2017 Outlook
Depth Chart
Smith spent two seasons wasting away in the dumpster fire that is the San Francisco 49ers organization, fading away from fantasy relevancy with 53 catches and seven touchdowns over 27 games.

After signing a three-year, $15 million contract with the Eagles over the off-season, Smith has once again emerged as a viable flex play in deeper leagues as the likely deep threat for quarterback Carson Wentz.

Owners looking for Smith to return to his 100-plus target days back in 2013 in Baltimore will surely be disappointed, as there are too many mouths to feed in the passing game with Alshon Jeffery, Jordan Matthews, and Zach Ertz also vying for passes. But it is feasible for Smith to garner close to 50 targets, especially nine-routes and posts to stretch the defense, making him a home run play based on matchups.

Zach Ertz confident heading into regular season
Philly TE expects to see more targets
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Sep 6, 10:36 am

Philadelphia Eagles
With defenses paying attention to Jeffery and Smith on the outside, Ertz believes he’ll have more room to work in the middle of the field. “I’ll probably have more targets with Torrey and Alshon,” Ertz said, via Philly.com. “I think that’s the reason you bring in those guys because [defenses] are not able to focus primarily on one area of the field, with where in the past … since [Jeremy] Maclin left, we’ve been an inside-the-numbers team.” (ProFootballTalk)

FFToday's Take: Philadelphia focused on retooling their passing game this offseason and they look primed to improve in 2017. Zach Ertz, Alshon Jeffery and even Torrey Smith should all benefit from the Eagles' pass heavy offense (PHI finished with sixth most passing attempts in 2016) as Carson Wentz continues to get better in his second season as the starter.

Jordan Matthews headed to Buffalo
Bills shakeup wide receiver group
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Aug 11, 1:45 pm

Buffalo Bills
The Eagles made a shocking move on Friday, trading away wide receiver Jordan Matthews and a third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft to the Buffalo Bills for cornerback Ronald Darby, the team announced Friday. (NJ.com)

FFToday's Take: The Bills have made significant changes to the wide receiver group over the last few days by acquiring Anquan Boldin, Mathews and trading star Sammy Watkins to the Rams. The Eagles have been talking up Nelson Agholor all pre-season and now it seems he's in line for the starting slot position with Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith on the outside. Matthews should step into the starting lineup in Buffalo and will see boost in fantasy value.

Jordan Matthews at risk of losing snaps?
Nelson Agholor enjoying strong camp
By: Doug Orth | Mon Aug 7, 5:40 pm

Philadelphia Eagles
The speculation that Jordan Matthews will lose playing time at slot wide receiver to Nelson Agholor was not quieted by offensive coordinator Frank Reich, who said Monday that the plan at the position “is a little bit different than last year.” “Right now, the whole receiver room is more competitive. ... So yeah, I think it is a little bit different than last year. I don’t know how it’s going to play out. Is it going to be a reduced role? Is it not? ... That’s going to be determined … by how he plays and how things play out in that room competitively,” Reich said. (Philadelphia Inquirer)

FFToday's Take: Reich suggested Matthews can play outside and there will be four-wide packages on occasion, but he also said he doesn't want to take his tight ends off the field either. Considering the team added Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith before Agholor's "awakening", Matthews very much appears to be in a fight for playing time. Owners would be wise to consider him a low-eend WR4 at best and start considering Agholor at the end of drafts.
