News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Gronk's Week 1 status in some doubt
Decision reportedly to come down to coaches and medical staff
By: Doug Orth | Thu Sep 8, 8:30 pm

New England Patriots
Rob Gronkowski's injured hamstring is serious enough that he wouldn't guarantee that he will play in Sunday night's season-opening game against the Arizona Cardinals. "Yeah, it boils to a coaching decision, the medical team, and myself. We'll all get together and collaborate and see where I'm at," Gronkowski said Thursday. Gronkowski has been a limited participant in practice this week and when asked if he was 100 percent, he answered, "No, I'm not. Since that one time during practices versus the Bears [Aug. 15], I've just been week-to-week with a little hammy thing. So it's just been week-to-week, day-by-day, but I'm feeling good." (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Considering this is the Patriots, it wouldn't be a surprise if Gronk lights up the Cardinals on Sunday night. To that end, two sources have already suggested he'll play "barring an unexpected setback". With that said, owners need to prepare themselves for the possibility he won't suit up. Martellus Bennett would go from low-end TE1 to a midrange one in such a case, while James White and Julian Edelman could be in line for more work in the passing game.

Patriots release RB Tyler Gaffney, WR Martin
D.J. Foster should make team at RB
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Sep 3, 12:30 pm

New England Patriots
The Patriots made a few eye-opening cuts on Saturday as they trim their roster to 53 players. In addition to the release of receiver Aaron Dobson, Patriots Insider Tom E. Curran has reported that the Patriots have cut receiver Keshawn Martin, running back Tyler Gaffney and defensive tackle Markus Kuhn. (CSNNE.com)

FFToday's Take: The release of Gaffney could pave the way for D.J. Foster to make the team. LeGarrette Blount and James White should be the main fantasy threats out of the backfield for New England.

Injury Dion Lewis officially placed on PUP list
Will miss atleast the first 6 weeks of the season
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Aug 30, 4:30 pm

New England Patriots
Source: the Patriots have officially placed RB Dion Lewis on the PUP list, meaning he will miss at least the first 6 weeks of the season. (Field Yates on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: This was an expected move. James White will open the season as the Patriots pass-catching back and will have RB2/Flex value in PPR leagues. At best, Lewis will be waiver wire consideration later in the year.

Injury Dion Lewis expected to miss 8-10 weeks
PUP list seems likely
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Aug 21, 4:30 pm

New England Patriots
Running back Dion Lewis will be sidelined for another 8-10 weeks after he endures a second surgery on his left knee, according to a source. The ACL, which was repaired in November, is OK, but the Patriots’ medical staff determined they need to clean up an unspecified area in the knee. (Boston Herald)

FFToday's Take: The "clean-up procedure" will likely cost Lewis a good chunk of the season and should land him on the PUP list to begin the year, causing him to miss at least the first six weeks. LeGarrette Blount and James White appear to be the likely candidates for early season backfield work in New England with Tyler Gaffney, Brandon Bolden waiting in the wings.

Injury Dion Lewis needs another knee surgery
Timetable for return unclear
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Aug 21, 12:15 pm

New England Patriots
Patriots RB Dion Lewis needs 2d knee surgery, league source confirms. Timetable for his return is uncertain. Tore ACL last Nov. 8 (Jim McBride on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Lewis has been on the PUP list all of training camp as he recovers from an ACL tear suffered last November and while we don't know the details of the required surgery this obviously kills his fantasy value for the moment. James White is now inline to become the Patriots receiving back and quickly vaults into FLEX consideration in PPR leagues.

Injury Dion Lewis still not practicing
Nine months removed from ACL surgery
By: Doug Orth | Thu Aug 18, 5:00 pm

New England Patriots
Veterans reported to New England Patriots training camp three weeks ago, and every player except one has, at some point, been present on the practice field: Dion Lewis. With each training camp absence, the likelihood increases that Lewis will begin the year on the PUP list. If that happens, the earliest Lewis could play is Week 7 at Pittsburgh. By then, he'll be over 11 months out of surgery. While still not probable, there is obvious logic in leaving Lewis on PUP: they need to give themselves the best chance of having their guys — Lewis among the most important of them — available late for what they hope will be a Super Bowl run. (MassLive.com)

FFToday's Take: The PUP list doesn't appear to be all that likely given how nimble Lewis looked at June OTAs, but this may go right down to the wire. Boston Herald reporter Jeff Howe tweeted Thursday "don't be shocked if Dion Lewis doesn't practice until Week 1". This could hint at a reduced early-season workload for last year's breakout star and possibly some early-season relevance for James White or Donald Brown. Lewis is a high-risk, high-reward pick in the fourth or fifth round of most drafts.
