|It is hard not to think about the early fantasy impacts of Calvin Johnson, Julio Jones and even Cordarrelle Patterson when forecasting Bucs rookie wideout Mike Evans. First-round talents offer plenty of potential. Fantasy owners need to keep in mind, though, Evans will likely be the third-best option in the passing game on a team that ranked dead last in passing a year ago. A similar player to Vincent Jackson, Evans will make it tough for defenses to defend both sides of the field, especially near the goal where his huge 6'5” frame can block out smaller defenders. The competition for targets will also make him disappear some weeks as long as Tampa Bay is employing a run-orientated offense, however. He should get a chance to contribute early, but counting on the rookie from Texas A&M to be anything more than a WR3 would be unwise.

|Mike Evans now has just three weeks until the Bucs report for training camp on July 25, but the first-round pick from Texas A&M is hard at work. "Physically, I'm not in tip-top shape. I'm getting back into my game shape," said Evans, who is training with a group of players that includes Bears WR Brandon Marshall.
Evans missed much of his first month of practice with the Bucs with a hamstring injury, but expects to be fine for camp. His focus is dropping "7 to 10 pounds" with a goal of playing at about 230 pounds this fall after playing at about 235 at Texas A&M. (Tampa Bay Times)|
FFToday's Take: It is never good news when a player - much less a rookie receiver - says he needs to shed weight this close to camp, so it might be wise to keep tabs on Evans going forward. However, it doesn't hurt that he's working out with Marshall, whose game compares favorably to his own. Evans is one of about three rookie receivers that belong on the fantasy WR3 radar in redraft leagues.
