2015 Outlook
Depth Chart
Randle enters training camp as the starting running back poised to replace DeMarco Murray as the lead ball carrier in a potent rushing attack. The former fifth round pick from Oklahoma State will compete against veteran tailback Darren McFadden, who signed a free agent deal after a somewhat disappointing seven-year stint with the Raiders. Randle showed excellent burst and power as a change of pace back for Murray last season, averaging just under seven yards per carry on 51 runs in limited action. However, when he did see more than 10 carries per game in four games in his first two seasons, he averaged less than 3.5 yards per carry, including a dismal 17 yards on 11 carries against the Redskins in Week 6 of 2013. It remains to be seen if he can handle between 15 and 20 carries per game, which he would need to be worthy of a top-20 RB ranking. A possible dreaded running back by committee is another factor that hurts Randle’s value this season, as the Cowboys could use both Randle and McFadden in early down situations, with Lance Dunbar acting as the third down back.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Darren McFadden placed on active/PUP list
Hamstring injury
By: Doug Orth | Thu Jul 30, 6:35 pm

Dallas Cowboys
The search for DeMarco Murray’s replacement will go on without Darren McFadden practicing at the start of training camp. On Thursday, he was placed on the active/physically unable to perform list with a hamstring injury. McFadden’s body has routinely betrayed him since his NFL career was launched in 2008. McFadden suffered 15 injuries in his first six seasons that caused him to miss 29 games. (Dallas Morning News)

FFToday's Take: Former McFadden owners probably aren't surprised by this development since most of the 15 injuries McFadden suffered in Oakland were to his hamstring. With many evaluators suggesting McFadden lost some of his explosiveness during his final days in Oakland, it would seem Joseph Randle's grip on the right to replace Murray is tightening. The Cowboys have reportedly been in contact with Chris Johnson in recent days, for what it is worth.

Randle heads into training camp as starting RB
Cowboys RB ready to have career year
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Jun 23, 7:00 am

Dallas Cowboys
Joseph Randle led most of the individual drills throughout offseason workouts and regularly worked with the first-team offense. With a month to go before training camp, taking over as the lead back behind the Cowboys’ talented offensive line appears to be Randle’s job to lose. (Dallas Morning News)

FFToday's Take: Randle's competition currently includes Darren McFadden and Ryan Williams which is part of the reason why Randle's ADP currently sits at 4.04 (RB No.20) in twelve-team leagues. Assuming he can keep his head on straight, Randle has a chance to make a big fantasy impact in his third season.

FFToday's Take: We'll be tracking the Cowboys running game this entire pre-season trying to get some clarity on the expected workload distribution between McFadden, Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar. McFadden has been limited during OTAs, giving Randle the first shot at making a lasting impression.

Cowboys sign RB Lache Seastrunk
Dallas searching for answers at RB position
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Jun 8, 10:35 am

Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys are adding another running back to their 90-man roster as they continue to search for the right mix to replace DeMarco Murray. The Cowboys are signing former Baylor running back Lache Seastrunk, who had a standout high school career at Temple. Seastrunk will compete for a roster spot against Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden, Lance Dunbar and Ryan Williams. The Cowboys are expected to release undrafted rookie running back Synjyn Days out of Georgia Tech. (Dallas Morning News)

FFToday's Take: Despite the team putting on a good face, there's still some uncertainty surrounding the running back position in Dallas. Randle and McFadden are the atop the depth chart but neither inspire confidence or security at the position. Seastrunk in no lock to make the final roster

D-Mac determined to prove he is not a bust
RB coach impressed so far with ex-Raider
By: Doug Orth | Mon Jun 1, 5:05 pm

Dallas Cowboys
Darren McFadden’s seven-year run with the Oakland Raiders was mostly a disappointment. He had one 1,000-yard season, played in a full season just once and did not average better than 3.4 YPC in any of his final three seasons in Oakland. "He wants to prove that he wasn’t the bust that people are talking about," said RB coach Gary Brown. "We are going to give him the opportunity to prove that. ... I like what I see. I can’t wait to see him in pads." Joseph Randle and McFadden split the first-team work, such as it is in OTAs. McFadden took the first turns in individual drills, but that might have more to do with experience than pecking order. (ESPN Dallas)

FFToday's Take: McFadden last played in a zone-running scheme with Oakland in 2012 and averaged only 3.3 YPC, although Brown likely believes Dallas' offensive line will help the 27-year-old back perform better this time around. His long and well-chronicled injury history - usually hamstring-related - is another reason fantasy owners believe Randle will win this competition eventually, but it is unlikely any final decision on the depth chart will be made until early-to-mid August. Ryan Williams could also work himself into the mix with a healthy camp as well.

Joseph Randle eyeing a starting RB role in Dallas
Could Randle be the Demarco Murray successor?
By: paul maland | Wed May 27, 6:25 pm

Dallas Cowboys
With DeMarco Murray now in Philly, the only thing that stands in the way of Joseph Randle and a starting job is free agent addition Darren McFadden. Early signs point to Randle having an edge on the job. After watching Murray put up 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns last season, Randle stated that he felt like "there was a lot of meat left on the bone". (Cowboys Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Rushing behind the best offensive line unit in the NFL, Murray owners cashed in fantasy gold in 2014. Randle is licking his chops looking at the plentiful workload. However, even if he wins the starting gig he would merely be the leader of the dreaded RBBC. Regardless, whoever starts behind that offensive line gets a major fantasy boost and is worthy of an RB2 status.

Joseph Randle favorite to lead RBBC in Dallas
RBBC will limit fantasy upside of Dallas' backfield
By: Jake Gordon | Wed May 20, 11:00 pm

Dallas Cowboys
Question: It seems to me that there is a growing perception that Joseph Randle is the lead for most carries among the committee of running backs. This seems to be a reasonable assumption based on his one-cut skill set aligning better to the Cowboys running scheme as opposed to the other backs. Would you agree with that assessment? Rainer Sabin: Yes. I agree with that. Plus, he has played more regularly in this particular system and behind this line before. (Dallas Morning News)

FFToday's Take: After a year in which Demarco Murray helped many a fantasy manager win their league title, the Cowboys' backfield has become a risky bet for 2015. Heading into the year, Joseph Randle seemingly has the slight edge to be the most productive runner but the fact remains that there will be plenty of mouths to feed, including free agent signees Darren McFadden and Ryan Williams.
