2015 Outlook
Depth Chart
If not for hand and knee injuries, Mark Ingram would have likely finished as a top-10 fantasy running back in 2014. That is why the team inked him to a new four-year deal, despite the fact he failed to produce in the first three years of his career. With little competition for carries and a team hoping to lean on a more effective rushing game, Ingram provides plenty of RB2 upside despite being an injury risk. His YPC has always been strong and he should be able to build upon last season’s 4.3 YPC mark if the team commits to one primary rusher. Unlike many other NFL backfields, Ingram shouldn’t lose many touches to other runners, especially near the goal line. C.J. Spiller is a capable second-string runner, but he will complement Ingram more than he competes with him for touches in this offense. Further down the depth chart, Khiry Robinson adds even more pressure and motivation for Ingram to match or exceed his totals from a year ago in the first year of his new deal. He also has the ability to pad his stats with a couple of catches per game, but he may not be asked to do as much this season with Spiller in the fold.

Spiller a good bet to remain on the roster?
Will be cheaper to keep than to cut prior to June 1
By: Doug Orth | Mon Feb 1, 7:25 pm

New Orleans
C.J. Spiller's first year in New Orleans was a flop, partly because of a minor knee surgery he underwent during training camp. But if the Saints cut him before June 1, he will actually count more against the cap ($5.3 million) than if they keep him. So there's a good chance they'll give him another summer to regain his spark. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: With Mark Ingram, Spiller, Khiry Robinson and Tim Hightower among others on the roster, the expectation is the Saints will be able to "downsize" at running back this season. There is still much mystery as to why Spiller became such an afterthought in his first year in New Orleans. An injury-free offseason will be huge for Spiller, who could be a late-round fantasy value this summer if he is able to seize the Darren Sproles/Pierre Thomas role many thought he might earn last year.

Tim Hightower to assume Ingram's role
Spiller's role to remain unchanged
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Dec 13, 10:12 am

New Orleans
With the injury to #Saints RB Mark Ingram, I'm told to expect Tim Hightower to step in for him. CJ Spiller's workload likely to be unchanged (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The Saints coaching staff trusts Hightower's ability in pass protection more than Spiller and as a result he's likely to see more reps on the field. Hightower is an RB2 against a decent Tampa Bay run defense.

Injury Cooks misses practice Thursday with concussion
Injury likely suffered in Wednesday practice
By: Doug Orth | Thu Dec 10, 5:40 pm

New Orleans
The New Orleans Saints might be heading into Tampa with a beaten and battered offense. WR Brandin Cooks, who leads the Saints in all main receiving categories, missed practice Thursday due to a concussion, a new injury for the receiver. In addition, LT Terron Armstead (knee), RG Jahri Evans (ankle) and RT Zach Strief (shoulder) all missed practice due to injury. (The Advocate)

FFToday's Take: The blog makes no mention of Willie Snead, who missed last week with a calf injury, or Mark Ingram, who was placed on IR on Wednesday. Cooks has virtually no shot at playing against the Bucs this weekend after suffering a mid-week concussion, meaning Ben Watson and Snead (if he can play) candidates for 10-plus targets. Especially after the loss of Ingram and (in all likelihood) Cooks, Tampa Bay is looking like a solid streaming D/ST option this week.

Injury Mark Ingram placed on IR
Shoulder injury
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Dec 9, 5:00 pm

New Orleans
New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram has been placed on injured reserve. Ingram reportedly injured his shoulder, and was not present during the portion of practice open to the media on Wednesday. He was officially placed on IR Wednesday afternoon. (NOLA.com)

FFToday's Take: The Saints worst fears were confirmed after tests on Mark Ingram's shoulder this afternoon. This marks the third straight season that Ingram has failed to stay healthy. The door is wide open for C.J. Spiller to become the lead back a what will probably become a RBBC with Tim Hightower also factoring into the mix. Both running backs are worth picking up with Spiller getting more value in PPR formats.

Injury Mark Ingram dealing with serious shoulder issue?
Could be season-ending
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Dec 9, 1:29 pm

New Orleans
I'm told Saints RB Mark Ingram is dealing with a serious shoulder injury. There is some fear it could be season ending. (Rand Getlin on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: If true, this would be another huge blow to the fantasy running back position as Ingram has been a top five performer on the season. Tim Hightower and C.J. Spiller are next up on the depth chart. It's difficult to imagine either one taking on Ingram's full workload. Some form of RBBC would likely take place.
