|Kirk Cousins may start Week 1|
Kirk Cousins getting the call
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Aug 29, 10:03 am
|Sources say the plan is not only to start Kirk Cousins tonight in Baltimore, but also week 1 against Miami. (Dianna Marie Russini)|
FFToday's Take: Robert Griffin III suffered a head injury/concussion last week and this may have opened the door for a changing of the guard at the quarterback position. If Cousins plays well tonight against Baltimore, expect to see him under center Week 1. Griffin is off the fantasy radar until further notice.
| Robert Griffin suffers concussion|
No timetable for return
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Aug 20, 9:00 pm
|Gruden confirmed after the game Robert Griffin III suffered a concussion.
The severity of Griffin’s injuries wasn’t immediately clear when the buzzer sounded on the 21-17 victory over the Detroit Lions. But given Griffin’s history, which includes three major leg injuries, any setback that prevents him from playing a 16-game regular season or developing a fluency in Gruden’s offense represents major cause for alarm for the Redskins.
FFToday's Take: Griffin got knocked around by the Lions defense during his four drives in the first half and was eventually knocked out of the game. No timetable is set for Griffin's return. Backup quarterbacks Colt McCoy and Kirk Cousins looked good in relief and will likely cause some QB controversy talk to begin as the team heads towards preseason game number three.
|Shanahan still says Kirk Cousins is an NFL starter|
Redskins’ QB turns in dominant preseason performance
By: John Canario | Fri Aug 14, 3:30 pm
|Former Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan — the man who drafted Kirk Cousins, and consistently praised Kirk Cousins, and eventually started Kirk Cousins after benching Robert Griffin III — remains solidly convinced that Kirk Cousins is a starting NFL quarterback. “I think Kirk Cousins has got a big-time future,” Shanahan said Friday morning on 106.7 The Fan. “He’s a starter in the National Football League, and that’ll be proven out in time.” (Washington Post)|
FFToday's Take: After coming in for Robert Griffin III in the second quarter of last night’s preseason affair, Cousins turned in an impressive showing completing 12 of 14 passes for 154 yards, and added a rushing touchdown for good measure. There’s no doubting his ability to pile up points in bunches, but he’s still only a backup and a polarizing one at that. He shouldn’t be on your fantasy radar unless you own RG3 and want some insurance.
