back) sits Week 3
Eagles RB still nursing injury after big hit in Week 2
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Sep 18, 2:53 pm

Philadelphia Eagles
Reuben Frank (@RoobNBCS) on Twitter: "Mike Groh indicated that there's a good chance Jay Ajayi won't be available Sunday." The Eagles RB sat out a decent chunk of last week's game after an early hit sidelined him with a back injury. (Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Groh actually had termed RB Josh Adams' promotion from the practice squad a "precautionary measure" but it sounds like Ajayi is going to miss some practice time this week and possibly the Week 3 tilt against the Colts. This puts Corey Clement, highlighted in this week's Through the Wire, as a high-upside RB2/3 or flex play.

Injury Darren Sproles out with hamstring injury
Moer ground game with Ajayi?
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 14, 2:30 pm

Philadelphia Eagles
#Eagles Injury Report for the Bucs game: OUT: WR Alshon Jeffery (shoulder), RB Darren Sproles (hamstring), QB Carson Wentz (knee) QUESTIONABLE: WR Shelton Gibson (knee) (Jeff McLance on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: One less cog in the wheel should help the fantasy prospects of Jay Ajayi and Corey Clement although it's difficult to expect Ajayi picking up much of the receiving work Sproles leaves behind. Wendall Smallwood should operate as the No.3 running back.

Injury Pederson on Ajayi: "We'll see him more"
Eagles RB used sparingly in first half
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 7, 1:00 pm

"Jay was nursing a little bit of a lower body (foot) injury for a couple weeks and I just wanted to make sure he as good and get him into the flow of the game ... he was the featured back in the second half. He did a nice job. It was encouraging to see not only going forward but his health coming to of the game was good. Moving forward, we’ll see him more." (NJ.com)

FFToday's Take: It's nice to get some candor from the head coach and his words should feel comforting to Jay Ajayi owners. Ajayi haters on Twitter were predictable over-reacting to his lack of involvement in the first half against the Falcons and while Corey Clement and Darren Sproles are going to remain involved in the offense, Ajayi should have RB2 throughout value during the season as long as he remains healthy.

Injury Jay Ajayi (foot) is practicing Tuesday
Eagles RB has been at practice two days in a row
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Sep 4, 12:29 pm

Philadelphia Eagles
Dave Zangaro (@DZangaroNBCS) on Twitter: "Jay Ajayi is back at practice for the second straight day. Good sign. #Eagles" (Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Ajayi appears to be on track to start Thursday in the NFL season opener and be the lead back, though Corey Clement is a sneaky DFS play and possible flex option in deeper leagues.
