2018 Outlook
Depth Chart
I couldn't be less excited to write this preview about Andy Dalton. He's the definition of an average quarterback, as he's really only as good as the players around him, and other than A.J. Green, those players have been just average. With a dreadful offensive line, inconsistent running game, and no players other than Green in the passing game, Dalton "led" Cincinnati to a 7-9 season and saw his yardage and completion percentage drop precipitously. Some positive regression in touchdowns was expected after only throwing 18 in 2016, and his 25 passing scores was 10th best in the NFL, but no matter how you stretch the stats, Dalton just doesn't move the fantasy needle.

The move to Bill Lazor early last season seemed to help some, but Dalton efficiency wasn't good, coming in under 60% completions in 10 of the 16 games. He also became extremely touchdown dependent with only a single game above 300 yards. I do expect this offense to be better overall this year with a full off-season in Lazor's system. Cinci also made improvements on the line in the draft and free agency, and you have to think former 1st round pick John Ross will snag at least 1 reception this year, which would be a 100% improvement over the zero he had as a rookie. All in all, I do think this team will be more competitive this season, and the additions on offense should help Dalton's efficiency and production, but expecting more than fantasy backup level production from Dalton is a fallacy.

Injury A.J. Green says he'll play Sunday
Missed three weeks with toe injury
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Nov 28, 11:00 am

Cincinnati Bengals
All is semi-right with Bengaldom now that A.J. Green (toe) says he’ll play Sunday (1 p.m.-Cincinnati’s Channel 12) against the Broncos at Paul Brown Stadium. After losing all three games with him out, as well as quarterback Andy Dalton (thumb) for the year, Green says there’s no way he’d miss games even though they’ve dipped from 5-3 to 5-6 since he last touched the ball. “I’m playing. I don’t care if we’re 0-15,” Green said before Wednesday’s practice … (Bengals.com)

FFToday's Take: The Bengals haven't been the same since Green injured his foot in Week 8. With Jeff Driskel at quarterback the Bengals offense will need all the help they can get. Green projects as a WR2 in a matchup with the Broncos in Week 13.

Injury Andy Dalton done for the season
Thumb injury
By: Doug Orth | Mon Nov 26, 8:05 pm

Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals just placed QB Andy Dalton on Injured Reserve, ending his season with this thumb injury. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Tom Savage was claimed off waivers in a corresponding move, and he'll serve as the primary backup to Jeff Driskel. Dalton wasn't exactly burning it up in 2018, but his injury comes at a bad time since A.J. Green is expected back in Week 13. Driskel may have some two-quarterback/superflex league appeal, but he can be left on waivers in most leagues.

Injury A.J. Green in walking boot Tuesday
Veteran WR has a Week 9 bye but injury timetable not yet defined
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Oct 30, 1:25 pm

Cincinnati Bengals
Paul Dehner Jr. on Twitter: "A.J. Green just came through the locker room with his right foot in a boot. He hurt it on last play Sunday. Obv, could be precautionary." (Twitter)

FFToday's Take: This certainly will be an injury to monitor coming out of the Week 9 bye, as Green is a huge part of the Bengals offense and his absence could affect the entire unit, from Andy Dalton and Tyler Boyd to Joe Mixon's effectiveness with defenses shadowing Green. Stay tuned.
