2017 Outlook
Depth Chart
John Brown was a favorite among fantasy circles heading into the 2016 season. He was coming off a breakout 2015 where he caught 65 passes for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns and he was the young, big playmaker in a group of older, slower pass catchers who's skills were diminishing. His 2016 season started off slow, however, with just one reception in each of his first two games before he exploded again with 17 receptions over his next two contests. Things looked to be back on track before Brown began seeing the symptoms of a blood disorder (sickle-cell) which led to missed time and a tremendous amount of frustration from fantasy owners.

Obviously the blood disorder is a major concern heading into 2017, but there are reports coming out of Arizona that the team believes it has found a way to treat the problem, which should mean a much healthier start to the season. Because of his volatility, however, Brown remains one of the most obvious "boom or bust" players in the entire league heading into this season. If he can stay on the field, he has the real potential to lead the team in yards and touchdowns. On the flip side, there's a real possibility that he doesn't even play half the team's snaps if his health remains an issue.

Injury Carson Palmer lands on IR
Broken left arm
By: Doug Orth | Thu Oct 26, 6:00 pm

Arizona Cardinals
Any hope of a quicker-than-expected Carson Palmer return has been dashed. The Cardinals’ quarterback was placed on injured reserve Thursday with his broken arm, a move that will keep him out of action for a minimum of eight weeks. The earliest Palmer can return to the field is the Christmas Eve matchup against the Giants, which is the second-to-last game of the regular season. (AZCardinals.com)

FFToday's Take: It locks Drew Stanton (or maybe Blaine Gabbert at some point down the road if Stanton does not perform well) into the starting spot until Week 16 at the earliest and pretty much crushes the value of every Arizona pass-catcher. Larry Fitzgerald is probably viewed as a WR3 at best now, while John Brown is drop-worthy in redraft formats. Stanton will be hard to use as a QB2 in even the most favorable matchups, including Week 9 at San Francisco.

Injury Carson Palmer suffers broken left arm
Hopeful he can return in 4-6 weeks
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 23, 8:30 pm

Washington Redskins
HC Bruce Arians: Carson Palmer believes he might be able to come back in 4-6 weeks. Have to see what doctors say. If on IR, "definitely" save return spot. (AZCardinals.com)

FFToday's Take: Initial reports had him eight weeks, so if the second opinion he is seeking Monday verifies the new timeline, it would mean Palmer could return somewhere between Weeks 11 and 13. In the meantime, every Arizona skill-position player's fantasy stock takes a hit with Drew Stanton under center, including Larry Fitzgerald, John Brown and Adrian Peterson. If there is a positive, it might be that Palmer's absence should lock Peterson into voluminous workloads for the next month or so.

Injury John Brown likely to sit out Week 3
Quad injury
By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 18, 4:35 pm

Arizona Cardinals
HC Bruce Arians: WR John Brown "doesn't look hopeful" to play this week but some time to change. (Darren Urban on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: J.J. Nelson has typically excelled whenever Brown cannot go and he'll be in a good spot to do so again after Week 3 opponent Dallas just gave up four touchdowns to Trevor Siemian, including two to Emmanuel Sanders. Owners are advised to sit tight on Brown and hope he is ready for Week 4.

Injury John Brown ruled out for Week 2
Rookie Chad Williams expected to play

Receiver John Brown has been ruled out with a quadriceps injury, which means rookie Chad Williams will play in his first game. Receiver John Brown has been ruled out with a quadriceps injury, which means rookie Chad Williams will play in his first game. (Arizona Republic)

FFToday's Take: Missing David Johnson and Brown, the Cardinals will be relying on veteran Larry Fitzgerald and a combination of Kerwynn William, J.J. Nelson and Jaron Brown for their offensive production. Even in a plus matchup against the Colts, its difficult to trust this offense to post above average fantasy statistics.
