2018 Outlook
Depth Chart
The oft-forgotten man in the New England stable of running backs, James White led all Patriot ball carriers in targets (72) and receptions (56), while finishing fourth on the team in catches behind Rob Gronkowski, Brandin Cooks, and Danny Amendola.

Although the Patriots used a first-round pick on rookie Sony Michel, a talented college RB who can also catch passes, White projects once again to be the third down and pass-catching back for Tom Brady in 2018. White's value is significantly higher in PPR formats compared to standard leagues, as the former Wisconsin Badger has yet to carry the ball more than nine times in an NFL regular season game.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Rex Burkhead activated off IR
Out since Week 3 with neck injury
By: Doug Orth | Mon Nov 26, 7:45 pm

New England Patriots
Source: the Patriots have activated RB Rex Burkhead to the 53-man roster. He can play this Sunday. (ESPN - Field Yates)

FFToday's Take: Sony Michel and James White have carved out fantasy-friendly and predictable roles in the New England offense in his absence, but Burkhead's return figures to impact their production and workloads moving forward. He may not see a huge snap count in Week 13 if he even plays, but he may be a low-end option for owners desperate to replace Melvin Gordon. Either way, he is worth adding in all leagues while we find out how he will be used.

Injury Rex Burkhead back at practice
Eligible to play in Week 13
By: Doug Orth | Fri Nov 9, 1:35 am

New England Patriots
Welcome back to practice, RB Rex Burkhead. Burkhead (neck) is eligible to play on Dec. 2 vs. Vikings. This means Burkhead takes the Patriots’ second and final designated to return IR spot. (ESPN - Mike Reiss)

FFToday's Take: Good news for Burkhead, who has struggled to stay healthy as a Patriot. Owners of Sony Michel and James White have a right to be less excited, as both players have repeatedly shown they can deliver RB1 production when there isn't a third chef in the kitchen. Assuming Burkhead returns, he is a decent bet to ding the value of Michel slightly and steal enough work from White to make him more of an RB2. Burkhead is easily worth a stash if owners can find the room.

Injury Sony Michel expected to return for Week 10
Rookie RB should be on the field for Pats-Titans tilt
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Nov 6, 1:02 pm

New England Patriots
Adam Schefter on Twitter: "After missing the past two games with a knee injury, Patriots’ RB Sony Michel is likely to return Sunday vs. Titans, per source. Just needs a good week of practice with no setbacks, but on track." (Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Well, there you have it. The great Cordarrelle Patterson experiment seems to be over, and Michel will regain his rightful place alongside James White in the Pats backfield. Michel looks like a go for Week 10 and can be safely inserted as as RB3/flex play, with low-end RB2 upside.

Injury Michel's knee injury not considered serious
Could still miss time
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Oct 22, 1:10 pm

New England Patriots
Sources: #Patriots RB Sony Michel’s knee injury is not considered serious following his MRI. His timetable isn’t clear, but this is pretty good news for their impressive rookie runner. He still could miss time, but if he does, it may not be much. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Michel got his leg twisted early in Week 7 but it appears he escaped a serious knee or ankle injury. We'll have to wait for further details on how much time he will miss. James White and Kenjon Barner handled the rushing duties after Michel left the game. Upcoming schedule for the Pats includes @BUF, GB, @TEN, bye.

Injury Gronkowski doesn't travel with team
Highly unlikely to play in Week 7
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Oct 20, 4:30 pm

New England Patriots
Patriots’ TE Rob Gronkowski is “highly unlikely” to play Sunday vs. Bears as he didn't travel with the team to Chicago, per source. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Gronkowski has yet be ruled out officially but that will likely come tomorrow. He's battled ankle and back injuries recently and doesn't seem to be his usual "Gronk" self on the field. In his absence, Dwayne Allen will likely start but isn't a viable fantasy options. Julian Edelman Josh Gordon and James White should lead the team in receiving.

Injury Rex Burkhead headed to IR
Neck injury
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Sep 26, 11:55 am

New England Patriots
BREAKING: The #Patriots will be putting RB Rex Burkhead (neck) and rookie LB Ja'Whaun Bentley (unknown) on IR today, per league source. (Jim McBride on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Burkhead was a pre-season favorite of the fantasy community with and ADP in the 6th round at RB28. Now, Sony Michel, James White and Kenjon Barner now makeup the Patriots running back depth chart with Michel being the back to own in most leagues.
