|With Rashard Mendenhall having played and talked his way out of Pittsburgh and Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer having failed to prove themselves worthy of handling the lead running back role, the Steelers chose Michigan State's Le'Veon Bell in the second round of this year's draft. The 6'1”, 244-pound Bell had a productive collegiate career, excelling both as a rusher and a receiver with the Spartans. Although he has solid size, the knock on Bell in college was that he too often tried to dance his way around defenders rather than just running over them. He will need to correct that to succeed in the NFL given his lack of ideal speed. However, there is no denying that Pittsburgh was an ideal landing spot for Bell because of their propensity for relying on large running backs that can move the pile, and their lack of talent on the depth chart at running back. Bell should land the starting spot on opening day and, given the young talent on the offensive line and the question marks among the receivers, he should be considered an upper-tier RB2 in 2013.
Comment: Bell (foot) has no timetable for a return but it's conceivable he could miss just a couple weeks of the season.
| Le'Veon Bell expected to play -- Tue Sep 24 1:00 pm --|
|Running back Le'Veon Bell is expected to make his NFL debut on Sunday when the Steelers play the Minnesota Vikings in London.
Coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that Bell is "going to play" against the Vikings, although he did not commit to the Steelers' second-round draft pick starting the game at Wembley Stadium. (ESPN)|
FF Today's Take: Bell has been nursing a sprained foot since the middle of August. The Steelers have a bye in Week 5 and assuming he has no setbacks, Bell should be in a starting role in Week 6. If he's still on your waiver wire, grab him now.
| Le'Veon Bell Questionable -- Fri Sep 20 10:00 pm --|
Practiced in full
|Rookie running back Le'Veon Bell made rapid progress with his injured foot this week and is officially listed as questionable. Bell, who injured his foot in the second preseason game against Washington, did not dress the first two weeks.
"I'm feeling good," Bell said. "My foot felt amazing today. The question is how I'll feel tomorrow."

FF Today's Take: If Bell is sitting out there on your waiver wire, it's time to give him a look. He's by far the Steelers most talented runner and should be in for a full workload whenever he is healthy. It's likely he would be limited in Week 3 if he does play.
