2016 Outlook
Depth Chart
Now entering his third season as the signal caller in Oakland, Derek Carr has begun to establish himself as a leader in this offense and he has all the attributes of a franchise quarterback. Carr fell just 13 yards short of 4,000 yards off of just 350 completions, adding an impressive ratio of 32 touchdowns to only 13 interceptions. The improvements in the Oakland offense were some of the most dramatic of any team in 2015 and off-season workouts with star wide receiver Amari Cooper should help the two establish chemistry even earlier in the season. That duo, along with veteran Michael Crabtree, should once again be among the toughest combinations to stop for opposing defenses. Concerns with Carr’s fantasy value include the Raiders improved defense and the potential of a stronger running game, which could lead to fewer total pass attempts for the offense. Still, a more efficient passing game should lead to plenty of fantasy opportunities for Carr to again finish as a borderline QB1 by the end of the season.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury QB Connor Cook likely to start for Raiders
Shoulder inury for McGloin
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Jan 3, 11:00 am

Oakland Raiders
Raiders are going forward with the expectation that QB Connor Cook starts vs. #Texans, sources say. Matt McGloin not believed to be ready. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The Raiders season is circling the drain after losing Derek Carr to a broken leg in Week 16 and now losing backup quarterback Matt McGloin to a shoulder injury in Week 17. Latavius Murray, DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard should see plenty of action and plenty of eight-man fronts in their wildcard game with the Texans.

Injury Derek Carr avoided ligament damage
Broken leg expected to sideline him for remainder of season
By: Doug Orth | Thu Dec 29, 6:50 pm

Oakland Raiders
Former NFL quarterback David Carr wrote about the surgery his brother, Derek, underwent earlier this week for the Fresno Bee and painted a positive picture. Derek Carr, the Raiders’ starting quarterback, suffered a broken right leg in last Saturday’s win over the Colts. David Carr wrote that both doctors and the family were pleased with what they saw post-surgery, and perhaps most importantly he wrote that there was no ligament damage. (Pro Football Talk)

FFToday's Take: While the Raiders haven't placed Derek Carr on IR yet, Matt McGloin is unlikely to lead them to the Super Bowl, which has been thrown out as the earliest date Carr could return. The good news is the absence of ligament damage should result in less rehab time and give him a better chance to be cleared to work without limitations next spring and summer.

Injury Recovery timetable for Carr, 6-8 weeks
Raiders QB out with fractured fibula
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Dec 26, 11:15 am

Oakland Raiders
Raiders QB Derek Carr expected to undergo surgery on fractured fibula Tuesday in Los Angeles, per source. Recovery timetable is 6-8 weeks. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Carr broke his leg on Saturday and will miss the remainder of the season leaving Matt McGloin to quarterback the team in Week 17 and throughout the playoffs. McGloin won't be a recommended option against the Broncos in Week 17.

Injury Derek Carr and offense limited by finger injury
Raiders HC says QB can't take snaps under center
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Dec 20, 9:45 am

Oakland Raiders
Derek Carr has taken every snap for the past three-and-a-half games out of either the shotgun or pistol formation since dislocating his right pinkie finger on a mistimed exchange from center Rodney Hudson. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Even if the finger is taped during games, he can't take snaps from directly under center, which is limiting the offense. It may seem like a small problem, but the NFL's convoluted offensive scheming requires a bevy of offensive looks to execute an effective game plan. The offense just doesn't look the same since the injury.

Injury Derek Carr puts in full practice
Dislocated finger
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Nov 30, 7:45 pm

Oakland Raiders
ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr was a full participant in practice on Wednesday, three days after dislocating his right (passing) pinkie in two places on a mistimed snap from center Rodney Hudson. (ESPN.com)

FFToday's Take: Derek Carr will likely play the majority of this weekend's game out of the shotgun to minimize any potential contact on his injured pinkie finger. The injury makes Derek Carr, Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree riskier fantasy options for Week 13. Not only will Jack Del Rio have more incentive to run the ball if Carr's accuracy is off but any hit to the hand may also force him out of the game.
