2016 Outlook
Depth Chart
Carlos Hyde has been the subject of much discussion among fantasy experts this off season after his season was cut short by injury in 2015. As a former second round NFL Draft pick, Hyde’s physical abilities are not really in question, but his inability to stay on the field has certainly been a concern. When healthy, Hyde has been one of the best under-the-radar stud running backs in the league. If you consider the horrendous supporting cast, coaching and game flow that he’s had to endure, Hyde has produced far better than he should have. Now in a new, high-octane offense, expect Hyde to get more total snaps and be used, particularly late in tight games, to close out the opposition.

While he’s known as more of a bruiser, Hyde also has the elusiveness to slip tackles and get around the edge as needed. He has reportedly lost a substantial amount of weight this off-season in preparation for his new role in the San Francisco offense - a sign that he is not taking his job as the starter lightly. One aspect of Hyde’s game that we’d like to see more of is his usage in the passing game. While he did up his catches-per-game number in 2015 from what he did in 2014, Hyde still hauled in just 11 total receptions in seven games. That’d put him at a pace to finish the season at a measly 25 catches. While that number shouldn’t go down, Kelly is known for using multiple backs to keep everyone fresh, however, so don’t be surprised if other backs spell Hyde on passing downs from time to time.

News From The Past 90 Days
Carlos Hyde still "main focus" on 49ers offense
Chip Kelly reiterates importance of ground game
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Nov 22, 10:48 am

San Francisco
Carlos Hyde owners got some good news from the SF coach today. “It’s just overall the way our team is built," Chip Kelly said. "We’re built to run the football. Carlos is the main focus of what we’re doing offensively." (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Hyde remains an RB2 with upside, though he'll always be more effective as a fantasy asset in closer games. Miami's run defense is solid -- but Hyde could get 20+ carries this week if the Niners can keep it close.

Injury Carlos Hyde's status still in question
Wearing non-contact jersey Thursday
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Nov 10, 2:00 pm

San Francisco
As he has for the last several days, 49ers running back Carlos Hyde took non-contact reps with the offensive unit Thursday but it still remains to be seen if he’ll be active and available for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals. (San Jose Mercury News)

FFToday's Take: The 49ers have said they'll likely make a decision on Hyde's status on Saturday. If he sits, DuJuan Harris would likely lead the team in running back touches. Arizona has been better than average against fantasy running backs making Harris only a Flex play option in Week 10.

Injury Gametime decision for Carlos Hyde
Shoulder injury
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Nov 6, 8:30 am

San Francisco
49ers expect RB Carlos Hyde's status to be a pre-game decision, but it does not sound promising that he will be active, per sources. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Hyde has been on the wrong side of the questionable tag all week and it seems to be a longshot for him to suit up. If the doesn't play, we could see a three-man committee of DuJuan Harris, Mike Davis and Shaun Draughn at running back for the 49ers with Harris having the most fantasy value.

Injury Carlos Hyde dealing with sprained AC joint
RB still sore and unsure about Week 9 status
By: Doug Orth | Thu Nov 3, 8:15 pm

San Francisco
Carlos Hyde indicated he has sprained AC joint; he's still sore and doesn't know if he'll play Sunday. (Eric Branch on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Sprained AC joints tend to lead to multi-week absences, so it is likely San Francisco's Week 8 bye didn't give him enough time to heal. OC Curtis Modkins stated earlier in the week that he felt DuJuan Harris "earned more opportunities" after posting 57 total yards on 13 touches in Week 7, so he should be the target for desperate Hyde owners looking for a handcuff. Mike Davis and Shaun Draughn will also steal snaps if Hyde misses this week, making all three backs low-end options at best.

Injury Carlos Hyde still in non-contact jersey
Shoulder injury
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Nov 3, 2:00 pm

San Francisco
Kelly: Carlos Hyde is still in non-contact jersey, hasn't taken any hits on shoulder. Sunday status TBD, will monitor end of week. (49ers on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Coming off a bye, most expected Hyde to be ready for Week 9 but as of Thursday his status is in doubt. This may be gamesmanship by the 49ers but Hyde owners should have plan B in place. DuJuan Harris, Mike Davis and Shaun Draughn are next up on the depth chart.

Injury Carlos Hyde in danger of missing Week 7
Shoulder injury
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Oct 19, 1:45 pm

San Francisco
Chip Kelly: It would be a "stretch" for RB Carlos Hyde (shoulder) to play Sunday. #49ers (Eric Branch on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Hyde is dealing with a shoulder injury and if he's unable to go, Mike Davis and Shaun Draughn would handle the running back duties for the 49ers. Davis has the more fantasy upside and should work most on early downs.
