2015 Outlook
Depth Chart
The man formally known as “Johnny Football” has undergone a transformation this offseason. He’s ditched the theatrics, cut down on the buffoonery, and focused on football. Perhaps if he was as focused last offseason, he wouldn’t have put up one of the most disgusting rookie debuts in recent memory in a Week 15 stinker vs Cincinnati. But even his recent epiphany might not be enough to get him back on the field. Reports out of OTAs indicated Manziel is struggling with basic mechanics, as well as the playbook. When your opponents are Rice and Sam Houston State, you can get by with improvising and sheer athletic ability. When the Ravens or Bengals come to town you better be prepared, and he hasn’t been since he’s entered the league. The positive is he really can’t be worse than he was last year, and because he doesn’t have much ahead of him on the depth chart, he’s sure to play more snaps in 2015. There’s no doubt his athletic, dual threat upside make fantasy owners drool, and he certainly might flash in a spot start at some point this season, but let another owner make that gamble, and leave Manziel on the waiver wire.

News From The Past 90 Days
Details emerge regarding latest Manziel incident
QB reportedly threatened life of ex-girlfriend, self
By: Doug Orth | Thu Feb 4, 7:10 pm

Cleveland Browns
The ex-girlfriend of NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel told police that the Heisman Trophy winner told her "shut up or I'll kill us both" after forcing her into a car, hitting her and dragging her by the hair. On Thursday, News 8 learned harrowing details of last week's alleged assault of Colleen Crowley by Manziel, who is currently on the Cleveland Browns roster, but is not expected to return next season. After News 8 broke this story Thursday afternoon, Manziel denied wrongdoing in a published report. (ABC Dallas)

FFToday's Take: Per the report, the ex-girlfriend said she thought Manziel was on drugs or maybe having a psychotic break. Whatever the case may be, it is clear he has no business being on a football field anytime soon. The Cleveland Browns are expected to part ways with the 2014 first-rounder when the new league year begins on March 9.

NFL Draft Who will be the QB in Cleveland?
Rookie QB class may need time to develop
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Feb 3, 2:02 pm

Cleveland Browns
Who's next? That's the question at quarterback (again) for the Cleveland Browns now that they have made it clear they will move on from Johnny Manziel in March. To answer the question, remember the words of owner Jimmy Haslam the evening of the season finale: "We do have the No. 2 pick in the draft." There are three quarterbacks considered worthy of a high draft pick. The Browns could stay at No. 2 and take one, or they could trade down and hope to take one. (ESPN.com)

FFToday's Take: Jared Goff, Paxton Lynch and Carson Wentz headline the QB Class of 2016. All three possess quality long-term potential but will require a bit of development before being adopted as useful fantasy signal callers. The more conservative approach for the Browns will be to turn their attention to a useful stopgap veteran via free agency or trade while they develop a rookie chosen outside the first round.

Browns name Hue Jackson as Head Coach
Johnny Manziel not in Cleveland's future plans?
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Jan 13, 6:57 pm

Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns have named former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson as their next head coach. Jackson's hiring appears to mean the end of quarterback Johnny Manziel in Cleveland. A source close to the situation told ESPN Giants reporter Dan Graziano that the topic of Manziel was discussed at length in meetings between Jackson and Browns ownership. In those discussions, Jackson indicated he would prefer the organization move on from Manziel if he were to become head coach, and he was told that would not be a problem. (ESPN.com)

FFToday's Take: After spending the bulk of his pro coaching career in Cincinnati, Jackson will stay in Ohio to help revitalize the Cleveland Browns. It seems that Jackson will finally get a fair shot as a head coach after new management in Oakland decided to let him go following his first and only season as head coach in 2011. The offense is in dire need of a facelift after Johnny Manziel headlines have plagued the team from the moment he was drafted. Until the new coaching staff upgrades the quarterback position, however, Cleveland's offensive players will remain a tough sell for fantasy owners in 2016.

