|After a rookie season in which he barely saw the field, Powell was marginally productive in 2011, gaining 437 yards on 110 carries while scoring four touchdowns. A decent receiver, Powell also caught 17 passes for 140 yards. The issue with the Jets’ 2011 fourth-round pick out of Louisville is that he doesn't really do anything very well. He's not that quick, not that shifty, doesn't have enough size to move the pile and lacks breakaway speed. What he does have is a pair of question marks ahead of him on the depth chart, and that's what makes him an intriguing fantasy option in 2013. Neither Chris Ivory nor Mike Goodson has been able to stay healthy, and Goodson had a disastrous offseason that could see him jettisoned from the roster or subjected to league suspension at some point during the season. Monitor Powell in the preseason to determine if he is worth a late round flier in your league.
| RB Goodson has torn ACL, MCL -- Mon Oct 14 11:00 am --|
Out for the year
|Mike Goodson's season ended only two weeks after it began.
The New York Jets' running back tweeted Monday that he tore the ACL and MCL in his left knee in the 19-6 loss Sunday to the Pittsburgh Steelers. (ESPN)|
FF Today's Take: Goodson was part of Jets' RBBC that also includes Bilal Powell and Chris Ivory. Ivory should a slight bump in opportunities on third down but his fantasy value remains minimal.
| Ivory to miss time with hamstring injury -- Mon Sep 23 10:00 pm --|
Bilal Powell will be Jets starter
|The New York Jets might not have the services of Chris Ivory for some time.
ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini reported Monday that the Jets are "not expecting a quick rebound" after Ivory re-injured his hamstring during Sunday's 27-20 win over the Buffalo Bills. It is the same hamstring Ivory hurt on the first day of training camp, but the strain is in a different spot. The initial hamstring injury wiped out a good portion of his training camp, and the Jets are prepared for a similar absence this time around. (NFL.com)|
FF Today's Take: Ivory isn't doing anything to shake his injury-prone label. Bilal Powell will be a nice, low-end RB2 moving forward.
| Powell shines after Ivory's injury -- Mon Sep 23 6:10 pm --|
Ex-Saint sidelined by another hamstring injury
|Before training camp, Bilal Powell was projected as the No. 3 running back, behind Chris Ivory and Mike Goodson. It changed quickly when Ivory hurt his hamstring and Goodson didn't show because of off-the-field issues. Powell 's career day in Week 3 - 149 rushing yards, including 109 in the second half - began on the bench, as Ivory got the start. Ivory lasted only four plays before he injured his "good" hamstring, setting it up for Powell. (ESPN)|
FF Today's Take: Per ESPN New York's Rich Cimini, the injury is to the same leg Ivory pulled his hamstring on the first day of training camp. The new injury is in a different spot, but Ivory took several weeks to recover from the initial one and probably will again this time around. The Jets face the Titans and Falcons over their next two games before squaring off with the Steelers and Patriots. Powell figures to remain a flex option in all but the most favorable matchups until Ivory and/or Goodson return.
