Make no mistake: This Bengals offense is a two-back system. Even though Giovani Bernard had a breakout season and will lead the backfield in touches, don't sleep on Jeremy Hill, the rookie out of Louisiana State University. Shifty and agile for his large size, Hill comes to the Bengals from a run-based, pro-style college offense. The second back taken in the 2014 draft, Hill should find his way onto the field quite often if the Bengals stay true to their commitment to the run. His physical tools, pedigree (former high school All-American) and draft position all should give him the leg up with any potential battles with veteran counterpart BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Hill has a nose for the end zone (28 touchdowns in two years with the Tigers) and if he is able to earn the trust of the coaches with good ball control and blitz pickup, he could handle as many as 100+ rushes in his first season. Hill could take over the 30 carries Green-Ellis had in the red zone last season, as well as exceed five rushing touchdowns. Hill will clearly have the most fantasy value to Bernard owners, but there remains some serious potential value for everyone else as RB4/5.

Bengals hint at committee backfield
HC Lewis suggests Bernard will "get a little bit more"
By: Doug Orth | Thu Sep 4, 3:55 pm

Cincinnati Bengals
Fantasy Nugget: Bengals HC Marvin Lewis told me "A smart guy would say Gio gets a little bit more" when (I asked him about he would split touches between Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill). (Ross Tucker on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The first clue was the second-round pick the Bengals spent on Hill this spring, the second was Cincinnati's curious choice to give the LSU rookie 26 touches in the preseason finale and the third was the release of BenJarvus Green-Ellis. The good news for Bernard owners is that he is probably still in line for over 200 carries and 60-plus receptions because new OC Hue Jackson will put a heavy emphasis on the running game. As for Hill, he should be solid flex play going forward.

Law Firm gets the boot
Bengals release running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Aug 29, 3:16 pm

Cincinnati Bengals
The moment running back Jeremy Hill was selected in the second round of this year's draft, the writing appeared to be on the wall for veteran BenJarvus Green-Ellis. That was confirmed Friday when the team opted to release him. (Cincinnati Enquirer)

FFToday's Take: We figured this was coming and the Bengals made it official today. BJGE, 29, was set to make $3 million this year. Cedric Peerman and Rex Burkhead will make the final roster as backups to Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill. Green-Ellis may catch on with another team but he's not likely to be a fantasy factor in 2014.

Jeremy Hill's 26 touches a learning experience
Bengals missing many RBs in final preseason game
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Aug 29, 8:00 am

Cincinnati Bengals
The second-round pick from LSU touched the ball 26 times for 160 yards -- including 20 for 123 in the first half alone. Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said he utilized Jeremy Hill so much just so he could get a feel for what a heavy workload could be like in the regular season. (Cincinnati.com)

FFToday's Take: It's unusual for a player expected to contribute on a regular basis to get so much work in the final preseason game. However, the Bengals were also thin at the running back position with BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Cedric Peerman and Rex Burkhead out with injury last night. Hill is locked in as Bernard's backup and should see 8-10 touches per week.

Giovani Bernard projected for 300 touches
Bengals focus on running game will boost Gio's stats
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Jul 16, 8:00 am

Cincinnati Bengals
His ability won't be new this year and much talk early will revolve around new offensive toy Jeremy Hill. But this team will feature Giovani Bernard early and often. His expansion as a receiver will only help create a scenario where he can crack 70 receptions and 230 carries for 300-plus total touches. Buckle up. (Cincinnati Enquirer)

FFToday's Take: The prevailing wisdom amongst fantasy owners is that Bernard is poised for a breakout season which is why he's currently going in the second round of mock drafts. Bernard's catching ability makes him an attractive option in PPR leagues as well. His fantasy stock is on the rise.
