2018 Outlook
Depth Chart
Powell has quietly been the best running back for the Jets over the past three seasons and a viable fantasy asset while averaging 8.5 fantasy points per game dating back to 2015. Although the seven-year NFL vet has yet to rush for more than 1000 yards in a season or receiver more than 178 rushes in a campaign, he continues to be a reliable flex option with excellent receiving skills.

Despite his success running the ball during that span (4.7 yard per carry average), the New York front office and coaching staff do not view Powell as an every-down back, as evident by the signing of Isaiah Crowell this offseason to a three-year contract. Crowell will be the first and second down back, with Powell acting as the change of pace and sharing passing down duties with Elijah McGuire.

Should Crowell continue to underwhelm as he did last season in Cleveland, Powell and McGuire could see a more active role as the season progresses. Until that occurs, neither player has much value outside of a flex start, and the New York ground game might be better off avoided.

Injury Isaiah Crowell expected to play
Ankle injury
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 14, 1:00 am

New York Jets
New York Jets running back Isaiah Crowell is expected to play against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Crowell is listed as questionable because of an ankle injury but should be able to suit up after rushing for a team-record 219 yards and a touchdown last week against Denver. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Crowell missed practice Wednesday and Thursday and was limited on Friday. Crowell and Bilal Powell have basically split the running back workload this season with Powell seeing 6 more receptions in the pass game. Powell is probably the safer bet of the two, but his upside is capped if Crowell sees a full complement of snaps.

Injury Isaiah Crowell will be a gametime decision
Ankle injury
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 12, 12:30 pm

New York Jets
Isaiah Crowell (ankle) was limited today and is listed as questionable. Game-time decision. Leonard Williams (back) was full. Buster Skrine (concussion) ruled out. #Jets (Rich Cimini on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Crowell missed practice Wednesday and Thursday and was limited on Friday. If he sits, Bilal Powell would likely start and be a solid RB2 against the Colts.

Isaiah Crowell poised to play big role
RB has impressed with speed, receiving ability
By: Doug Orth | Thu Aug 2, 9:00 pm

New York Jets
RB Isaiah Crowell is faster than I expected. He's a better receiver than Bowles expected. He'll be a big factor. (ESPN - Rich Cimini)

FFToday's Take: Crowell never consistently quite got the workload owners expected (or that HC Hue Jackson promised on a regular basis), but he has a grand opportunity to do so in New York. The Jets have seemingly identified Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire as change-of-pace backs, so there's no reason Crowell can't top 200 carries as the likely only "big back" on the roster.

Injury Elijah McGuire suffers foot injury
Will require surgery
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Jul 28, 2:56 pm

New York Jets
Jets RB Elijah McGuire, who figured to have a key role in the backfield, has suffered a fracture in his foot, source said. He’s going to require surgery and will miss an extended period. Depending on how long, he could be a candidate to return off Injured Reserve. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: McGuire was in the mix as part of the Jets three-headed running back by committee but he will unfortunately miss some if not most of the season. As a result he can be removed from consideration in redraft leagues. Alfred Morris and Orleans Darkwa have scheduled visits with New York. Bilal Powell gets a slight boost in value on the news.
