2015 Outlook
Depth Chart
Owners in PPR leagues should consider adding second-year running back James White to their late-round list of targets. White, a former fourth round pick from the University of Wisconsin, is the leading candidate to take over the passing down role abdicated by the departed Shane Vereen. White is young and other players like Travaris Cadet, Dion Lewis and Brandon Bolden could end up taking the former role of Vereen, but for PPR owners looking for a possible draft and stash play, White could be an excellent option.

Injury Pats' Dion Lewis out for the year with ACL injury
RB injured in Week 9

New England Patriots
Tough news out of Foxborough: Patriots RB Dion Lewis out for the season with torn ACL per team source. (Jim McBride on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Lewis is was a key cog in the Patriots offensive machine and will be missed. Brandon Bolden and James White are available to soak up the passing game role out of the backfield while LeGarrette Blount remains the between the tackles runner.

Injury Dion Lewis not expected to play

Patriots RB Dion Lewis does not expect to play vs Jets due to abdomen injury, though team wants to test him one more time before final call. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: It sounds like Lewis will get one more opportunity in pregame warmups to prove he can be on the field in Week 7. If he's unable to go, LeGarrette Blount should get the start with James White and/or Brandon Bolden serving as the pass-catching back.

Dion Lewis the new face of the Pats' backfield?
RB rattles off 69 rushing yards and 51 receiving yards in Pats' debut

New England Patriots
Fantasy football owners generally know that New England Patriots running backs can be a shaky investment because of the way coach Bill Belichick often rotates them and alters the game plan on a week-by-week basis. But Thursday night's season-opening 28-21 win against the Steelers at least provided some clarity as to how the coaching staff views part of the depth chart. Dion Lewis, who hadn't played in a regular-season game since 2012, is now the clear-cut top option to fill the void created by Shane Vereen's free-agent departure. Vereen played 52.9 percent of the offensive snaps last season as the team's top "pass-catching" back, which is a high total that reflects how the Patriots regularly spread the field and rely on their backs as pass-catchers and in blitz pickup. That was the plan in Thursday's opener, as Lewis played 46 of 61 snaps. Brandon Bolden was sprinkled in at times (14), while James White played one snap, the kneel-down right before the half. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: LeGarrette Blount owners best make sure, if they haven't previously, to secure Dion Lewis after last night's impressive performance. The Patriots' RB situation is always a nightmare for fantasy owners but these two appear to be the two top dogs... for now.

Patriots release RB Jonas Gray
Brandon Bolden leads the Pats in touches Week 1?

FFToday's Take: This is somewhat a surprising move considering LeGarrette Blount is suspended for Week 1. The Patriots will likely lean on Brandon Bolden, Dion Lewis and James White against the Steelers Thursday night.
