2014 Outlook
Depth Chart
Running back Stepfan Taylor will join Andre Ellington as a second-year “veteran,” but also as the only other running back on the Arizona roster who will likely have any fantasy relevancy in the 2014 season. While Ellington’s 5.5 yards per carry average has many fantasy owners salivating, Taylor’s 3.2 yards per carry are not nearly as sexy. Granted, his numbers were accumulated on just 32 touches, but fewer touches typically translate to higher YPC averages for most tailbacks, due to their relative lack of damage taken throughout the season. So, there is a little bit of a concern here that Taylor was so far behind Ellington in terms of production when he touched the ball. Still, Taylor does have the pedigree of being a quality ball carrier. He was Stanford’s all-time leading rusher and does possess the talent to at least be a quality player. The real question for Taylor is how much playing time he is going to see if Ellington does stay healthy this season. Will the Cardinals opt to give him enough touches to be fantasy relevant with Ellington still playing, or will Taylor simply be relegated to a handcuff role? Truthfully, we don’t know at this point. The fact that Ellington is such a good pass-catcher would indicate that he will almost certainly be the team’s primary third down back, leaving Taylor more likely to be utilized for a drive or two per game to keep Ellington fresh. Taylor is likely to be undrafted in most leagues, but keep an eye on this situation early in the year. If this becomes a 50/50 or even a 60/40 split, Taylor could be a player to snag early in the year from the waiver wire.

Injury Ellington out with hip pointer, Taylor to start
Ellington misses third straight practice
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 5, 6:00 pm

Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals will be without starting running back Andre Ellington against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. The second-year back will miss the game because of a hip pointer suffered last weekend in Atlanta. Without Ellington in the lineup, the Cardinals will start Stepfan Taylor, coach Bruce Arians said. Marion Grice and fullback Robert Hughes, who didn't play an offensive snap against the Falcons, will fill out the backfield rotation. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Taylor has been named the starter but head coach Bruce Arians gave a response about playing the committee "by ear". Expected and Grice to see a fair amount of work. The uncertainty makes this a fantasy situation to avoid.

Injury Ellington not expected to practice this week
Gametime decision for Cardinals starting RB
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Dec 2, 9:45 pm

Arizona Cardinals
Tailback Andre Ellington isn’t expected to practice this week because of a “severe” hip pointer suffered in Sunday’s loss at Atlanta, Cardinals coach Bruce Arians told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Tuesday night, according to Fox reporter and SiriusXM host Alex Marvez. According to Marvez, Ellington’s status will be determined on Sunday, with Arians hopeful he can play. (ProFootballTalk)

FFToday's Take: Ellington has been dealing with a number of injuries this season and even though it's early in the week, it sounds like Ellington may be a scratch for Week 14. Marion Grice would get the start but would likely share carries with Stepfan Taylor. The Cardinals play a late-afternoon game on Sunday against the Chiefs.

Injury Marion Grice could start at RB on Sunday
Cards rookie to get first crack if Andre Ellington is inactive
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Dec 2, 9:17 am

Arizona Cardinals
Marion Grice likely will be the first one in if Andre Ellington cannot play, but Stepfan Taylor and Robert Hughes will be in the mix, Arians said, while the Cardinals will use a Wednesday padded practice to see where newcomer Michael Bush might fit into the equation. (azcardinals.com)

FFToday's Take: Grice, a 22-year-old Arizona state product drafted in the sixth round by the Chargers, lost out to Branden Oliver in camp and made the move to Arizona when the Cards signed him off the practice squad. While he’s clearly not a world-beater, Grice could see a high number of touches if he gets off to a good start, and will serve as a decent RB3/flex PPR option in deeper formats if Ellington is inactive.

Injury Andre Ellington dealing with sore ribs
Also working through foot injury; 30 touches in Week 7 win
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 20, 6:50 pm

Arizona Cardinals
Cardinals HC Bruce Arians said Monday RB Andre Ellington has sore ribs following Sunday's win at Oakland. However, he is not dealing with any structural damage. Ellington rushed for 88 yards on 24 carries and added 72 receiving yards on six catches during a 24-13 win Week 7. Ellington has 393 rushing yards and is averaging 3.7 yards per carry through six games. He also has 260 receiving yards and two touchdowns (one rushing). (CBS Sports)

FFToday's Take: Yet another injury-prone back that has managed to stay healthy this season, Ellington reportedly called for Stepfan Taylor to vulture both of his touchdowns in Week 7. Ellington has surprisingly held up despite dealing with a foot issue since the start of the season and is averaging 21.6 touches after getting 30 against Oakland. Owners in desperate need of RB depth could take a shot with Taylor, who would likely be featured if Ellington got hurt.
