2014 Outlook
Depth Chart
There was hardly a better fantasy player after the first four weeks of the 2013 season than Jordan Cameron. The athletic tight end that was expected to break out under tight end guru Norv Turner started off blazing hot with a 30-360-5 line by Week 5. But as the season wore on, Josh Gordon began to impose his will and the passing game was siphoned through him. Cameron tallied only two more touchdowns in the final 12 games and exceeded 10 targets only once. With Gordon suspended, Cameron immediately becomes option No. 1 in the Cleveland passing game. As the only threat running around in the secondary, Cameron is going to get plenty of attention. Expect defensive coordinators with lockdown corners to deploy them to cover Cameron when he goes out wide, much like the Patriots did with great effectiveness with Jimmy Graham last year. Luckily not many teams have corners able to cover Cameron's size-speed combination, and despite the loss of Turner, scheming tight ends open is something offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan has experience doing. Even with the added defensive focus and unsettled quarterback position, Cameron has the talent, scheme and opportunity to approach his season totals from last season, even with less overall variance in scoring on a weekly basis. Plug Cameron in as an upper-tier TE1 and don't look back.

Comment: Cameron will be facing double teams on most passing downs this season.

Injury Jordan Cameron active, Bernard Pierce Out
Ravens without starting running back
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Sep 21, 11:35 am

Cleveland Browns
Jordan Cameron will in fact be active today. Bernard Pierce is inactive for the Ravens (Jason LaCanfora via Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Cameron can be inserted into fantasy lineups with the understanding that his shoulder could easily be re-aggravated. With Pierce out, Justin Forsett will handle more of the rushing load with Lorenzo Taliaferro working in a backup role.

Injury Jordan Cameron limited Friday, Questionable

Cleveland Browns
Browns TE Jordan Cameron and LB Barkevious Mingo (shoulders) were limited today and they're questionable for ravens. (Mary Kay Cabot via Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Cameron was limited on Thursday as well and will be a gametime decision. It's hard to get excited about Cameron as a fantasy play given the risk of re-aggravating his shoulder injury. Jim Dray and Gary Barnidge would fill in for Cameron if he sits.

Injury Jordan Cameron limited Thursday
Likely questionable at best for Week 3
By: Doug Orth | Thu Sep 18, 3:50 pm

Cleveland Browns
Browns OC Kyle Shanahan said TE Jordan Cameron (shoulder) was "very limited" today. "It can go either way." (Mary Kay Cabot on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Cameron sat last week after leaving early in Week 1. With the Browns on a bye in Week 4, it makes a ton of sense to give their talented tight end another two weeks to get his shoulder right. Cleveland doesn't have anything close to a Cameron clone on the roster, so Andrew Hawkins and Miles Austin should continue to see their fair share of targets against the Ravens.

Injury Jordan Cameron not expected to play
Shoulder injury
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Sep 14, 7:00 am

Cleveland Browns
Cleveland Browns tight end Jordan Cameron is not expected to play Sunday against the New Orleans Saints due to a shoulder injury, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Cameron missed practice all week. Gary Barnidge and Jim Dray are likely to see more reps at the tight end position but neither is a recommended fantasy play.

Injury Cameron misses practice, questionable

Cleveland Browns
Browns Jordan Cameron and Mingo are questionable for Saints with shoulder injuries. (Mary Kay Cabot via Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Cameron has missed practice all week but the fact the Browns have listed him as questionable means they believe there's an outside chance he will play. Still, you should be making other plans for your tight end position this weekend. Gary Barnidge would likely see increased opportunities but won't be on the fantasy radar.

Injury No update on Ben Tate, Jordan Cameron
Injuries caused both players to miss time in Week 1
By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 8, 4:45 pm

Cleveland Browns
HC Mike Pettine said he doesn't have injury updates on RB Ben Tate (knee) or TE Jordan Cameron (shoulder). (Nate Ulrich on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Injuries that keep players from returning to game action that week typically do not bode well for their status the following week. Tate's injury-history is well-chronicled and should make Terrance West - if not Isaiah Crowell - attractive free-agent or trade targets this week. Jim Dray and Gary Barnidge filled in for Cameron following his departure, but neither player is worthy of fantasy consideration.

Josh Gordon to miss the 2014 season
Appeal denied
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Aug 27, 1:35 pm

Cleveland Browns
Josh Gordon will miss the entire 2014 season after the NFL upheld the Cleveland Browns star's yearlong suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. "I'd like to apologize to my teammates, coaches, the Cleveland Browns organization and our fans," Gordon said. "I am very disappointed that the NFL and its hearing office didn't exercise better discretion and judgment in my case." (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Finally. You can cross Gordon of your re-draft cheatsheet for this season. The league will determine at a later date when Gordon is eligible to be reinstated. Miles Austin, Andrew Hawkins, and tight end Jordan Cameron will be the top three targets for the Browns' quarterbacks. Outside of Cameron, fantasy owners can avoid the Browns passing game.

Cameron locked in as prime target for Browns
Question marks at WR figure to make him go-to option
By: Doug Orth | Mon Jul 21, 5:00 pm

Cleveland Browns
There are three reasons for Jordan Cameron to be the most popular Browns player in fantasy leagues. One, his breakout 2013 season signaled his maturity as an NFL playmaker. Two, the teamís sorry situation at wideout makes Cameron a No. 1 read in the passing game. Three, heís playing to secure his future financially in his contract year. The key to Cameronís 2013 season was keeping himself on the field and out of the trainerís room. If he can do it again, he will lead the team in receptions, yards and touchdown catches. (ESPN Cleveland)

FFToday's Take: Cameron represents something of a double-edged sword for fantasy owners in 2014. Will the fact that he is the No. 1 option in the passing game allow him to post receiver-like numbers? Or will the bevy of double teams, physical coverage, schemes or the Browns' run-heavy offense bring his production down? He should be a solid fantasy TE1 option in all redraft leagues, but his case is not as open-and-shut as it appears on the surface without Josh Gordon around.

Cameron "impossible to cover" during spring
Reportedly showing improved footwork and explosion
By: Doug Orth | Mon Jun 30, 3:40 pm

Cleveland Browns
Browns TE Jordan Cameron was impossible to cover in the spring. Maybe itís just mundane OTAs and minicamp. Or maybe Cameron, 25, is still improving as a dual-threat receiver who can line up anywhere; a scary thought. Last season, the Browns targeted Cameron 117 times. Only Jimmy Graham and Tony Gonzalez saw more passes slung their way. Comparing the film, the 6-foot-5, 249-pound Cameron has shown improved foot work and explosion in the open field once he has the football. (

FFToday's Take: Cameron could very well be improving as a receiver, but he's going to be hard-pressed to repeat last year's success given the likely year-long absence of Josh Gordon, which will allow defenses to focus all of their attention on him. It also doesn't figure to help him that QB Johnny Manziel will likely move ahead of Brian Hoyer at some point this season. One other note: five of Cameron's seven touchdowns last season came in the first four weeks.
