2015 Outlook
Depth Chart
DeMarco Murray enters 2015 as the reigning NFL rushing champion after posting a career high 1845 rushing yards in his final season with the Cowboys. Now a member of the Eagles after signing a lucrative free agent deal in the offseason, Murray’s value has taken a significant hit due to the fact that the Eagles also signed former Chargers’ running back Ryan Mathews to help carry the load. Veteran tailback Darren Sproles is also in the mix as a change-of-pace and third-down back, adding to the reduction in value for Murray.

It remains to be seen how the division of carries will be handled by head coach Chip Kelly and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. A 60-40 split is possible for first and second down carries, with Sproles working in on third downs. The one certainty about Murray is that he will not reach his 393 carry total from last season that allowed him to post eight-straight 100-yard games to open the season, unless Mathews sustains an injury that forces the Eagles to rely on one back. Although Murray’s value is down from what it was at the end of last season, he is still worthy of an early round selection and could be a nice low-end number one running back for fantasy owners in 2015.

Murray on the way out in Philly?
Eagles, RB "not in a good place"
By: Doug Orth | Thu Feb 4, 6:50 pm

Philadelphia Eagles
A coaching change hasn't improved the situation for Eagles RB DeMarco Murray. Even with Chip Kelly being sent packing and the hire of coach Doug Pederson, the former NFL rushing leader and his team are not in a good place. In fact, Eagles and Murray appear headed toward a stare-down regarding his future with the organization, according to several sources informed of the situation. The division boils down to: Murray's unsuccessful 2015 campaign during which he rushed for only 702 yards, the Eagles' lack of conviction that he's the right back and the massive contract Murray signed last offseason. (NFL.com)

FFToday's Take: A trade is probably out of the question for Murray, who signed a five-year, $40 million deal last offseason. Also working against Murray is his age (he'll turn 28 in mid-February and injury history. Furthermore, Ryan Mathews is a more-than-capable back when healthy and about half as expensive as the ex-Cowboy. If Murray is still on the Eagles' roster next season, he will likely be sharing carries with Murray and should be considered no more than a low-end RB2.

Report: Eagles to name Doug Pederson Head Coach
Former QB and Eagles assistant under Andy Reid
By: Doug Orth | Thu Jan 14, 6:15 pm

Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles will hire former quarterback and assistant coach Doug Pederson as head coach in a nod by owner Jeffrey Lurie to the success and environment that the team had under Andy Reid. An NFL source confirmed the hiring Thursday. Pederson has been Reid's offensive coordinator with the Kansas City Chiefs for the last three seasons. Before going to Kansas City, he was Reid's quarterbacks coach in Philadelphia after starting as a quality control coach. They must wait for the Chiefs to be eliminated from the postseason to bring him to Philadelphia. (Philly.com)

FFToday's Take: Pederson isn't a splashy hire by any stretch, but his work in Kansas City - along with Reid - during the Chiefs' 11-game winning streak without Jamaal Charles probably helped him seal the deal as much as his background with the Eagles. Pederson has generally run conservative offenses in his relatively short time as an assistant, which means DeMarco Murray could resume his workhorse ways in 2016.

Darren Sproles to be featured RB?
Uncertainty surrounds DeMarco Murray
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Dec 13, 7:15 am

Philadelphia Eagles
After a troubling week, #Eagles have weighed all options with DeMarco Murray, even sitting him. Either way, Darren Sproles will be featured. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: DeMarco Murray appears to be digging his grave in Philadelphia. He hasn't been a good fit for Chip Kelly's east-west running offense and Kelly refuses to scheme plays that fit Murray's North-South style. Sproles makes for an interesting DFS play and a solid FLEX, RB2 play is season-long leagues. Ryan Mathews should also see action.

DeMarco Murray rumored for Dallas return?
"A lot of truth" to Eagles RB wanting to head back to Big D in 2016
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Fri Dec 11, 8:50 am

Philadelphia Eagles
Despite what Eagles running back DeMarco Murray said to reporters on Thursday, the evidence suggests that he’d like to get out of Philly. There’s a growing feeling that he’d like to return to Dallas. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, there’s “a lot of truth” to the notion that Murray would like to play for the Cowboys again. (Pro Football Talk)

FFToday's Take: A third-round pick of the Cowboys in 2011, Murray set a franchise single-season rushing record with 1,845 yards in 2014. He also was named the league’s offensive player of the year. He's a better fit in Dallas than in Chip Kelly's lateral system, but he's currently in a five-year, $40 million deal with the Eagles. Dynasty leaguers may even want to trade for Murray on the cheap in anticipation of a possible return to Big D in 2016.

DeMarco Murray a non-factor again in Week 13
Lost 47 of 61 snaps to Darren Sproles and Kenjon Barner
By: Doug Orth | Mon Dec 7, 4:40 pm

Philadelphia Eagles
No big deal, Chip Kelly said. Watching the game it sure felt like a big deal. Struggling DeMarco Murray, last year’s NFL rushing leader, clearly appeared to be demoted Sunday, his workload reduced to just eight carries in the Eagles’ upset win over the Patriots at Gillette Stadium. Murray played only 14 of 61 snaps Sunday after averaging 36 snaps before Sunday. His previous low this season was 25 vs. the Redskins. With Murray benched most of the game, the Eagles used Darren Sproles and Kenjon Barner to carry the fooball. (CSN Philly)

FFToday's Take: Kelly explained the carry split by saying he believed that the smaller, faster Barner and Sproles would be better matchups for the Eagles against the Patriots’ larger linebackers. He also said on Monday that he plans on evaluating his running back rotation on a "week-to-week basis" going forward. It's looking more and more as if Kelly might be willing to feature Ryan Mathews, who has missed the last three games, down the stretch if can be cleared of his concussion soon.

Injury Bradford, Mathews out for the Eagles
Both suffered concussions in Week 10.
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Nov 20, 12:15 pm

Philadelphia Eagles
Already facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers without quarterback Sam Bradford, the team will be without running back Ryan Mathews due to a concussion, the team announced. Left tackle Jason Peters (back) is also questionable. (NFL.com)

FFToday's Take: As expected, Mark Sanchez will get the start at quarterback while DeMarco Murray, Darren Sproles and Kenjon Barner will handle the running back duties. Murray's workload may not increase all that much with Mathews out but he may get an extra opportunity or two around the goaline.

Injury Bradford, Mathews miss practice Thursday
Both suffered concussion in Week 10
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Nov 19, 11:45 am

Philadelphia Eagles
Chip Kelly said that Sam Bradford and Ryan Mathews haven't cleared concussion protocol to practice. Jason Peters won't practice either. (Jeff McLane on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Mark Sanchez is expected to start with Bradford suffering a concussion and shoulder injury in Week 10. He's a decent streamer option against a defense giving up the tenth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks. If Mathews sits, most analysts are expecting DeMarco Murray to absorb more action but Kenyon Barner will be active which may cut into Murray's expected bump in workload.
