2018 Outlook
Depth Chart
Ebron has been a disappointment to fantasy owners since he was drafted in the first round of the NFL draft. And while he's joining a team with a clear cut TE1 already on the roster, he may have joined one of the better teams at targeting the position, potentially giving fantasy value to a second TE.

Even if Ebron comfortably sits as a TE2, he could have a target share in the 7% range and if his offensive role adds clarity this preseason, he could be a sneaky weekly play against bad defenses. Most likely only one of Ebron and Doyle will have consistent value, but an injury to either or poor play from one could open up a very valuable role.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury T.Y. Hilton expected to play
Did practice on Friday
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Dec 9, 7:30 am

Indianapolis Colts
Colts’ WR T.Y. Hilton, listed as questionable for today with a shoulder injury, will play vs. Texans, per source. Good to go. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Hilton missed practice Wednesday and Thursday this week but is expected to suit up against the Texans. Dontrelle Inman will not play leaving the Colts thin at the wide receiver position. Expect Hilton and TE Eric Ebron to be Andrew Luck's main targets.

Injury Ebron, Hilton less than 100 percent
Top receiving options have missed both practices this week
By: Doug Orth | Thu Dec 6, 4:40 pm

Indianapolis Colts
Quite a mess right now. Talked to Eric Ebron earlier and he was clearly sick. I’m almost certain he went home early. Something to watch. T.Y. Hilton (shoulder) is a concern, but he’s tough. Can’t see him missing a game at Houston. He’s made millions of dollars off the Texans. (Stephen Holder on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Both are expected to play as of now, but these ailments could be enough to serve as a tiebreaker in lineup decisions this weekend. The Texans have been very gracious in giving up points to tight ends, while Hilton has made a habit of burning Houston over his career. Both should be started in fantasy, but have other options ready just in case.

Injury Jack Doyle headed to IR
Kidney injury required hospitalization following Week 12
By: Doug Orth | Mon Nov 26, 8:10 pm

Indianapolis Colts
Colts coach Frank Reich announced tight end Jack Doyle suffered a kidney injury in Sunday’s game and required hospitalization Sunday evening. Doyle underwent “a procedure to control the injury,” Reich said. Doyle, he said, is doing well and the prognosis is good, but Doyle will be placed on injured reserve. (Stephen Holder - The Athletic)

FFToday's Take: Doyle sustained a hit late in the third quarter of Sunday’s win over the Miami Dolphins and reportedly has yet to be released from the hospital. His absence figures to make Eric Ebron a full-time player once again and returns him to elite TE1 status. Owners in deeper leagues could also roll the dice on Mo Alie-Cox as tight ends have become the apple of Andrew Luck's eye in the red zone.

Injury Doyle and Vinatieri expected to play in Week 8
Colts get starting TE back
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 26, 12:10 pm

Indianapolis Colts
Per coach Frank Reich, Adam Vinatieri likely will play Sunday. Same with Jack Doyle. Malik Hooker, Ryan Grant, Erik Swoope, Robert Turbin among those ruled out. (Zak Keefer on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Doyle's availability throws cold water on Eric Ebron's ceiling making both uncomfortable low-end TE1s against the Raiders. Doyle dominated snaps between the two before his hip injury but Ebron won the TD battle.

Injury Jack Doyle could return in Week 8
Sidelined since Week 2 with hip injury
By: Doug Orth | Thu Oct 25, 7:25 pm

Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has a chance to get another one of his favorite targets back this week against the Oakland Raiders. For the first time in five weeks, Jack Doyle was back on the practice field Wednesday. Doyle, who suffered a hip injury in the first half of the Washington game in Week 2, was healthy enough to get out on the practice field and haul in passes from Luck. There is cautious optimism from the Indianapolis staff about the tight end’s return. “I think there’s a chance that he’ll play,” Colts coach Frank Reich said. (The Indianapolis Star)

FFToday's Take: Doyle was limited in practice on Thursday as well. In his absence, Eric Ebron has emerged as a force. With that said, Doyle is something of a security blanket for Luck and on par with T.Y. Hilton in terms of being his most trusted pass-catcher. His return would likely make Ebron more of a low-end TE1 and remove Chester Rogers from fantasy relevancy, but it would also add a high-upside option to a position in fantasy that desperately needs it.
