Browns Wk 14 QB remains a mystery -- Wed Dec 4 1:10 pm --
Campbell and Weeden not cleared for practice
Browns coach Rob Chudzinski announced Wednesday morning he'll wait until later in the week to name his starting quarterback for the Patriots, because Jason Campbell and Brandon Weeden have not yet been cleared to practice. (Plain Dealer)
FF Today's Take: Alex Tanney and newly signed Caleb Hanie will get the reps at QB on Wednesday. This is a situation to monitor for owners of WR Josh Gordon and TE Jordan Cameron. If Campbell or Weeden don't receive clearance, the value of the Browns two main pass receivers will take a hit.
Weeden played with concussion -- Sun Dec 1 7:10 pm --
Symptoms revealed after the game
Brandon Weeden was diagnosed with a concussion after the game. Team spokesman Zak Gilbert didn't know when the concussion occurred and said Weeden reported his symptoms after the loss. He'll now go through the NFL's stringent concussion protocol. (Cleveland Plain Dealer)
FF Today's Take: It's not known when Weeden suffered a concussion but he did finish the game. Jason Campbell is also dealing with a concussion making Alex Tanney the only healthy QB on the roster at the moment. It's likely Campbell will be ready to play in Week 14.
Campbell leaves with head injury -- Sun Nov 24 5:00 pm --
Replaced by Brandon Weeden
Browns quarterback Jason Campbell left Sunday's 27-11 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers with a head injury. Campbell suffered the injury with 7:46 remaining in the third quarter after he took a shot to the head from blitzing cornerback William Gay. Brandon Weeden replaced Campbell, leaving the Browns with one active quarterback. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take: If Campbell can't pass his concussion tests this week, then Brandon Weeden would get the start in Week 13 against the Jaguars. Weeden went 13-30 for 209 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT in relief of Campbell.
Jason Campbell will start for Browns -- Wed Oct 23 10:30 am --
Browns make a change at QB
Browns HC Chud said Jason Campbell will start at QB for Browns. (Mary Kay Cabot)
FF Today's Take: Brandon Weeden or Campbell will not be a recommended fantasy play as the Browns play on the road against Kansas City. Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron owners can raise an eyebrow but unless you have better options, they should remain in your lineup.
Hoyer leaves with knee injury -- Thu Oct 3 10:30 pm --
Browns QB exits in first quarter
Brian Hoyer hobbled out on crutches and wearing a full brace on his right leg and didn't put any weight on it. Coach Rob Chudzinski told NFL Network at halftime that he feared Hoyer might have torn ligaments in the knee. (Cleveland Plain Dealer)
FF Today's Take: Brandon Weeden was forced into action as Hoyer limped off the field. Hoyer will have an MRI on Friday to determine the extent of the damage. Best case scenario is a knee sprain.
Hoyer to draw third straight start -- Mon Sep 30 3:40 pm --
Weeden cleared, but team opting to stick with Hoyer for now
|Brian Hoyer is on a roll, and the Browns aren't about to stop it. HC Rob Chudzinski ended any mystery - if there was any - on Monday by naming Hoyer the starting quarterback for Thursday night's game against the Buffalo Bills. With two wins in two starts since replacing injured Brandon Weeden, Hoyer is the first Browns QB to win his first two starts since Mark Rypien in 1994.
FF Today's Take: There's no way of knowing if Weeden was capable of pulling a Hoyer since he didn't have the benefit of playing with Josh Gordon, but it probably doesn't matter at this point. It's much too early to say after two games, but it is quite possible that Chudzinski has found his second unlikely project quarterback after guiding Derek Anderson to a Pro Bowl season in 2007.
Hoyer to get second straight start -- Wed Sep 25 10:55 am --
Brandon Weeden ruled out
Cleveland Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer will make his second straight start this week against the Cincinnati Bengals. Filling in for an injured Brandon Weeden, Hoyer led the Browns to a 31-27 win on Sunday at Minnesota. (AP)
FF Today's Take: The Browns got the win in Week 3 but Hoyer also tossed three interceptions. Weeden (thumb) has been ruled out meaning Jason Campbell will be the backup in Week 4. The Browns have a tough matchup against the Bengals so don't expect another 3-TD explosion from Hoyer.
Hoyer to start at QB for Browns -- Wed Sep 18 9:15 am --
Jason Campbell passed over
The Cleveland Browns will start Brian Hoyer at quarterback against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, the team announced through its Twitter account. Brandon Weeden suffered a sprained right thumb last Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. He has been sacked 11 times in two games this season. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take: Jason Campbell has been demoted to No.3 on the QB depth chart. Hoyer started one game for the Cardinals last season. Outside the TE Jordan Cameron, the Browns offense has struggled over the first couple weeks. The Vikings defense will be a good play on Sunday.
Brandon Weeden's status uncertain -- Sun Sep 15 10:00 pm --
|Brandon Weeden suffered the injury when he smacked his throwing hand against a helmet. Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said X-rays on Weeden’s thumb were negative.
“It was tough to put pressure on the ball,” Weeden said. “It hurts. Doesn’t feel too good.”
(Akron Beacon Journal)|
FF Today's Take: Jason Campbell would start if Weeden can't go in Week 3. Both QBs are off the fantasy radar. Weeden has one TD and three INTs in two games.
