2015 Outlook
Depth Chart
To say that third-year tight end Jordan Reed is injury prone might be one of the biggest understatements in fantasy. In his first two seasons with Washington, Reed played in only 20 of 36 possible games. The lure for fantasy owners, is that he played exceptionally well in those 20 games, posting just over 1000 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Perhaps most impressive, is the fact that Reed displayed excellent hands by catching nearly everything thrown his way, and he appeared to be a solid safety valve for all of the Redskins quarterbacks. The former Florida Gator underwent a knee procedure this offseason and will be out of action until training camp. Fantasy owners looking for an upside number two tight end may want to give Reed a flyer late in drafts, but expecting Reed to play a full 16-game season seems like a mistake.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Jordan Reed sits out of practice Wednesday
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Oct 7, 5:30 pm

Washington Redskins
Tight end Jordan Reed also did not practice because of a concussion and his availability for Sunday remains uncertain. (

FFToday's Take: Jordan Reed's status for Week 5 remains in limbo. Reed is in concussion protocol and his owners will need to have another option ready to go if he is declared out for Sunday. Derek Carrier caught a couple of passes while filling in for Reed last week and would be in line for similar production if asked to do so again.

Injury Jordan Reed dealing with sprained MCL, concussion
No timetable for return
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 5, 4:00 pm

Washington Redskins
Washington HC Jay Gruden says Jordan Reed has a sprained MCL, but came back from that. He also has a concussion and is in the protocol. No timetable. (ESPN 980 on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Obviously, the concussion is the bigger issue here. Reed has reportedly suffered at least five concussions dating back to his college days at Florida, so Washington and fantasy owners could be looking at an extended absence - perhaps through the team's Week 8 bye. Derek Carrier is next up on the depth chart behind Reed.

Injury DeSean Jackson out for Week 4
Hamstring injury
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 2, 7:30 am

Washington Redskins
Redskins source tells me DeSean Jackson is out Sunday and possibly longer. Said "not even close." (Britt McHenry on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Jackson will miss his grudge game against the Eagles leaving Pierre Garcon and TE Jordan Reed to be the top targets in the passing game for Kirk Cousins. Garcon is a WR3 consideration while Reed is a mid-range TE1.

Injury Giants rule DRC and Victor Cruz out
New York thin in the secondary
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Sep 23, 4:20 pm

New York Giants
The New York Giants will be without top cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie for Thursday night's game against Washington, and wide receiver Victor Cruz will have to wait at least one more week for his return to the field. (

FFToday's Take: The injury to Dominick Rodgers-Cromartie leaves a defense that has been shredded the past two weeks with huge holes to fill in the secondary. Look for Kirk Cousins to test the Giants pass defense with Jordan Reed, Pierre Garcon and company on Thursday night. Additionally, New York released Preston Parker this week and Victor Cruz remains sidelined leaving the door wide open for Rueben Randle to stake his claim in the passing offense behind Odell Beckham Jr.

Injury DeSean Jackson expected to miss 3-4 weeks
Hamstring injury
By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 14, 12:23 pm

Washington Redskins
Redskins WR DeSean Jackson expected to miss three to four weeks with strained hamstring, per source. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Jackson posted a goose-egg in Week 1 after leaving early in the first quarter with a hamstring injury. In his absence, expect Pierre Garcon and TE Jordan Reed to be the top targets for Kirk Cousins. Reed posted a 7-63-1 line on 11 targets in Week 1.

Injury Jordan Reed to miss Thu preseason game
Hamstring injury remains an issue
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Aug 18, 5:33 pm

Washington Redskins
Gruden said Jordan Reed isn't sitting out as a precaution. His hamstring still hasn't healed. Wouldn't play if it was reg season game. (Mike Jones on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Reed has an extensive history with hamstring injuries but he's got a golden opportunity to have his best season as a pro given the injury to fellow tight end Niles Paul. Reed's health is a major concern for fantasy owners making him a TE2 flier late in re-draft leagues.

Injury TE Niles Paul out for the season, ankle injury
Redskins thin at tight end position
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Aug 13, 10:30 pm

Washington Redskins
Niles Paul, who entered the game as the teamís starting tight end and only proven, healthy player at the position, carted off with a season-ending ankle injury. (Washington Post)

FFToday's Take: With Jordan Reed sidelined with yet another hamstring injury and Logan Paulsen battling a foot issue, the Redskins are currently thin at the tight end position. Reed is going to have an enormous opportunity now that Paul is lost for the season but his injury risk is through the roof.

TE Niles Paul leapfrogs Jordan Reed on depth chart
Gruden: Paul is a more complete tight end
By: Doug Orth | Mon Aug 10, 5:20 pm

Washington Redskins
Washington HC Jay Gruden says TE Niles Paul is a more complete tight end than Jordan Reed, and that's why he is now the starting TE. (Mike Jones on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Coaches can sometimes play games with their depth chart, but Paul's commitment to improve each offseason (and ability to stay healthy) has apparently moved him ahead of the toolsy Reed, who has been unable to stay on the field very long in his brief NFL career. As a result, Paul has 40-50 catch upside for a player that is going undrafted at the moment. Dynasty owners should also take note and act accordingly.
