2017 Outlook
Depth Chart
Progressing in each season of his career so far, the hype continues to grow for 26-year-old Derek Carr. His impressive 2016 season had him firmly in the NFL MVP conversation and his value was extremely noticeable in his team's Week 17 loss against the Broncos and subsequent first round playoff defeat at the hands of the Texans - both games in which Carr was unable to suit up. Now entering his fourth season, Carr will again have the opportunity to throw to arguably the league's best one-two punch at wide receiver, Michael Crabtree and Amari Cooper, and he will also add a big-bodied and physically talented tight end in Jared Cook to the mix. The addition of Marshawn Lynch to the running back committee should give fantasy owners some pause as Lynch has been one of the more productive red zone runners in the league throughout his career. That could potentially lead to fewer passing attempts near the goal line for Carr. In addition, Carr's struggles against his divisional competition have to be a big concerning. He threw for an average of just 211 yards per game and just four touchdown passes in the five games he started against AFC West opponents in 2016. None of those teams should take a significant step back defensively in 2017, so Carr is not necessarily a no-brainer every week starter for fantasy purposes at this point in his career. Still, the Oakland offense has tremendous upside overall and there's little reason to be worried that his seasonal numbers will take a dramatic dip down.

Injury Michael Crabtree expected to play Sunday
Bruised lung
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Oct 4, 4:45 pm

Oakland Raiders
Raiders wide receiver Michael Crabtree returned to practice Wednesday after missing last week’s game with a bruised lung. Coach Jack Del Rio expressed optimism Crabtree will play Sunday against the Ravens, according to Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. (Pro Football Talk)

FFToday's Take: It sounds like Crabtree will return to action in Week 5 but he will be missing Derek Carr at quarterback meaning Crabtree and Cooper should be downgraded to WR3s for their matchup against Baltimore.

Injury Derek Carr sidelined 2-6 weeks
Transverse process fracture
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 2, 6:20 pm

Oakland Raiders
Jack Del Rio said Derek Carr has transverse process fracture. "There's a real good chance he'll miss this week. Typically takes 2-6 weeks. (Michael Gehlken on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: It's the same injury that Tony Romo suffered last year. It's also horrible news for the fantasy owners of Amari Cooper, Michael Crabtree, Jared Cook and Marshawn Lynch alike, all of whom become likely fringe starters at best with EJ Manuel at quarterback. The Raiders can be targeted by defense/special teams streamers for however long Carr is out, including the Baltimore Ravens this week.

Injury X-Rays on Derek Carr turn up negative
Back injury not considered long term
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Oct 2, 7:45 am

Oakland Raiders
Head coach Jack Del Rio said Carr had back spasms. “It should be something that cleans up quickly,” Del Rio said. Derek Carr remains optimistic he’ll get a green light next week against Baltimore. He had X-Rays during the game that turned up negative for structural damage. Carr tried to loosen his back, but didn’t feel comfortable enough to return. (NBC Sports Bay Area)

FFToday's Take: Carr got kneed in the back and neck and left the Raiders-Broncos game in the 3rd quarter. EJ Manuel replaced Carr but it sounds like Carr could play next week against the Ravens. He'll be a mid-range QB2 if he does suit up in Week 5.
