2014 Outlook
Depth Chart
The lone bright spot on offense for the Ravens in 2013 was the continued growth and development of Torrey Smith. Posting career highs in targets, catches and yards, Smith demonstrated an improved polish to his game by expanding his route tree and ability to read defensive coverage. The fact that he was able to provide WR2 numbers on an offense that was as poor as the Ravens is impressive alone. He was able to maintain an elite 17.4 yards-per-catch average, despite the additional defensive attention. His ability to get open deep saved him from his mediocre touchdown total at four. Because he and Joe Flacco connect so well on the deep ball, Smith is always a good bet for a monster game or two through the year, but he lacks the refinement and physical tools that made Andre Johnson a stud in this version of the Gary Kubiak offense. Look for Smith's development to continue as he learns from the team's other veteran pass catchers. As his role adjusts in the new offense and he takes on more routes closer to the line of scrimmage, expect his catch total and touchdowns to rise slightly, but his yardage total to dip. His talent, offensive system and responsibilities mean Smith should be a good bet to continue to provide lower-tier WR2 or upper-tier WR3 value.

Comment: It's a good bet that Smith will post a career high in receptions in Gary Kubiak's offense.

Justin Forsett poised for bounceback game
Ravens RB says disappointing Week 15 due to Jags stacking box
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Dec 16, 10:18 am

Baltimore Ravens
Ravens running back Justin Forsett encountered some tough sledding Sunday against his old team. During a 20-12 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars at M&T Bank Stadium, Forsett had trouble finding room to run. He didn't gain much traction, rushing for only 48 yards on 16 carries. It marked Forsett's lowest rushing total since a Nov. 2 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, when he was held to a season-low 38 yards on nine carries. The Jaguars regularly deployed eight and nine defenders to crowd the line of scrimmage and prevent Forsett from breaking free downfield. Ranked third in the NFL with 1,128 rushing yards for the season, Forsett averaged just three yards per carry Sunday with a long run of six yards. “Their mindset coming in was to stop the run,” said Forsett, who was cut by the Jaguars last spring after one injury-plagued season in Jacksonville in which he rushed for 31 yards on six carries. “They were a physical bunch. They’ve got a great front seven and they did a good job. The box and safeties were down, but it was a good challenge for us. (Baltimore Sun)

FFToday's Take: With WR Torrey Smith banged up and Steve Smith, Sr. pretty quiet the past few weeks, this was a strategy that made sense for Jacksonville. He'll likely resume his normal workload and have better results facing the reeling Texans in Week 16.

Injury DeSean Jackson, Torrey Smith both active
Questionable wide receivers will play

Washington Redskins
Ravens WR Torrey Smith officially active. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Both Smith (knee) and DeSean Jackson (leg) were considered very questionable leading up to Sunday. Smith looked shaky during practice this week and will be a risky play in Week 15. Jackson should be a little closer to 100%.

Injury Torrey Smith running at half-speed Friday
Gametime decision
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 12, 1:10 pm

Baltimore Ravens
avens wide receiver Torrey Smith returned to practice Friday, but didn't look like he was anywhere close to his usual form.. Smith was characterized as a game-time decision by coach John Harbaugh. Smith was favoring his sprained right knee, wearing a brace and looking gimpy and uncomfortable running pass patterns at half-speed. (Baltimore Sun)

FFToday's Take: This doesn't sound promising. Smith was active last week but only played 15 snaps and wasn't targeted. Unless something drastic occurs, expect Smith to be Inactive and Steve Smith to get plenty of looks on Sunday.

Injury Forsett, Torrey Smith miss Thursday practice
Knee injuries
By: Doug Orth | Thu Dec 4, 7:45 pm

Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens were again without two key skill-position players on Thursday, as RB Justin Forsett and WR Torrey Smith sat out the club’s second workout of the week with knee injuries. The Ravens’ leading rusher, Forsett previously indicated he believes he will play. And on Thursday, Smith said his knee was healing, according to Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun. (Pro Football Talk)

FFToday's Take: The Ravens’ final major practice of the week is Friday, with the injury report also to be released tomorrow. By then, there could be more clarity on the statuses of both players for Sunday’s game at Miami. For now, it obviously looks good for both players, although the age-old advice of owners needing to be prepared for alternate options obviously applies.
