|Aside from a silly 9-catch 201-yard performance in Week 12, Markus Wheaton was a fantasy dud for a majority of the 2015 season. With nine 1 or 2 catch games last season, it was clear Wheaton wasnít a major focus of the passing game. His physical limitations donít make him a threat for big plays, and heís simply best as a slot receiver than can convert a few 3rd downs per game. Although he did net a career high 5 touchdowns and the loss of Bryant for the year means Wheaton moves up the depth chart, Darius Heyward-Bey plays as a better deep threat, and second-year player Sammie Coates offers much more upside, especially after the catch. Itís clear the Steelers simply view Wheaton as an interchangeable piece, and I just donít foresee the big role ahead that would make Wheaton fantasy relevant.

Hopeful to play on Sunday versus Bengals

|PITTSBURGH (AP) ó Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Markus Wheaton is optimistic his sprained shoulder will be good to go in time for Sunday's home opener against Cincinnati. Wheaton practiced Wednesday with an eye toward rejoining Pittsburgh's electric offense for an early-season showdown with the Bengals.
FFToday's Take: If Markus Wheaton does return for Week 2 it could create uncertainty in the fantasy projections for Pittsburgh's wideouts behind Antonio Brown. Prior to his shoulder injury, Wheaton was expected to contribute in 2016 as the starter opposite of Brown. Eli Rogers' will still be used out of the slot but Sammie Coates may see fewer reps against the Bengals if Wheaton is cleared for action.

FFToday's Take: Wheaton missed practice this week and it remains to be seen if he'll be ready for Week 2. In the meantime, Sammie Coates should see increased playing time along with Darrius Heyward Bey. Eli Rogers will man the slot position. Expect Josh Norman to shadow Antonio Brown most of the evening.

Steelers wide receiver group still unclear

|Eli Rogers played the majority of first-team snaps, manning the slot while Antonio Brown and Markus Wheaton lined up outside. It increasingly seems the Steelers could open the season favoring the aforementioned alignment. (CBS Sports)|
FFToday's Take: Rogers led the team in snaps tonight and is quickly earning a slot role with the starting unit, pushing Wheaton to the outside opposite Antonio Brown. Sammie Coates appears to be the odd-man out for the moment.
