| David Wilson informed NFL career is over|
Suffered neck burner last week after undergoing 2013 surgery

|Informed he can never play football again, David Wilson at the incredibly tender age of 23 offered perspective rare in someone so young. Wilson’s dream of playing in the NFL came to an end after two seasons and only 21 games as the worst-case scenario unfolded around him. He was examined Monday by Dr. Frank Cammisa, the spine specialist who last January performed a cervical fusion on Wilson, an evaluation prompted by the neck burner injury he experienced last Tuesday in practice. Along with Dr. Russell Warren, the Giants’ team physician, Wilson was given the news he braced for but did not want to hear. (New York Post)|
FFToday's Take: The Giants and Wilson were both prepared for this news, but it doesn't make it any less disheartening. Wilson will receive his scheduled salary of $997,682 when he is officially placed on IR. As for the Giants, they added Rashad Jennings in free agency to be the lead back in 2014 and drafted Andre Williams, who figures to be the goal-line back and take on more carries as a result of Wilson's departure.

|David Wilson, according to the Giants, will not practice for the remainder of the week and will receive a follow-up examination on Aug. 4 at the Hospital for Special Surgery, the same place Wilson received extensive testing last night.

FFToday's Take: The Giants are being very cautious with Wilson (neck) as they should be. His fantasy value will be in limbo until we get the results of his tests on August 4th.

Running back taken to hospital for tests
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Jul 29, 4:43 pm
|New York Giants running back David Wilson left Tuesday's practice with what coach Tom Coughlin called a "burner" -- an alarming diagnosis for a player who only last week was cleared to return to the field following neck surgery. "We were all praying that it would not be an issue, that he would be able to come back and go to work," Coughlin said. "But we'll see." (ESPN)|
FFToday's Take: We'll have to wait for more updates before becoming alarmed by this injury but it's another indication with how much risk comes with taking Wilson in your fantasy drafts this summer. Anything higher than a RB5 is too high a price.

Giants' RB thinks he's ready for football action

|Just got cleared ..... cleared for everything now the story continues. (David Wilson via Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: David Wilson (neck) took to Twitter to announce he's been cleared for football activities. It sounds like Wilson will be able to participate in training camp and if all goes well, will be a compliment to Rashad Jennings once the season begins. Wilson is an explosive player and should start creep up ADP rankings as the summer goes on.

Hoping to get cleared for contact in time for camp
By: Doug Orth | Thu Jun 26, 4:25 pm
|David Wilson is hoping a July 21 exam of his surgically-repaired neck will clear him for contact in time for training camp. Wilson was on the field for OTA and minicamp practices. He took some reps. These were all non-contact practices, but things do happen, and so the team held him out of anything it believed might expose him to any potential contact, just to be safe. As he worked, and watched, Wilson liked what he saw of the new Giants' offense and what it means for him assuming he gets cleared to play in it. (ESPN New York)|
FFToday's Take: Wilson may have liked what he saw from the new offense, but his fumble problems and shortcomings as a pass protector make him a poor fit for it. Unless or until those areas get corrected, Rashad Jennings will likely see the bulk of the work in the backfield for the Giants. As a result of his weaknesses and uncertain physical status, he is an end-of-draft option at best.

Giants running back recovering from neck injury
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Jun 24, 7:00 am
|“David Wilson is an explosive player, but first and foremost we’re concerned about his health. We do think all systems are go pretty much for him to be healthy and ready for contact during training camp. We held him out for spring, no contact at all, but unless he has a setback we expect to release him for full contact during the fall." (CBS New York)|
FFToday's Take: Giants GM Jerry Reese seems optimistic on Wilson's recovery but considering Reese also referred to Rashad Jennings as a "bell cow type running back" it appears Wilson is headed for a change of pace role in the Giants new offense. Wilson is also expected to help out on special teams.

Will be re-evaluated prior to training camp
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Jun 4, 2:34 pm
|David Wilson’s wait continues, but today he took another significant step closer toward a full return to the football field. “There has been significant progress and healing since David had the fusion,” said Dr. Russell Warren, the Giants’ team physician. “But the reality is it has only been four and one-half months since the surgery. We anticipate that when David is re-evaluated at the start of training camp he will be cleared at that point.” (Giants.com)|
FFToday's Take: Giants training camp begins July 21st so that will be our next check-in point on Wilson. The Giants have added Rashad Jennings and rookie Andre Williams to the running back mix and have kept plodder Peyton Hillis... for now. Wilson is arguably more talented than any of the Giants RBs but he's likely headed for a timeshare with Jennings and Williams when he gets medical clearance.