Manziel caught partying on Christmas Eve
Could get benched for off-field activities yet again
By: Doug Orth | Mon Dec 28, 7:35 pm

Cleveland Browns
Johnny Manziel apparently didn't learn the hard lesson he claimed he did from losing his starting job over the bye-week video. Another partying video from Christmas Eve surfaced Sunday, and it could land the Browns quarterback in hot water again. In the 10-second video, Manziel is seen rapping, dancing and drinking what appears to be a black cherry Four Loko -- an alcoholic beverage mixed with caffeine, taurine and guarana. His buddy in the video is double-fisting it with a can of Four Loko and a bottle of something else. (Cleveland Plain Dealer)

FFToday's Take: It is highly probable Manziel will not be HC Mike Pettine's problem much longer; either the 2014 first-round pick will be released or traded, Pettine himself will get fired shortly after Sunday's finale against the Steelers or both. Pettine promised the "repercussions would be harsh" if Manziel messed up again and, while he indicated this episode isn't as egregious as the previous one, it is still a distraction.

Johnny Manziel to start againt 49ers
Austin Davis back to the bench
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Dec 8, 2:30 pm

Cleveland Browns
Johnny Manziel will start at quarterback for the Cleveland Browns on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. The Browns want to further evaluate Manziel's ability on the field and how he handles any success and failure off it, a source told ESPN's Chris Mortensen on Monday. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: This move was predictable regardless of Manziel's off-field issues after Austin Davis failed to generate any success in a 37-3 loss to Cincinnati. A matchup against the 49ers represents a better opportunity for the team as a whole and the fantasy prospects of WR Travis Benjamin (shoulder) and TE Gary Barnidge.

Browns name Austin Davis the starter for Wk 13
Manziel will be the backup
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Dec 2, 11:30 am

Cleveland Browns
Johnny Manziel isn't out of the doghouse just yet. Browns coach Mike Pettine on Wednesday morning named Austin Davis the starter over Manziel for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals at FirstEnergy Stadium. (Cleveland Plain Dealer)

FFToday's Take: Josh McCown has been placed on IR with a broken collarbone. Manziel is being punished for reportedly lying to coaches about his off-field activities during the bye week. Davis went 7-for-10 for 77 yards, and a 42-yard TD in relief of McCown last week. He's a QB2 against the Bengals.

Injury Josh McCown has possible broken collarbone
Browns will chose between Austin Davis, Johnny Manziel
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Dec 1, 11:15 am

Cleveland Browns
Josh McCown is probably done for the season with a possible broken collarbone, a league source told cleveland.com. Options include veteran QB Austin Davis or the embattled Johnny Manziel. (Cleveland Plain Dealer)

FFToday's Take: Mike Pettine was not very forthcoming with an answer about who he'll start in Week 13, though after his demotion punichment for Week 12, it might make sense to give Manziel a shot to earn back the trust of the brass. "We'll watch the tape and discuss that (Tuesday),'' said Pettine. "I'm not prepared to answer that just yet."

Johnny Manziel loses starting QB job
Josh McCown to start Week 12
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Nov 24, 3:45 pm

Cleveland Browns
Johnny Manziel has been replaced by Josh McCown as the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, the team announced Tuesday. Two weeks after being named the team's starter, Manziel has been demoted to third string for Monday night's game against the Baltimore Ravens after social media posts surfaced this week that showed Manziel allegedly partying last weekend in Texas. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Manziel 10-week rehab stint this off-season apparently didn't cure his partying ways. Manziel posted a 24-point fantasy day against the Steelers in Week 10 but will give way to McCown. The Browns face the Ravens on Monday Night Football this week.

Injury Johnny Manziel named Browns' starter
Josh McCown (ribs) benched; team on Week 11 bye
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Nov 17, 11:35 am

Cleveland Browns
Jay Glazer (@JayGlazer) on Twitter: "Scoopage: #Browns are making the switch to Johnny Manziel as starting QB for rest of the season @NFLonFOX" (Twitter)

FFToday's Take: It appears the era of Johnny Football has officially begun. In what appears to be a lost season, with Josh McCown nursing a rib injury and the team on a Week 11 bye, this makes some sense. Manziel won't be deployable in standard formats, but two-QB leagues and DFS competitors should take heed.
