Injury Arian Foster ruled out for week 3
Jonathan Grimes may sit as well
By: John Canario | Fri Sep 25, 6:55 pm

Houston Texans
Arian Foster will have to wait at least one more week before he returns to the football field. The All-Pro was ruled out for Sunday’s game by head coach Bill O’Brien, but is progressing well in his recovery from an Aug. 3 groin injury. “He won’t play this week, but he’s doing well,” O’Brien said Friday. Running backs may be down one more if Jonathan Grimes can't play Sunday. Grimes, now in his third season with the Texans, will be a game-time decision. He practiced on Friday after missing Wednesday and Thursday with a knee issue. (

FFToday's Take: Alfred Blue and Chris Polk will carry the load this weekend against Tampa Bay, and though neither have been especially productive thus far, they could post some decent numbers Sunday. The Buccaneers have allowed an average of 114 yards on the ground per game this season, and have surrendered three rushing touchdowns.

Injury Arian Foster ruled out Sunday
Texans' RB practicing but HOU not ready to deploy star RB in a game
By: John Canario | Fri Sep 18, 4:15 pm

Houston Texans
Ryan Mallett will take over as the Texans' starting quarterback on Sunday, but he'll do so without the services of running back Arian Foster. Foster (groin) made some progress this week and returned to a fairly active role in Texans practice. Head coach Bill O'Brien cautioned interested parties that this would be a slow integration. The team is hoping to have Foster for the long haul. While he would have been a nice safety net for Mallett as he tries to take hold of the starting job, Houston is wise to push the breaks on Foster. In the past, he's been dominant enough to win games on his own and they may need it down the stretch. Alfred Blue, Jonathan Grimes and Chris Polk each caught a pass in the opener but with the Texans facing a Panthers defense likely without Luke Kuechly they could try and exploit some short opportunities over the middle like Jacksonville did a week ago. (

FFToday's Take: This should come as no surprise, as Foster had groin surgery on August 7th - just six weeks ago. But those who scooped him up in their drafts still got great value, as the former top-fantasy RB was initially predicted to be out for half the season. It now seems virtually certain that we will see Foster by week four, and possibly as early as week three. In the meantime, none of the Texans' backfield options are especially start-worthy.

Injury Foster to be back "sooner than later"
Schefter: Could return in four, may be sidelined for six or more weeks
By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 7, 7:10 pm

Houston Texans
When Arian Foster went in for groin surgery, there were reports that he could miss the first half of the regular season while he recovered. The Texans haven’t used their IR-return spot on Foster yet, however, and it doesn’t sound like they think they’ll need to avail themselves of that option. “Arian is doing well, relative to the injury he has and the prognosis early on,” HC Bill O’Brien said, via the team. “He’s ahead of that. Again, like I always say to people, I reserve the right to change my mind. ... I think he’ll be back sooner rather than later based on the early prognosis.” (Pro Football Talk)

FFToday's Take: O'Brien non-update "update" doesn't help fantasy owners, while Adam Schefter's tweet essentially backs up the timeline most owners have been expecting. At this point, it would probably be wise for all parties involved to expect a return around Week 6. In the interim, Alfred Blue should serve as the lead back against a highly-favorable run schedule. Chris Polk and Jonathan Grimes also figure to see a handful of touches in relief of Blue.

Injury Arian Foster undergoes successful surgery
RB expected to be out three months
By: John Canario | Fri Aug 7, 4:55 pm

Houston Texans
Texans running back Arian Foster underwent surgery Friday morning to repair a groin muscle that was torn off the bone, according to a source. Although a timetable for his return is unclear, there's hope that his recovery time will be shorter than three months, the source said. Foster will miss several regular-season games, and it's possible he will be placed on injured reserve with a designation to return. The earliest the Texans can make that move is Sept. 6 at 4 p.m. ET. The Texans have not yet added another running back to a roster that includes Alfred Blue, Jonathan Grimes, Kenny Hilliard and fullback Jay Prosch. "We didn't make a move immediately because we felt like we were OK," Texans general manager Rick Smith said. "Chris Polk is on the mend and so hopefully he'll be back soon. We'll just keep adjusting to whatever happens out here on the field." (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: There's not a lot to get excited about in the Texans' backfield this year. Alfred Blue looked very mediocre last year and Chris Polk has had only limited experience in two NFL seasons. While Blue probably has the upper hand on the starting job for now, Polk has higher upside.

Injury Foster to have groin surgery on Friday
Texans' RB a candidate for short-term injured reserve
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Aug 5, 3:45 pm

Houston Texans
Houston Texans running back Arian Foster will undergo groin surgery in Philadelphia on Friday, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. He likely will miss the start of the regular season and could be placed on short-term injured reserve, which would allow the Texans to bring him back to practices after Week 6 and into a game after Week 8. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: The Texans' bye is Week 9 meaning the earliest Foster might see game action is Week 10 if he is indeed placed on the short-term/IR. Unable to agree on a deal with free agent Pierre Thomas, the Texans might elect to stay in-house with their running back options. Alfred Blue and Chris Polk will get first crack to fill Foster's void. Both are mid-to-late-round fliers in re-draft leagues.

Texans, Pierre Thomas can't agree on contract
Unable to agree on terms
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Aug 5, 12:45 pm

Houston Texans
Apparently the Texans’ plan to sign former Saints running back Pierre Thomas has fallen through after his tryout Wednesday. Thomas’ agent, Lamont Smith, had the following tweet: Pierre Thomas had a great visit and work out with texans, unfortunately we were unable to agree on terms. (Houston Chronicle)

FFToday's Take: The Texans are looking for running back help in the free agent market after Arian Foster injured his groin during practice Monday night. Foster is expected to miss a portion of the regular season. If the Texans fail to sign a free agent, Alfred Blue, Chris Polk and Jonathan Grimes are likely share time while Foster is out.
