| The Texans believed they had solved their quarterback issues when they traded for Brock Osweiler and gave him a big pile of money after the 2015 season. Unfortunately, Osweiler wasn't up to the task as the Texans became one of four teams to finish last season averaging less than 200 yards of passing offense despite averaging over 36 passing attempts per game. Houston jettisoned Osweiler and now enter the year with Tom Savage leading the charge. A former fourth round draft choice by the Texans in 2014, Savage has played in a total of five games during his brief career. He hasn't done anything to make fantasy owners believe he will magically transform the offense into a high scoring unit but there are enough weapons around him to allow fantasy managers to use him as a matchup dependent fill in throughout the bye weeks. Houston is hoping Savage will do enough to keep the job but his leash won't be too long with highly touted rookie Deshaun Watson waiting to take over as the quarterback of the future.
| DeAndre Hopkins expected to play|
Missed practice all week with toe injury
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 15, 4:00 pm
|Two of the Texans' best players weren't at practice Friday during the portion open to reporters. Texans Pro Bowl wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins hasn't practiced all week due to a toe injury. He has 11 touchdown catches to lead the NFL. Clowney has a knee injury and an illness. He has nine sacks and 20 tackles for losses. Texans coach Bill O'Brien said he expects both players to play Sunday. (Houston Chronicle)|
FFToday's Take: It's worrisome that Hopkins missed practice all week but it sounds like he will be ready to go on Sunday. He faces a difficult matchup against the Jags secondary but Hopkins did manage 7-55-1 on 16 targets back in Week 1 with Tom Savage / Deshaun Watson under center.
| Savage suffers concussion, Yates to start|
Yates to face Jaguars in Week 15
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Dec 11, 7:30 am
|Bill O'Brien believes QB T.J. Yates will start Sunday against the Jaguars. (Houston Texans on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Tom Savage left Week 14 with a concussion and isn't expected to play Week 15. Yates gets a brutal matchup against the Jaguars leaving DeAndre Hopkins owners a difficult decision in fantasy playoff time. The Jaguars have given up the fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks and wide receivers.
| DeShaun Watson undergoes surgery |
No additional damage found
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Nov 8, 11:00 am
|Doctors did not find any additional damage in the knee of Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson while they performed ACL surgery Wednesday morning in Houston, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. (ESPN.com)|
FFToday's Take: With the surgery complete, Watson will begin his recovery to get back onto the field for 2018 season. In the meantime, Houston will continue to deploy Tom Savage as their quarterback. The 2014 fourth-round draft pick threw for 219 yards and one touchdown in Week 9's loss to the Colts.
| Deshaun Watson reportedly tears ACL|
Team awaiting results of MRI
By: Doug Orth | Thu Nov 2, 5:40 pm
|Sources: Texans QB fear Deshaun Watson suffered a torn ACL in practice today. A non-contact injury. MRI coming to confirm. (NFL.com - Ian Rapoport)|
FFToday's Take: Absolutely awful and stunning news for the Texans, who had become the league's highest-scoring team since Watson took over for good in Week 2. If Watson is in fact done for the season, Tom Savage will lead the offense the rest of the way, and the fantasy values of DeAndre Hopkins along with Will Fuller will take a sizable hit as a result. Per the Houston Chronicle, Houston will sign Matt McGloin to back up Savage.
