2018 Outlook
Depth Chart
In the offseason of the 2017 season, the Vikings threw cash at Murray hoping he could be the lead back in the offense. But shortly after signing he underwent ankle surgery, and because he was slow to recover, it looked like rookie sensation Dalvin Cook would relegate Murray to being "just another guy" on the team. Eventually Murray got healthy, Cook went down, and the Vikings were forced to lean on their free agent. And lean they did. Murray averaged over 14 attempts per game during his starts, with the team going an impressive 11-0 when he carried the ball at least 15 times. Sure, he mostly got only what was blocked, as evidenced by his 3.9 yards per carry average, but he scored 8 touchdowns and was well worth the offseason investment.

Unfortunately for Murray's fantasy value, the Vikings clearly view him as a backup, as the two sides reached a restructured contract agreement in the offseason, lowering his salary. Because he provides little in the passing game (15 receptions last year), Murray is merely a handcuff for Dalvin Cook owners and would only have fantasy value should Cook go down again with an injury.

Injury Dalvin Cook will be on a pitch count, if he plays
Hamstring still not 100 percent
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Oct 13, 8:00 pm

Minnesota Vikings
The plan, as of now, is for Dalvin Cook to play on Sunday. Vikings will have him on a pitch count of 20-25 plays, assuming he goes. Cook said Friday he’s feeling much better, but his hamstring still clearly isn’t 100 percent yet. Still, Vikings are hopeful he can help in a limited capacity. (Ben Goessling on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: This isn't exactly what fantasy owners want to hear. It might be better for Cook to rest another week and instead of risking re-injury this weekend. It will be difficult to trust Cook in a fantasy lineup given the likelihood of a reduced role. Latavius Murray and Roc Thomas will likely see work as well.

Injury Dalvin Cook not expected to play
Hamstring injury
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 7, 1:00 am

Minnesota Vikings
The #Vikings are not expecting RB Dalvin Cook (hamstring) to play Sunday vs. the #Eagles, sources say. It would take an impressive turnaround for him to be on the field. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Expect Latavius Murray to see the bulk of carries for the Vikings in Week 5. Unfortunately, the matchup is brutal as the Eagles have given up next to nothing to running backs thus far in 2018. Murray is a flex play at best in what should be a pass-heavy gameplan from the Vikings.

Injury Dalvin Cook to be listed as questionable
Hamstring injury

Minnesota Vikings
Mike Zimmer called Dalvin Cook questionable for Sunday. (Chris Tomasson on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Cook did not practice Wednesday or Thursday, so his Week 5 prospects are not looking good. Latavius Murray would be in line for another start, but he has yet to post a quality fantasy performance. Poor performance on the offensive line has been to blame for most of that, but it seems unlikely Murray or any other Minnesota running back is going to get it going against the Eagles' stout run defense. If Cook doesn't play, most owners should be able to find a better start than Murray.

Injury Dalvin Cook listed as questionable

Minnesota Vikings
According to the NFL's communications website, the Vikings listed Dalvin Cook, Anthony Harris, Tom Johnson and Riley Reiff as questionable for Thursday's game. Marcus Sherels and Everson Griffen are out. (Ben Goessling on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Cook was limited in practice on Wednesday with a hamstring injury that kept him out in Week 3. Cook will likely be a gametime decision when the Vikings play the Rams on Thursday night. It wouldn't be surprising to see Cook sit this one out given the short week. Latavius Murray would be a flex consideration if he gets the start.

Injury Dalvin Cook out for Week 3
Latavius Murray expected to start
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 21, 1:35 pm

Minnesota Vikings
Dalvin Cook and Everson Griffen are both out for Sunday, Mike Zimmer said. (Ben Goessling on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Cook has been bothered by a hamstring injury this week. His absence will allow Latavius Murray to get the start and should handle a majority of the workload against the lowly Bills. This shapes up as a good game script for Murray with a higher TD expectation than normal.

Injury Dalvin Cook in doubt for Week 3?
Hamstring injury
By: Doug Orth | Thu Sep 20, 7:05 pm

Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings are overwhelming favorites to beat the Bills on Sunday. But there’s a chance they’ll have to do it without their top tailback. Dalvin Cook didn’t practice on Wednesday, due to a hamstring injury that he suffered late in the team’s Week Two tie at Green Bay. (Pro Football Talk - Mike Florio)

FFToday's Take: While it is still early in the week, owners should expect to be without him or expect him to play limited snaps at best. The Vikings should not struggle to beat Buffalo and have bigger fish to fry with the Rams and Eagles next up on the schedule. Owners and DFS players alike should not hesitate to saddle up Latavius Murray if Cook sits.

Dalvin Cook cleared for camp
RB completing rehab from Week 4 ACL tear
By: Doug Orth | Thu Jul 26, 4:45 pm

Minnesota Vikings
Nice work by Dalvin Cook in his rehab to the point where Vikings say he will be a full go as training camp ramps up. (Chris Tomasson on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Barring a setback in August, Cook should be ready to hit the ground running in Week 1. The Vikings could play it cautious with him over the first month or so and let Latavius Murray get five to 10 touches per week, but this really should be Cook's backfield. He's a solid second-round pick in fantasy drafts and could easily return RB1 value.
