2015 Outlook
Depth Chart
It has been widely recognized that rookie quarterbacks lean on the tight end as they become more adept at becoming a downfield passer in the NFL. If this adage stays true for the Bucs this season, then the most talented offensive tight end on the roster is Austin Seferian-Jenkins. Tampa Bay thought highly enough of his large athletic frame to make him a second-round draft choice in last year’s draft. The former college basketball player wasn’t used much in the offense last year, but his role figures to expand greatly in 2015. With veterans Brandon Myers and Tim Wright among the other options on the roster for run blocking, Seferian-Jenkins should see the bulk of the position’s targets, including those in the red zone. His lack of a track record will depress his value, but his upside should make him one of the better TE2 gambles on draft day.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury ASJ could be sidelined 4-6 weeks, shoulder injury
Strained shoulder
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Sep 22, 2:45 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are facing the possibility of being without second-year tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins for at least the next month. Seferian-Jenkins suffered a shoulder strain during the Bucs 26-19 victory over the Saints on Sunday, an injury that could keep him out for a month, a source with knowledge of the situation said. (Tampa Tribune)

FFToday's Take: ASJ came out of the gate hot with 110 yards and 2 TDs in Week 1. He'll now be sidelined likely until Week 7. The Bucs have a bye in Week 6. Brandon Myers and Luke Stocker will see increased snaps at tight end, but both hold little fantasy value.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins receives high praise
TE coach compares ASF to Tony Gonzalez
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Aug 4, 12:10 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
After the first open practice at Bucs training camp, Dirk Koetter, the team’s new offensive coordinator, compared Austin Seferian-Jenkins to Tony Gonzalez. “I tell you, if Austin is healthy, he reminds me … I coached Tony Gonzalez at the end of his career. Our tight ends coach, Jon Embree, had Tony in Kansas City,” Koetter said. “Austin’s talented.” (Tampa Tribune)

FFToday's Take: Wow. We've heard this sort of praise before, if not to this degree. ASF has 21 NFL catches for 221 yards, so perhaps the comparisons to a future Hall of Famer with 1,304 catches, 14,906 yards and 109 touchdowns is a bit much. But there's certainly plenty of upside in an offense geared toward TE production and a rookie QB who'll need a reliable checkdown. ASF projects as a high-risk, high-upside TE2.

ASJ "uncoverable" during offseason workouts
Second-year TE limited to nine games as a rookie in 2014
By: Doug Orth | Mon Jul 13, 3:50 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Can Austin Seferian-Jenkins avoid the bad luck of 2014? Will be be a force in the Dirk Koetter-designed offense in the way Mercedes Lewis was in Jacksonville, and Tony Gonzalez was with the Falcons during Koetter’s time in Atlanta? Seferian-Jenkins was healthy for all of the offseason workouts, and was virtually uncoverable during the offseason OTAs and mini-camps, which has to excite the Buccaneers staff and front office. Seferian-Jenkins, who will only turn 23 in September, could turn into a great target for rookie QB Jameis Winston who utilized former Florida State tight end Nick O’Leary often during his two seasons in Tallahassee. (Pewter Report)

FFToday's Take: The Tampa Bay offense as a whole is a sleeping giant, stocked with three pass-catching playmakers that all stand 6-5 in Seferian-Jenkins as well as WRs Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson. With Winston likely to put a stranglehold on the quarterback position for the foreseeable future and Koetter providing a huge upgrade at offensive coordinator, ASJ is easily capable of catching 50-60 passes if he can stay healthy this year.
