2015 Outlook
Depth Chart
Mike Evans delivered a quality rookie season to fantasy owners despite the offense’s struggle to put points on the board. Better quarterback play will almost assuredly see Evans’ poor catch rate of 55 percent improve in 2015, and he did spend a portion of the offseason working with Randy Moss. However, he is not likely to garner 23 percent of his team’s passing attempts as he did a year ago. Before anointing Evans a top-five player at his position and surefire WR1 for the upcoming season, take a closer look at the numbers. Tampa Bay passed the ball 531 times throughout the 2014 regular season against only 353 rushing attempts on its way to the worst record in the NFL. The coaching staff knows it will need to improve the running game, and while Evans will be the focal point of the passing game, it may be a little too bullish to predict a huge step forward in Evans’ second season as a pro. He appears to be over a slight hamstring issue from earlier this spring during OTAs and heads into training camp looking to develop chemistry with his new quarterback. The media hype surrounding Winston will undoubtedly keep Evans’ name in the fantasy spotlight throughout the entire preseason, which could inflate his fantasy stock by the time draft day comes around.

Injury Mike Evans expected to play
Hamstring issue
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Sep 20, 7:15 am

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bucs WR Mike Evans will be back on the field today after missing last week with a hamstring pull, source said. Good news for Jameis Winston (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Evans will be a gametime decision but it appears he will be on the field this week after being Inactive last week with a hamstring injury. He's safe to start assuming he's not scratched.

Injury Mike Evans claims hamstring is "100 percent"
Sat out Week 1
By: Doug Orth | Thu Sep 17, 6:10 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
According to Mike Evans, there’s nothing that should stand in the way of his return to the lineup in Week Two. Evans said Thursday, via Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times, that his hamstring is 100 percent. Evans isn’t guaranteeing he’ll be on the field against the Saints, however. He said he’ll practice Thursday and Friday and that his status for the game will come down to how he feels on Saturday. Evans returned to practice last Friday and said he felt he was “capable of playing” against Tennessee, which would seem to be a good sign for how he’ll feel when it comes time to make the decision for this week. (Pro Football Talk)

FFToday's Take: Last year, this news would have brought about much rejoicing. However, given how little Evans and rookie QB Jameis Winston worked together during the preseason and how bad the Bucs looked in Week 1, it is fair to wonder just how much impact his return will have for fantasy owners. Regardless, he needs to be in fantasy lineups as soon as he is cleared to play, whether that moment comes this week or next.

Injury WR Mike Evans returned to practice
Hamstring injury kept him out of Week 1
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Sep 16, 2:12 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bucs receiver Mike Evans, who missed Sunday's season opener with a hamstring injury, was back participating at Wednesday's full-pads practice, an encouraging sign for his chances of play this week when the Bucs are at the Saints. (

FFToday's Take: Mike Evans appears to be getting closer to returning to the field but his week 2 status will not be determined until later this week. Evan's fantasy matchup on the road against the Saints should make him a solid starting option in all formats if he does in fact make his season debut this weekend.

Injury Mike Evans a gametime decision
Team will make the call after pre-game warmup

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

FFToday's Take: Evans got in a limited practice Friday. It was noted by several beat reporters that he looked good on the field. Most believe he will suit up but we won't know for sure until later this afternoon. The Bucs play at 4 Eastern.

Injury Mike Evans limited in practice Friday
Will be a gametime decision
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 11, 2:05 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The chances of Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans playing in his team’s season opener Sunday against Tennessee appear to be improving dramatically. Mike Evans, who has been out since the second week of the preseason with a hamstring strain, practiced on Friday for what is believed to be the first time since he went down with the injury. (Tampa Tribune)

FFToday's Take: Evans returned to practice Friday and was limited. Head coach Lovie Smith hasn't ruled Evans out for Sunday's game, saying they will wait until Sunday to make a decision. He'll likely be listed as questionable on the Friday evening injury report.

Injury Mike Evans has hamstring strain
Bucs WR left MNF game with injury
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Aug 25, 8:30 am

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Mike Evans left Monday night’s preseason game against the Bengals with a hamstring strain, according to the team. He's considered day-to-day. (Pro Football Talk)

FFToday's Take: Evans, who just turned 22, caught 68 passes for 1,051 yards and 12 touchdowns last year as a rookie. With Jameis Winston now in as the Bucs’ quarterback of the present and future, Evans is one of the Bucs’ most important players and could become one of the league’s top receivers. This dampens expectations a bit, as soft-tissue injuries like this can linger.

Winston officially named starting QB for Bucs
Lovie Smith says 1st overall pick will take first team reps
By: John Canario | Fri Jul 31, 3:30 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith announced Friday that No. 1 overall pick Jameis Winston will be the team's starting quarterback. "Jameis Winston is our starting quarterback. He'll be taking first-team reps tomorrow," Smith said of the Bucs' first practice of training camp. "We brought him in here to be our quarterback." The quote is noteworthy only because it's the first time Smith has bluntly stated Winston would be the starter. During offseason workouts and minicamp Winston didn't take all the first-team reps, with Smith saying the rookie needed to "earn" the job. Winston apparently did just that. "All this talk about Jameis needing a mentor... Jameis doesn't need a mentor," he said, per NFL Media's Jeff Darlington. "He's ready to take the reins and go with it." (

FFToday's Take: It's rarely a confidence-instilling tactic to select a rookie quarterback in fantasy drafts, but Winston might be a serviceable slinger in two quarterback leagues. In his favor, he has an ideal wide receiving corps in twin towers Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson; both are 6-foot-5 and are major red zone threats.
